I had every member see Dr Chuong at one time or another for serious Oral surgeries and specialized treatments. I continue to use Dr. Chuong when I need someone who has excellent experience and has good outcomes. Now I have new family members going to see him because over the past 20 years he has always proven to be highly successful and a trusted healthcare provider.

Great experience with Dr Chuong and easy to talk to. I broke my orbital floor bone and Dr choung was so easy to work with and even saw me same day when I had any follow up questions at all. Would absolutely recommend. All the staff at Bayfront were talking about him in praise during my pre-operation for surgery.

Dr. Chuong created my night guard perfectly. He made certain it fit properly and made numerous adjustments until it did. He is a very interesting and knowledgeable person who I enjoyed talking with. Hopefully, I won't need any invasive dental work in the future, however, if need be, Dr. Chuong will be my choice to perform it.

Called office to make appt. for my developmentally delayed daughter who had fell flat on her face while having a seizure and did damage to her front teeth and I was given an appt. date of Jan 4th. I changed her Insurances in Jan. from Liberty dental through Humana Medicaid to United Dual Complete due to the fact that I could not find a Medical Primary care doctor in my area to take her Insurance. I checked the United dual complete web site before switching and Dr. Chuong was in network under the DENTAL PLAN for United Dual complete. I was then told by "the claimed to be office manager " that they only see patients with Medical issues with her new insurance and that I should not have changed my insurance! For one thing I would think that facial trauma would be a Medical issue and for another how can the provider be listed under DENTAL PROVIDERS and not see a patient for dental issues. And why would they see patients for Dental issues with one insurance and not with another insurance when he is listed as PARTICIPATING WITH BOTH INS. COMPANIES. Should the office be able to pick and choose who they see if they are listed as Participating with both plans? Makes no sense to me and it feels like something else is going on here. The front desk did not show any Apathy for my daughters situation and her demeanor was very unpleasant and all she wanted to do was cancel my appt. I would have loved to just have gotten a consultation with the provider as my daughter can not express herself well and may have underlying problems with teeth/gums/jaw that I'm unaware of.

I can not fathom how one dentist office can screw up so many things concerning my attempt at getting a night guard to prevent my teeth grinding. My regular dentist recommended him for this and I call in the fall of 2021 to get an appointment and he was booked up for about 6 weeks which wasn't a problem, but a few days before the appointment I was contacted to confirm my SURGICAL APPOINTMENT. I tried to explain that I had made the appointment in order to get a guard, and was told that I had to reschedule as the timing for the consult wasn't correct. Again I had to wait about 6 weeks. When I arrived for my appointment expecting for him to begin the process, I was told that no, that this appointment was to evaluated whether or not I really needed a guard (despite my dentist writing a referral) and the only result of that was the confirmation and being told the next step was to get pre-authorization from my insurance company. Once that was achieved then I would be contacted to make an appointment. That was in January. It is now March. I called them questioning why I hadn't heard from them and was told an obviously blanket response that "Sometimes these things took time as much as three months". She couldn't check on the status as that "was a different girl" but took a message for her to call me. On a hunch I called my insurance company and they told me Dr. Chung and never made any authorization to them. At this point I am so disgusted as their lack of professionalism that I am going to have to start all over with this process. It has been close to 6 months since I first made an appointment and I am out my co pay but enough is enough. *****This review prompted Dr. Chuong's office to contact me to offer to make things better. They asked me to come in right away in order to take the molds. I was pleased and hoped that this would be the start of things finally getting onto a more normal path, so I made the appointment. This, unfortunately, was not to be the case, and although I did receive my night guard, I continued to experience frustrating circumstances and even rudeness during both of my visits, and so must still stand by my original review. Dr Chuong's response to this review (We have since resolved the insurance problem and hope you are doing well with the night guard.) is also a testament to how things are unlikely to change since he appears to be clueless with the difficulties in his own office. The issue was never with an insurance problem. It was, however, with the person who was responsible for working with patient's insurance never submitted the forms for me. I can not fathom how one dentist office can screw up so many things concerning my attempt at getting a night guard to prevent my teeth grinding. After two other TMJ doctor visits that could not help me at all, I traveled from NW Tampa to St. Pete to see Dr. Choung. I was so impressed with Dr. Choung's knowledge. He explained fully what my problem was, pointing out everything from the X-rays. He was very patient with me, answered all my questions and explained his plan of action with my jaw problem. He was very calm and professional but most of all