Refused an abdominal CT that later showed a distended gallbladder, enlarged spleen, liver with hepatic steatosis, small pelvic bowel loops, ileus and enteritis stating it would “give me cancer” and he “couldn’t in good conscience do that to a 25 year olds ovaries”. Luckily I’m more than my ability to produce children with a man in the future and a single exposure to a CT is not cancer inducing. Perhaps his participation in a peer reviewed journal on why youth have stopped coming into the ED for mental health concerns should be questioned when he notates protected and unrelated MH dx as “chief complaints” on severe abdominal pain visits and denies necessary testing when it comes to women.
