Reviews for Dr. Roger P. Thorne
The very best. Helped my sciatica immensely Thru Therapy. Great Dr.
Dr Thorne is an excellent careful meticulous surgeon who actually listens and remembers his patients. He is so kind and loving too. He reminds me of my grandfather. I feel like he cares for all of his patient as if we are his family and he only wants the very very best for us. It will be a sad day when he retires.
The Best Spine Surgeon scale 1 to 10 he is a 100.
Excellent surgeon. I have nothing else positive to say. Lacking in people skills and follow up with after surgery care
Doctor Roger Thorne redid a spinal fusion at L5 S1 in 2015 after 12 months of considerable pain from the 1st surgery. He told me the reason I was in pain was that I did not have a solid fusion and that I would continue to be in pain until I did fuse. He told me "I was a patient that nobody wanted." That once you had a failed back surgery the likelihood of having a second failed surgery was high. That made me feel very diminished and like he did not want me as a patient. I asked if he would do the surgery and he agreed to somewhat begrudgingly. After the surgery he came to my hospital room and told me that my back was extremely unstable when he went in. He said that he inserted a cage and larger screws and that he was confident that would fix my problem. I would go back for visits xrays and MRI scans every month that then got extended to every 3 months for a year. My pain did not improve. I am only able to be active for 4 to 6 hours a day. When I would go to my appointments he seemed to be angry with me. As if I was lying about my pain pain. He seemed adamant that my surgery was successful. When I would demand or ask that why am I still an extreme pain then he would do another X-ray and acknowledge that I did not have a solid fusion yet. I am not saying that he is a bad surgeon. Maybe nobody can fix my back. I am saying that he did not have a good bedside manner. He left me feeling like I was crazy and that I was annoying him. In the end he just suggested I go to pain management. Same as the previous surgeon. I have seen 2 surgeons since then. One said that because of my osteoporosis he never would have done the surgery on me in the 1st place. Neither surgeon tested me for osteoporosis prior surgery. It is 6 years later and I still live with agonizing pain even with pain management. It is embarrassing to go to public events or even short shopping trips because I cannot stand or sit for a very long. I wish I had never had surgery. Dr Thorne did a Laminectomy on me in 2008 at the L-3 level. After the surgery I still had pain. after about 3 months he ordered another M.R.I. The M.R.I. looked just like the first one I got BEFORE the surgery. I had to move up to Washington for a short time. I saw a Spine Doctor Jens Chapmen. One of the finest in the Country. As soon as he saw the MRI he did not hesitate to say ( THAT'S GOT TO COME OUT OF THERE. )Dr Thorne was telling me that what I was seeing was the area that he had removed the substance that was causing my pain! I changed Drs when I moved back to San Diego. Dr James Bruffey has done several surgeries due to a bad Accident. HE's GREAT!!!!! Dr Thorne did a Laminectomy on me in 2008 at the L-3 level. Clear and professional explaining the diagnosis, already feeling better, besides the prescription, emotional Thankyou Dr. Thorne
One year ago today, I had an operation on my back at Scripps Green, with Dr.Roger Thorne and Dr.Christopher Uchiyama as the surgeons. I had broken my back in a car accident six months before. I had the surgery scheduled in August but it was postponed, due to some complications. I will never forget when I took my first step after surgery, I had no pain. I will always be grateful for a second chance of life. Thank Dr. Thorne.???????????????????? A true humanitarian - one of the vanishing "family doctors" who just happens to be a great surgeon.
Performed Back surgey on my old and almost unable to walk Back. He warned me it would a long haul to recovery which it was. But I have never been painless like this in over 40 years. He has given me my life back. If your having back problems this Is the Doc. to see

This doctor has caused me an immeasurable amount of suffering. I went in for a simple herniated disc. I woke up out of surgery in horrific pain. The pain was so much worse then prior to surgery. I thought he must of left a tool in my back. He told me he had to move my sciatic nerve and it didn't "bounce" back after surgery. He said it would eventually calm down. It has been six years and six months. The pain radiating down my leg is horrific. Don't take a chance with him.

Dr. Thorne is the absolute best orthopedic surgeon ever! He has great bed side manners and easy to communicate with better yet he is the head of the orthopedic torey pines division. I had an ALIF recently, recovery for the first 2 months was very difficult but his nurse Carrie and Dr thorne himself reassured me that it does take 1 full year to completely recover. As a working mom and health care professional I had to adjust and learn to be patient. It's major surgery. Dr. Thorne team is amazing!
