Dr. Robert W Thompson

After my second thoracic outlet surgery was failed, I called Dr. Thompson’s office, praying. Since he was “colleagues” we my prior surgeon (from a different state) and probably didn’t want to step on their toes, I was told I needed to be released from their care. Prior doctors office was confused with the request but did that. Once that was done I was told it was a $500 consultation fee that insurance doesn’t cover. Your front office is rude. At the time of my surgery his staff was a joke, unorganized and never got back to us. We had to call over 12 times to get a response to the first call after surgery. Dr. Thompson is mild mannered and makes you feel at ease. Just don't make him mad and tell him his team or he did something wrong. He does not hold them accountable, and it is his way or the highway... if you are his patient. I am 20 times more in pain now then when he did the surgery. He charged me $600 to wiggle my finger that I already knew was broken. Made me do an X-ray, which I already had and showed him. Then he did nothing to fix my finger. But $600 got sent to collections and ruined my credit. Robert Thompson is no good! I don’t recommend him, unless you want to be screwed over.

Dr. Thompson is a very skilled surgeon! He is the best choice for TOS treatment.

So far I've had wonderful response time from nurse and scheduling, once they received my tests and information. Can't wait to finally get help after 7 years of worsening pain!

We love Dr. Robert Thompson and his staff. My husband had Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome on his right side and Neurogenic Thoracic Outlet Syndrome on his left side. Dr. Thompson has went above and beyond at each visit. Him and his staff are more like family now, as many times as we've been there. If Dr Thompson office assistant is reading this pick up the phone you probably have patients who are trying to get a hold of you who need help.

Office staff do not answer the phones or return calls in a timely manner. If you call in to cancel, they don't tell you it has to be two weeks for surgery or they threaten to drop you and are really rude about it. God forbid you call with car trouble, you try to call and they still don't answer and talk down to you like a child and "wash their hands" of you. Very poor bedside manner, not friendly. Medical staff not "assigned" to you will ignore you if you try to ask a simple question. I would not recommend. Office staff do not answer the phones or return calls in a timely manner. There is no one else in the United States that I would entrust to do TOS surgery other than Dr. Thompson. His technique and surgical strategy for this condition are above all else. TOS is his focus and he works continuously to perfect his technique. The surgery itself is a very long recovery but Dr. Thompson will absolutely repair whatever TOS problem the patient is having. He did my surgery for neurogenic TOS and I feel so blessed for that.

I am a physician and my son who had surgery for a venous TOS will shortly be doing a neurosurgical residency. His arm, needless to say was his career. It would be impossible for me to say anything but PHENOMENAL for the whole experience with Dr. Thompson, his staff and Barnes Jewish. We traveled more than 1000 miles for his expertise. I read some of the negative reviews and I did not experience any of them. Great doc (down to earth). Great staff. Unfortunately insurance companies stink.

I went to Dr. Thompson for my vascular TOS. His surgery failed and afterwards he refused to help me. He told me there is nothing anyone can do and I just have to live with it. Seriously, what kind of doctor tells their patient that? His staff is completely rude and they never get back to you. I would not recommend going to him!

I recently had TOS Surgery with Dr. Thompson and team. I can't speak highly enough of him and his staff. They provided me with exceptional care and I would recommend anyone with TOS symptom to see him. While the wait may be long, it is definitely worth meeting with him and providing you with care. Kuddos to Dr. Thompson, Nurse Practitioner, Melissa, and his exceptional staff.

Dr. Thompson was thorough and explanatory. Staff was friendly and helpful. Although TOS surgery and venous bypass surgery is painful and the recovery can take months, you go in to it with your eyes open knowing that. He was able to "fix" me when no one else could.

My experience was horrible. After battling my insurance company and waiting over 6 months for an appointment while in severe pain. He nor his office ever followed up with me and the diagnostic testing I had. My appointment was 4 months ago, but I haven't heard anything back. I've called 12 times and either I leave a message or they act like they have no idea who I am and say they will get back to me. I had to take time off work and find a driver to see him 2 hours away.

Absolutely horrible it took 12 weeks for me to get an appointment and then I couldn’t even see Dr. Thompson he sent me to his partner who did not help me and also will not return my calls! I’m absolutely miserable and so lost! They were no help to me at all!

The whole experience was nothing but a circus. You’re told one thing and then they change their minds and say something else. If you have asthma, you should avoid him. He’ll send you to drs for clearance only to cancel altogether. Severe god complex. They think they’re the best, and while that may apply to their skill, it in no way applies to their personalities, honesty, respect, etc. overall, he’s a skilled doctor with rude and incompetent staff.

After 3 mos of trying to get a TOS consultation based on the recommendation of Mayo Clinic Dr.'s, Dr. Thompson and his administrative staff (after making a number of mistakes regarding records and administration), essentially turned me away by saying (1) There are TOS specialists you can see in TX where you live and (2) we did not receive a referral stating that you had TOS. Both claims/suggestions were wrong. Wish I had more characters to say more.
