About Richard M Wupperman
Reviews for Richard M Wupperman
Good Surgeon but has the maturity level of a 3 year old Back Fusion surgery with complications (was never made aware of beforehand) - Moving my leg "You should see the face you're making" while in agony - Telling him a concern i have... He put his fingers in his ears like a 3 year old... This one star review is a gift not only for Dr Wupperman to improve and learn from, but more importantly his patients to have a better experience with him
Dr Wupperman was able to diagnose my spinal column collaspe after the first visit with a 3-D MRI. I had been searching with other Drs. for 3 years with no success and was considering a spinal cord stimulation implant, when he said surgery would fix my problem. Thank God for Dr. Wupperman I am 100% better.
Successful neck surgery.
Since the onset of all my spinal issues, and there were many that needed critical attention, Dr. Wupperman has brilliantly, compassionately, and with absolute integrity, addressed every issue with terrific success!! From a life of constant, debilitating pain, I am now living free of pain and able to perform everything that I need to do including running 30 second agility courses with my dog. Yes, I have some limitations such as sitting or standing for long periods or lifting heavy weights, but taking the precautions advised by Dr. Wupperman such as lots of walking, careful core strengthening exercises, maintaining good posture, using proper body positioning to perform ordinary physical movements, changing body aspect (from sitting to standing to laying down as necessary) every 30 minutes, no jumping, and minimal running, I am able to live and function pain free! Dr. Wupperman has my absolute trust and highest recommendation!! I am forever grateful for him giving me my life back!
There is nothing bad I can say about my experience with this office and this group of professionals. Everyone is so kind and knowledgeable. Always ready to answer any questions and help out. Dr Wupperman was awesome, I’m so lucky I found him, my surgery was scary but he made sure to explain everything. I can’t say enough good things about the people in this group
This was my first visit and all went well. BEING ABLE TO FINALLY SEE MY mri'S WAS VERY HELPFUL FOR ME TO GET A VISUAL IDEA OF WHAT IS GOING ON DOWN MY SPINE THANK YOU
I have seen over a half a dozen orthopedic surgeons who would not operate on me because of my osteoporosis doctor Wupperman was willing to take on a difficult case I am looking forward to feeling better thank you Dr. Wupperman.
This is my second visit with him. I saw him a year ago and already liked him, but this visit sealed how much I like him. He answers my questions and he is not the type that pushes surgery on you. He said I did not have enough of a change to have to come every year, but I told him I would feel better if I did.
I am so thankful to have Dr. Wupperman's expertise and help! He was very informative and makes sure all my questions answered. Everyone at his office was super helpful and kind. I highly recommend this neurosurgeon and his staff!
Dr. Wupperman is a surgeon with a personality; a rare find in surgeons. He is an excellent surgeon who cares about his patients. He is the best. He is thorough, detailed, and readily answers any and all questions. You are in great hands with Dr. Wupperman. He also has the best PAs available. I just can’t say enough good things about Trae and Dr. Wupperman. Simply the best.
Educated and good work exclamation of issues.
Dr Wupperman and his team are hands down amazing! When it felt like all hope was lost, he didn’t give up and provided a road forward. I’m in recovery now from my lumbar fusion, but the care hasn’t ended. From easing my post op concerns to helping manage my pain, I couldn’t recommend Dr Wupperman more. Thank you thank you!!!
Dr Wupperman performed a lower lumbar fusion a long complicated surgery. He achieved great results in correcting my curved spine. I appreciate his caring manner. He has a sense of humor to put the patient at ease and then when it comes time to get serious he does it carefully and recognizes that the patient is nervous.
We had been to several neurologists for my mother's neuropathy and mylopathy, and we firmly believe he is going to be able to help her walk again (at least with the walker) instead of being wheelchair bound. He ordered a test (myelogram) that all of the other docs had brushed off at our suggestion. He was very easy to communicate with and he listened to all our concerns. He is the only one who actually laid hands in my mother's back and found all of the problem areas by actually examining her back. We have always believed that her sudden immobility issues were because something is compressed in her back- no other doctor has really wanted to investigate that issue except for Dr. Wupperman. I would highly recommend him and his wonderful staff to anyone who has an orthopedic issue.
Excellent doctor with great bedside manners, truly talented surgeon and a passion for what he does. He listens to you, explains everything, takes time to ease your fears and address your concerns.
Dr Wupperman is the best doctor I have ever had.He performed two major surgeries,(one thoracic and one lumbar) with no problems whatsoever. He has a great personality and bedside manner. The staff is great as well. Highly recommended!
Dr. Wupperman and his entire staff were excellent to work with. One of the nurses at my rheumatologist's office had lost the ability to walk and she was adamant about nothing being put in her back and someone she knew recommended Dr. Wupperman. She was absolutely thrilled with her surgical results; so I decided to see Dr. Wupperman to evaluate my lumbar spine and tell me what we might do that did not entail putting anything my body (I previously had rejection of hardware with a badly broken ankle). I am looking forward to my surgery and the relief I am sure it will provide to relieve the pain and profound weakness in both legs and the bowel and bladder problems my back problem is causing. I agreed to have Dr. Wupperman preform surgery on my back in the next couple of weeks because I found him to be a doctor who would "work with me" and not just insist on "working on me" like so many surgeons do.
Dr. Wupperman is the best doctor I have ever had. 2 successful major back surgeries with no problems whatsoever. He has a great bedside manner and is personally very likeable. The staff is great as well. I highly recommend him!
