I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Bergamaschi because the first hospital wasn't in my network. Lucky for me my insurance didn't work everywhere. My situation was urgent. I was in terrible pain. After all the scans and tests, Dr. Bergamaschi explained in various conversations, that I had a serious blockage in my lower colon. The tumor was growing and would have to be removed. I was pretty scared. He was patient and thorough. Dr. Bergamaschi outlined the possible outcomes and potential treatments. After 2 colonoscopies, and a tube down my nose for a couple of days, he went to work. He and his staff were attentive after surgery. I made an appointment in his office when I was released. There he explained the seriousness of the situation and his recommended course of action. He was very direct. Perhaps that is the best way to hear difficult news. That was 53 months ago... Early on, he did scold me for not getting a colonoscopy at age 50. He was right. I might have avoided this club membership. But, I am here and recovering. Much of that I owe to Dr. Bergamaschi.

I saw Bergamaschi in March of 2019 for what I thought were hemorrhoids. Of course, his own office staff gave him shining reviews, but I figured that if he worked at Westchester Medical, he was decent. This was not the case. Because I had forgotten to bring a failed hemorrhoidal banding report, he requested that I send it to him. I drove to Office Depot, made copies, and mailed it. Nobody dignified me with a reply. After several weeks, I telephoned the office, and they claimed never to have received the mail, which I think was BS since I knew the correct address. But there was a possibility I was mistaken, so I drove back to Office Depot, scanned the report, and emailed it to a receptionist. 5 minutes later, she called me stating that this great doctor had nothing to offer me. What a waste of time all of this was! He also refuses pain medicines after THD, (a painful surgery). (Another doc diagnosed me with fissures, which Bergamaschi missed). His bedside manner was awful too

I went to this provider when I was suffering with, what I believed to be hemorrhoids. What I did not realize was that I had fissure(s) at the same, which was why I was in severe pain. He hounded me for a failed hemorrhoidal banding report, did not perform a thorough exam, missed the fissures, and concluded that he had nothing to offer me. He also stated that he doesn't prescribe pain medication after colorectal surgery. Seeing him turned out to be a complete waste of time and his bedside manner was terrible. I should have heeded the negative ratings on here.

Words cannot even begin to express the terrible experience I had with this doctor. His admin is terribly incompetent and his medical and people skills need serious work. Not only did he fail to do a physical examination the first time I saw him, causing me to go a second time, but when he did exam me, he just told me to pull down my pants without giving me privacy and had me bend over. To top it off, he poked the opening to my fistula and said, "you have a fistula." I was dumbfounded because I already knew that - he was my second opinion and he knew that! Then he proceeded to tell me I didn't have a prior fistulotomy (my first one failed) which suggested my first surgeon committed fraud. After that appt, I was so confused and distressed that I had to go a third surgeon, who surprise, confirmed I did in fact have a prior surgery and did a thorough physical examination and suggested a course of treatment. Please AVOID!

I was a patient of Dr. Bergamasch in 2019. He was brought in by trauma surgeon to reverse a colostomy. From the first time I saw him, a 1 minute visit while I was hospitalized with an infection, he was fixated on my weight, sent me to bariatric surgeons who gave shots that got me hospitalized again. Despite my medical records AND a history of healing well from 4 previous abdominal surgeries, he still put me off over and over. I got 2nd & 3rd opinions from my PCP. Both of those doctors, well-respected at 2 top NYC hospitals, said surgery could proceed without issue. I chose between the 2, and scheduled surgery. (I'd been out of work waiting for this surgery since March. The trauma surgeon had said it was good to go in July) I had to get disability forms updated for work, and went to Bergamashi 3 days before my scheduled surgery. He said maybe 2 more months. Had surgery laparoscopically Thursday, home from hospital Friday, well-healed and going back to work. Bergamaschi is a blowhard.

I will always recommend Dr Bergamaschi. I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in November 2004. I saw him on a Friday and was operated on the following Tuesday. When I returned for my 3 months check up he found out that I had only had my first chemo the week before he was very upset. He had to operate the following Tuesday. I never went back to see that oncologist again. He would check on me by calling me even at work to check on me. It's now almost 13 years later no cancer. Thank you

I am a patient of Dr. Bergamaschi. I was recommended to him after being diagnosed with colorectal cancer, after a routine checkup. It was the choice that saved my life. I was operated on by Dr. B with the Di Vinci robotic device. I am now 6.5 years cancer free. Dr. B is so knowledgeable about colorectal cancer and explains any questions you might ever have. He has a great bedside manner. I would and have recommended him to anyone in need. He is my doctor and a friend for life. Mike Killarney

Dr Bergamaschi is thorough, professional and compassionate. He takes the time to explain and answer all questions. My surgery went well and the post operative period has been steady improvement. IN addition to his abilities his staff is professional courteous and gets the job done in a timely manner. Overall I wish I did not need surgery but glad I put my health in Dr. Bergamaschi's hands. Thank you!

Dr. Bergamaschi failed to provide the expected level of care for my grandfather when he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2013. His team approach did not include an oncologist, nor did his office make any effort to ensure my grandfather received the proper follow on care after his first surgery to remove tumors. Dr. Bergamaschi allowed his ego to supersede the care of his patient, and as result did not refer my grandfather for chemo or radiation since he claimed he had got all of it.