KNOWLEDGEABLE! And that's why I'll be making the trip to St. Pete again to have Dr. Choung help me with my jaw problem. I went to Dr. Robert Chuong for a new mouthguard. I called first and was told they charged $2100 but when she heard I had Medicare and a secondary insurance, I was told he participated in both and it would cost me only a small copay. He charged insurance almost $5500 and my small copay ended up being over $280! Every time I came back for an adjustment (3 times) he would go to a workstation where I could not see what he was doing, and when I put it in my mouth again it still hurt. And I was charged. When I questioned it I was told I was being charged for an office visit (and his expertise) and that the adjustment was free! However twice I was charged: Training in use of Orthotics (supports, Braces or Spiints) for Arms, legs $88 The appliance causes me pain and Dr. Chuong was not able to fix it to fit comfortably so it sits in a drawer. Oh, and the doctor’s solution to the ill fitting appliance was surgery! When I was asked to pay my first copay of $158 I asked for a bill since I was so surprised at the amount and was told they did not “do that”. I had to go on the website for my insurance where I found I was being billed “out of network”. When I asked for copies of forms I signed I was told they’re kept elsewhere and it’s too hard to get to them. When I finally got one of the forms there were things checked that I did not check. I know because I am left handed and make my checks differently than the ones on the form. Ten days ago I came back from vacation to find a letter from a collection agency. Dr Chong had sent me to collection for $78.26. I was outraged. I called and when I said I had not received any bills I was told by Ashley that I had been sent 5 bills. She also commented “And you reported us to insurance”. I did not receive any bills. I can understand one bill being lost in the mail but 5 is a lie. And it’s a coincidence that the collection letter arrived the same day the letter from the insurance company came telling me that the doctor had not been participating when I began as a patient. Definitely vengeance on their part! When I complained that the “small copay” was over $280 I was told that “you’re lucky since most people pay a lot more”. I was transferred to billing where I left a message and still have not received a return call. And the staff did not wear masks. This was during the height of Covid. And no one wore a name badge so who you were talking to was a mystery.

If Dr. Chuong were to be awarded a medal for his expertise, genuine concern for his patients, and ethics, it would be a gold medal. I was referred to this excellent surgeon to repair a jaw that was broken in two places from an accident. I was advised by Dr. Chuong that I might have the nerve affecting my smile permanently damaged in order to fully access and repair the fractures. Imagine my surprise and relief when I woke up in the recovery room to discover that he had found a way to work around the nerve. I retained my smile, and will be eternally grateful. Thank you so much, Dr. Chuong!

In my 57 years it was possibly the worst experience from start to finish. (Exception - Dr Wong). If you wish to be treated like a number or commodity this is the right facility. Top reason for negative review, Staff. Initial appointment was disaster. I brought my better half as a 2nd ear as this was a 2nd opinion. Not one individual out of (4) introduced themselves, said hello, you are, I am (including Dr Chuong! makes 5). They kept asking repeated questions from the initial questionnaire (all 5). I finally had to stop them and say 'can we start over..im _ and you are _ ?' When they did engage it was with an edge an attitude. They asked questions but weren't really interested in listening, moreover did not take any notice of previous consult from 1st surgeon (as this was my 2nd to confirm). I left asking did we really just experience this. Subsequent follow-up appointments yielded exactly the same even when I agreed with the direction to be taken and an appliance/split was made. There office only saving grace , Dr Wong. Expertly made, thorough in fitting and explanation. Staff sniping with one another about patients can be overheard both from waiting room and telephone. Agreed a price above insurance for my splint which included 3 follow-up appts after mould. Last appointment was last straw. Front desk attempting to collect co-pay when I paid in full. Rude..no hello at sign in .. just i need to collect your co-pay. When I advised no co-pay ..indignant. Later next assistant documenting papers again highlighted co-pay on form after final fitting. I said again no co-pay...ignored.. was told to stand at checkout while another on the phone .. finally i turned paper around and said no co-pay today .. she snatches form and said 'yes you made that quite clear' . Its truly a shame as Dr Wong was terrific, but the experience with the office staff and Dr Chuong is a turnoff. In my 57 years it was possibly the worst experience from start to finish. The doctor is good but the receptionists(st.Pete location) are unprofessional, rude and they don’t listen to the patient. I really had a very bad experience with them. It’s so sad because one bad apple spoils the bunch. This is my reply to the doctor’s response that I wish I didn’t have to post have they given me the chance to listen to me: Why would I get upset if your office is no longer taking my insurance! I was on the phone with a receptionist and she hung up on me. When I called back the other person is saying she didn’t so I would advice hearing from both sides to understand the whole story! I was told you aren’t taking my insurance as of