Dr Ockey was terrific. Obviously top of the field in knowledge and experience. He is also very personable and friendly. He was very thorough in taking my personal history and really caring to be sure he understood about me. His background, skills and knowledge are impressive. I highly recommend him.

Wonderful doctor's who listen to their patients and work to find solutions. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.

I have been lied to numerous times by people at this clinic! If you have chronic pain DON'T GO HERE all they care about is the money they can get out of you and how quickly they can change you from meds that work to meds That are just as addictive but not proven on my pain. They promised me they would not do this to me! I jumped through all their hoops, went to physical therapy, their psychologist sat through the opioid class so they could lie to me some more! I am so afraid to go back !

Dr. Robin Ockey is one of the finest doctors I have ever had. He's friendly, caring and very thorough. He also allows me time to explain my progress (or lack thereof) and to discuss any new health situations that have occurred since my last visit with him. Dr. Ockey also trusts me to co-partner with him in making decisions regarding dosage and the usage of various pain medications. I completely trust his advice, and I appreciate that he appears to trust me. I am so grateful I found him!

This was the worst doctor's office I have EVER been to. I guess if you are not in pain, want to spend a lot of money, and deal with incompetent doctors and staff... This is your place. I have had chronic migraines for 4 years. I have been to countless doctors and specialists. The staff and doctors didn't listen to me or let me talk (they kept interrupting). Professional in-office treatment focusing on physical therapy first - which has been very helpful. I've recommended this practice to friends and family for help in addressing pain issues - largely back issues.

I was a patient at Dr. Ockey's office from 10/07 to 5/14 (I actually started seeing him when he was at Nexus Pain since 7/07) I've since moved to NC. You can't find a better office of caring people than those at UVPM! Here in NC, I had to deal with appts that took 4-6 hrs, usually closer to 6 hrs, no joke! I've been in NC for over 2 yrs and still trying to get the care I need. I miss the entire staff, including Dr. Chesley, Jeff, the front desk, PT staff, MA's. Dr. Ockey earned my trust, which Dr. Cloyd or Dr. Chesley would tell you is not an easy feat. Dr. Ockey knows what he is doing, even when I didn't agree with him. I'd do anything to be able to go back as a patient! If you just want pills, then move along because pain management is so much more than popping pills. While they have to follow guidelines that the law requires them to follow in order to keep their license, they didn't treat me like a pill/drug seeker. Instead of resisting the knowledge they try to teach you, take the knowledge and do something to help yourself as well. You have to be an active part of the treatment team. Don't expect to go in for a refill and fix your pain. Whether you agree or not, the holistic treatment is for your benefit. It can take some time, but I indeed got my life back after being stuck in bed for a couple of yrs. I felt like me again. Since I've moved, not so much anymore..... Dr. Ockey really helped me manage my pain for nearly 10 years, until which time I was able to go off all pain meds. He has high expectations, and I wanted to please him because I felt he really cared about me as a person. Doctors have laws to follow, and there are very very few chances to make mistakes before, in order to keep their practice going, he will let you go. He's an excellent doctor with exceptional character!

So caring at first, until its too late to see someone new. They are obsessed with meeting quota by limiting meds to everyone. They make you feel like some kind of drug abuser for needing meds when your pain levels don't improve *for them* and you're forced to jump hoops every month to get help. My pain is not at all manageable. I wish I could give them my pain and watch how they dealt with it. They would definitely take more meds than they give me. Do yourself a favor & find a real clinic.

UVPM requires that you attend several appointments (a shared medical group appointment with 6-9 other patients to discuss the dangers of opioid medications, a computer test, a written test, a psych evaluation (with a "staff member, not a psychologist) and an evaluation with their PAC & Dr. to determine your situation before recommending a treatment plan. Be prepared to trade procedures for prescriptions. This is not the place you go to for medication administration. Adam West spent the majority of the time telling me that their physical therapist was the best, their procedures were the best, and that in his history of treating people, only a handful actually went on to have surgery. Adam told me that he was not a "salesman" but tried hard to sell me on painful, expensive, and unnecessary procedures. Adam discredited the treatment, procedures and therapies that I previously received and promoted UVPM at the place to "fix me" for good. I did not appreciate the arrogance. They treat you like a "pill seeker" or "doctor shopper". Be prepared to be scrutinized, even with a valid history of chronic pain. Be prepared to wait, wait wait ---- last 4 appointments they ran 30+ minutes behind. No respect for your time!
