We as a family have been going here for years. Always been treated professionally. Friendly staff, well run office.

They were very efficient, very thorough in the way they did their job. I was impressed, hats off to the team that was working there the day I came in for an exam.

Dr. Allen is by far the best ophthalmologist I have ever been to.

I had a long wait after the pre-exam with the technician (tonometry test, etc) and the eye doctor. The pre-exam room was not like anything I have seen before. The machines are on rectangular table and you have to scooch from one machine to the next in an office chair. It seemed less sophisticated than what I have experienced in other offices. The waiting area feels dated - a large dusty centerpiece being a highlight. I think having nothing would be an improvement to that. My eye doctor seemed knowledgeable and was very polite. The problem I have with my exam is that it wasn’t until the end that I realized that the haziness I was seeing in some of the lenses during my exam was due to condensation from my breath because of the mask and the shield on the equipment. While I do not fault anyone for this, It would be good to alert people to this potential problem during the exam because it can interfere with the end result and accuracy of the prescription. After my examination, while I was waiting for my printed out prescription (which I had to ask for), I was browsing the selection of eyewear. No one acknowledged me or mentioned coming back in the future to pick out some new glasses. Since it was nearly closing time, maybe they didn’t want to start something they couldn’t finish. I get it , though the offering of info for the future, a pamphlet or acknowledgment of my presence would have been nice. Also, I think the young lady at the back counter could speak a little bit more clearly on the phone and in person - maybe drop the vocal fry. She sounds very unenthusiastic - almost like she’s annoyed. When reading over some of the reviews for this practice, there is mention of the friendliness of the staff. I don’t need friendly when going to any medical office, I want professionalism & thoroughness. I want to be sitting in a space that looks clean and orderly. Professional, kind and thorough!

I had a very pleasant examination of my eyes. It all happened quickly and thoroughly and was happy to find out everything was good. I have been a patient there for years and have always had great service and thats why I keep going back. They always adjust my glasses for me anytime that I bring them in.

My original review is missing from here. I too was over charged a co-pay and have been trying to get my money refunded for 3 months with many calls to my insurance company and poor response from this office. Still waiting for refund! When they saw my original one star review they actually offered me money to take it down!!

A friend referred me to Dr Allen and I am completely satisfied with the doctors there as well as the rest of the staff. They tried different kinds of contacs until I was 100% satisfied. I would definitely recommend this practice.

I’ve been going to Dr. Slavin and Dr. Joedicke for over 15 years, even after I moved out of the area I still come back every year. Their friendly and professional service is always on point. It’s like going to see old friends.

Dr. Allen is a wonderful optometrist and has been my eye doctor for many years and since his Ashburn office first opened. He is professional, friendly, and cares. I have been to both locations - mostly Chantilly - and wear contact lenses and glasses. My contacts are delivered to my house. My last pair of eyeglasses came from next door (co-located with Dr. Allen's practice) at Eye Street Optical in Chantilly. They have a great selection and professional help. The staff on both sides has always been very nice, and they are good at working with my insurance provider. Would recommend going here! Updated May 10, 2018 simply to say am still extremely pleased with the service, time, and attention given by Dr. Allen and his staff, as well as the adjacent optical center. Highly recommend. Update: Still highly recommend Dr. Allen's practice. I was having a little trouble with the fit of my eyeglasses (love them). I mentioned to Dr. Allen, and he has someone from the optical practice adjust them for me. They took out the lenses, molded the frame to fit my face, and put the lenses back in. I have been having trouble with my eyeglass prescriptions as my eyes are rapidly changing due to my aging. Dr. Allen had given me a script only 3 or 4 months ago and it was already outdated. I recently had that script filled and the glass lenses had to be readjusted. Knowing that my insurance would not cover new lenses within the current coverage period, Dr. Allen had them made over at no cost to me. That is a HUGE STATEMENT TO ME as his care and concern for his patients who are aging. First of all they messed up with my insurance, which made me paid $77 that I shouldn't had paid. They did not even want to help me use my VSP but insisted to use my health insurance, in that way, they could charge me more. And the second time they completely mis calculate my benefit and made me paid $60 which I shouldn't had paid neither. This time we found out something fishy. So we called our insurance company, explaining the entire visit experience and the invoice. Apparently my insurance covers everything I had spent there. Do NOT trust other reviews here. I went to this office for eye exam. I got my prescription and purchased glasses. But it was totally off. I called the office and reception lady told me there's nothing wrong with their prescription. I insisted to see the doctor again, and it turned out the prescription was totally wrong. Doctor admitted it's their mistake but NEVER said sorry. Then, I bought another pair of glasses after wasting hundreds of $$. But still they weren't comfortable. I called them again and asked if I can see another doctor and they said ok. A few days later, I was on my way to see another doctor. My exam was very thorough. Dr. J. is very professional and explains the tests as she was performing them. I left there knowing my eyes were thoroughly examined and I was well taken care of.