next month and I said I’m interested in doing the MRI and seeing the doctor even if I go to the st. Pete location since I only can go to trinity next month. I made an appointment for an MRI I got my daughter’s braces taking off the day before. The day of the appointment I get a call from the MRI center that they have to cancel because there’s no authorization! After speaking for a long time with the insurance they said the doctor needs to authorize it. When I called your office they said they can’t because the doctor won’t be able to see the results I told them no I want the doctor to see it and I want to come to the st. Pete office. They said there’s no appointments. I wish someone had contacted me when you got the request for authorization that you aren’t approving it before I went through all this!! I got mad for how unprofessional the girls on the phone were talking to me when I was explaining to the first one she interrupted me saying (mam I wasn’t in the scenario) and then she’s telling me change your insurance when I asked her for her name she hung up on me. Then I called back and they denied that. I have 3 kids my oldest is 21. I’ve dealt with different practices for my kids, myself, and my mom who had so many health issues and this is the first time I leave a negative review. For me to reach to the point that I am going back and forth with a review that only proves how inappropriate your staff are. If my rating was unfair and inappropriate the treatment I got was unfair and inappropriate. The doctor is good but the receptionists(st.Pete location) are unprofessional, rude and they don’t listen to the patient. I really had a very bad experience with them. Dr Chuong is a great doctor! He is conservative, conscientious, and explains his treatment plans in "laymen's terms" so you clearly understand. His staff is always professional and helpful. Even though my insurance didn't cover my treatments they did work hard to try to get coverage (insurance companies are always to blame for this, not the doctors!!!) He took out my husband's wisdom teeth with no incident and I have referred many friends and family to his care. Dr. Chuong’s office staff is an absolute joke and flat out lied to me on multiple occasions. Avoid if at all possible. The lack of professionalism by the front office staff and complete disregard for patients time or pain was absolutely absurd. When I went in for my consult, I was finally seen by the doctor 2 hours after my scheduled time. After the consult I spent 4 months working to get insurance approval and even switch insurances in the middle. After first denial, I was asked to find medical articles and give proof that the surgery was necessary. As an oral surgeon, Shouldn’t that be their job? Then once switching insurances being told my surgery was denied again and spending hours on with insurance to find out they didn’t even submit an approval request. Majority of the time with them was chasing them down to do their jobs or get answers. When contacting them about it I was again lied to then requested to come in for an additional consult to discuss next steps since insurance wouldn’t pay when my insurance was telling me it would be approved same day if the request was submitted. Within 72 hours of seeing a different oral surgeon, I had been approved for surgery and had to do minimal work to get approval. The other surgeon even had multiple medical articles to provide to insurance and discussed the latest in TMJ field. Seriously don’t waste your time with this place, it’s not worth the amount of misery and frustration. Dr. Chuong’s office staff is an absolute joke and flat out lied to me on multiple occasions. I guess it's hard to rate because he couldn't help me due to my Insurance. He was nice about it but for me it was a huge waste of time and money to get home and copay. They want $200+ for one extraction with my ..let's put them on blast Humana Insurance. Who told me it would be general surgery to get all the work I needed done and that it would all be covered, sigh. The assistant was pleasant. Had no trouble with the staff, however he was late getting to me by about 30 minutes. So summary, Doctor ran late, staff was nice in general, but pricey if you do not have great dental insurance. Also..they really need a sign on the actual door lol..I did not notice the numbers up top my first time around the building. I was hit by a drunk driver doing 85 mph in Houston (5th DUI, no license, no insurance & a borrowed truck from a buddy who also had no auto insurance...) as I was leaving my corporate office & on my way to catch my flight home to St. Petersburg. Unbeknownst to me, after the person sitting in the backseat of our vehicle (NOT buckled in) hit the headrest at the base of my skull, she & the drunk driver, managed to cause me SEVERE TMJ problems. I was extremely fortunate that Dr. Chuong was a physician listed on my insurance as my company & I ended up going our separate ways due to the excruciating pain involved traveling, carrying my laptop & belongings from airport to hotel to manage 47 clinics. The company made me file a W/C claim in order to cover their expenses. Fortunately once again, Dr. Chuong willingly accepted this claim as well! Long story short, it took over 18 MONTHS for the COURTS TO ORDER MY FORMER COMPANY TO AUTHORIZE & PAY FOR MY TMJ SURGERY!! Dr. Chuong had to perform 2 discectomies. One on EACH SIDE OF MY JAW, as the discs were totally SHREDDED ON BOTH SIDES. He fought the insurance company's claims that it was just me "faking it" & gave depositions on my behalf. Dr. Chuong actually GAVE ME MY LIFE BACK!! I thought I was going to be on disability for life when all I wanted was to be able to function & go back to