The office staff is always changing- I have always been curious why. Dr. Van Andel is self-described at being horrible with following up. I have experienced this after many phone calls to his office. His bed side manner has gone down hill this year. I have gone in for 2 major problems and walked away with no help.

i had to switch doctors because of my insurance. i had been seeing the same doctor since i was 9, so for about 20 years. i was hesitant, but dr. van andel was good. his nurse was great, but the office girl is totally heinous. probably not the best choice for geriatric care as he is pretty young, but spent good time in the room explaining what the issue was and brought a laptop with him for reference. nurse was really nice and caring. office girl was rude and snotty and thinks she knows everything. she wears really strong perfume and has no sense of humor. avoid prolonged contact with her. i gave her two stars only because the nurse almost made up for her.

went for annual physical. am 49 yrs old. he weighed me and palpated my belly. told me that he needed urine test for one of my meds and said ' people sell these things all the time so we need to make sure yoiu are taking them'. no other tests of any kind. less than 10 minutes of face time and billed my insurance for $485. Follow-up visit (for refills on meds) same- less than five minutes, no exam, $485 billed to insurance.