work to do the job I love. I see where people are writing negative reviews about his office & him...I CAN SAY THAT FOR OVER 20 YEARS, NEITHER DR. CHUONG NOR HIS STAFF have been anything less than professional, honest, caring & most of all always dependent whenever I need to be seen!! Maybe they should re-evaluate their expectations & move them up! Dr. Chuong is the most talented maxillofacial surgeon in our area & I know I was blessed with a fair, honest & strong advocate on my very first visit & he & his staff have continued to be all of that & more for over the last 20 years!! I called on Monday about wisdom tooth pain, and the wonderful dental assistant Christina scheduled me to get them pulled the next day. There was a few issues with my insurance, which Christina took the time to personally resolve so I could have the procedure done as soon as possible for a reasonable price. Most unprofessional doctor I have ever been to. I went to him for bad TMJ when he asked me to open my mouth I did, then he said no really open your mouth. I said that is as far as I can open it. And he ROLLED HIS EYES at me! The whole reason I went to see him was for TMJ so bad that I cannot eat a sandwich because my mouth will not open wide enough. On top of that he did an xray and said my issue was not the same thing he does surgery on so he would not be able to help me. (really he had not further knowledge on how to help TMJ than the ONE thing he does surgery on?!) Then offered to make me a couple thousand dollar mouth guard for the clinching I get at night. I told him I already use an over the counter mouth guard and asked if it would be any better than the ten dollar ones I use. He never answered me. So I said I did not want it. Then the ladies up at the desk scheduled me to get the guard fitting with out discussing it with me, and I had already told the doctor I did not want it. I was a cash client and cannot justify spending thousands on a mouth guard that is no better than the ten dollar one I get at walgreens. THEN I GOT MY BILL! For one visit with an x-ray and absolutely no insight on what to do about my lack of ability to open my mouth he charged me $1,940.00!!!! When I went to a regular dentist they did a full exam and xray (but could not do the cleaning due to me not being able to open my mouth enough) and it only cost a little over a hundred bucks. After being treated with disrespect and having something I didn't want forced on me it makes me so sick that he wants to charge me this much money! I don't know who he is nice too but I would not send my worst enemy to see this completely UNprofessional UNknowledgeable UNcaring person in a white coat. The nurse that goes over the questions and assists him was nice and even pardoned his behavior when he left the room. Most unprofessional doctor I have ever been to. If you’re going to this doctor for a surgery more complicated than pulling a tooth you’ll be disappointed. Had double jaw surgery performed by this surgeon, was checked days after and told my bite shifted more than expected and another surgery was needed almost immediately after. He told me this was an EXTREMELY rare occurrence but there were two other patients of his I spoke to in the hospital the day of surgery who informed our family this was also their second surgery in an attempt to fix what the first surgery was supposed to resolve. Same as me. 0/3 is 0% if my math is correct. Doesn’t sound rare to me. Extremely unpersonable to boot! Nice Doctor but RUDE HORRIBLE STAFF. I visited Dr. Chuong because of rave reviews from friends. I have severe TMJ and he said he could help me and needed me to get some tests done. My insurance would not cover immediately but needed more information. I went back again to see if there was other things to do and again denied. I was upset that it was denied and and she said CALM DOWN OR I AM HANGING UP! All I said was, "OMG Why was it denied?" Then every time I spoke she said "ARE YOU DONE YET?" ). She was supposed to check. Nothing happened. A month Later I called the insurance company and they said, it was just denied because we need more info. The doctor was outstanding I had a tooth removed I didn’t feel a thing it healed great. However the front desk is out of control the worst service I have ever seen rude beyond reason. They where calling practically begging me to come and have more work done then a whole year after having my wisdom tooth removed I get a call saying I owe $30 for a return check and when I told the lady I need a statement because my records show I paid $85 dollars and I have proof my check cleared she became extremely rude and said she would send a letter and hung up the phone. I called back to speak with a manager or the doctor she refused to pass the call on and I was being polite on the phone but she starts responding to me as though I was being loud so that whoever is near her could think I was being rude. Whoever the front desk girl is,she has a mental health issue because you should know it’s the guest on the phone that is paying your salary. If there are no guest there will be no need for any staff. I have read all of the complaints and it has been said on more than one time the the desk is Rude! Doctor Chung there is no other way to tell you what’s going on other than making this post ????????‍♀️I really feel that you are super amazing and I would have love to continue doing business with you and I even told the girl at the desk if I owe you any money like $30 dollars is no reason to leave a doctor I would have hand delivered it just so I could tell you how terrible your desk is. You deserve better they are going to destroy your business because they are not at all a representation of who you are.