Dr. Wupperman was very kind and he didn't make me feel like he was in a rush to move on to the next patient. He made sure I understood everything he was saying to me without me feeling uneducated. I highly recommend him if you are having issues with your spine and I will not hesitate to refer my family and friends. Thank you so much for truly caring.
He changed my life. I was in pain all the time and couldn’t walk. After he operated on me I had no more pain and walked. He was very caring and thoroughly explained everything to me before and after the operation. I highly recommend him!
I’m a Veterinarian and started having back problems several years ago. Having to been over to get relief. Slowly it got worse. My legs went to sleep, I couldn’t stand very long, it was rather debilitating. After MRI and diagnosis of L4 and L5 severe problems and L3 and L4 moderate. I was very debilitated and my life was becoming nonfunctional. Dr. Wupperman was recommended to me by my cousin. He had had surgery by Dr. Wupperman with Excellent results and he had been recommended to Dr Wupperman by another Spinal Surgeon who felt that Dr. Wupperman was more qualified to do his surgery than himself. My surgery resulted in a fusion of L4 and L5 with a Laminectomy at L3-L4. 4 screws and rods for stabilization. Results were Excellent. Dr. Wupperman gave me my life back. I owe him my eternal Thanks and Gratitude. You can’t go wrong with Dr. Richard Wupperman.
Dr. Wupperman and his whole staff were wonderful. He was very professional and thorough with my exam and his explanation of my condition. I had a lot of questions and he answered them all. I was very pleased and feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Wupperman as my back condition is a very complicated one. I highly recommend him.
My mother saw Dr. Wupperman and she really appreciated the attention she received. She thought that he was thoughtful and considerate and caring. We were happy to get an appointment very quickly, considering she was a new patient. He is a top doctor in Austin, Texas according to Austin Monthly’s Top 100 Doctors. We see why!
I have been seeing Dr. Wupperman for 4yrs now. He is wonderful. Bedside manner excellent, surgical precision excellent,
Very knowledgeable, great personality, spends enough time with patient, great office staff
Dr. Wupperman performed a 61/2 back surgery on me on June 12, 2019. I was walking the next day and home on the second day. He told me to walk and I have. I have no back pain and am very happy with the surgery. Dr. W. was meticulous with everything he did. He was very professional and give me lots of information. His follow-up has been great. If you are having back problems. Go to Dr. W.
Dr. Wupperman has patiently guided me from being a bent-over scoliosis patient to a proud active senior, with two inches added to my height. In the process he gave me his time and attention, answered all my questions and put me at ease about the approaching surgery. Now, post surgery, I could not be more pleased. During the entire process he added his light, funny and refreshing humor, so that I always came away from his office with a chuckle and a smile, and not a sense a dread. If he agrees to be your surgeon, grab the opportunity to make the best of whatever difficult medical situation you may be in. He will be your partner toward an excellent outcome, and with grace and humor along the way.

Dr. Wupperman has been treating me for years. He has performed several spinal fusion surgeries on my degenerative spinal condition. I trust him 100% and he has given me my active life back. He is patient, honest and truly cares about his patients.
Professional, knowledgeable, courteous Doctor and staff. Confident that my back issues will be satisfactorily resolved.
Extremely knowledgeable, excellent staff, sympathetic
Dr. Wupperman and his staff provide superior care! They made a very stressful and difficult time seamless, and their compassion and caring were comforting. Dr. Wupperman is undoubtedly a skilled surgeon who took my unique and complex spine issues, and performed a complicated surgery to preserve not just my health but my quality of life for the long haul. He listens, he answers any and all questions, and sincerely cares. The have a system in place where you can request refills, request medical advice, email their office, and can access all your records is so convenient. The staff respond quickly and call if they need any clarification. I never wait more than 24 hours to get my needs taken care of. The practice also asks for feedback on an ongoing basis which tells me they are interested in making sure they are providing quality care that meets their patients needs. Dr. Wupperman is the best-skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate offering quality care and positive patient experience!
Simply, splendid. I went in to see him after a fall at home. My surgery was 13 months old. He did xrays right away and ordered another test to make sure if I was fine.
I had bounced around from physician to physician because of back pain for over six years. I had even been to two pain management doctors and they told me that I needed surgery. I was referred to Dr. Wupperman by a pain management doctor. After a few visits, we scheduled surgery, I spent twenty days in the hospital learning to walk again, but seven months from surgery, I am pain free and enjoying life. Personally, I can't thank Dr. Wupperman enough for helping me to enjoy life again.
I would like to say my surgery was suprisingly a good one . It was my first surgery an Dr Wupperman an staff made me feel very comfortable. The staff checked on me after surgery an when I called asking a question they were always prompt. I have several friends who had surgery with Dr Wupperman an they had nothing but great things to say about him they recommend me to Dr Wupperman an I’m glad they did , good doctor !!!
I chose Dr Wupperman because of his past experience as a physical therapist. A trained MD with the practical, hands-on background of a PT seemed like the perfect professional to consult about my back pain. I found him to be extremely thorough, knowledgeable, and caring. I ended up not needing medical treatment, but he referred me for therapy. Everyone in his office is friendly, caring and professional. Highly recommend.
Dr Wupperman performed a fusion and 4 discectomys on me 7 months ago. This guy is a master surgeon, I think he’s part magician too. He listens, he solves problems. I think the world of him and his PA Valerie Cavaso. Both of them are empathetic and know every aspect of the human spine.
Dr Wupperman is an excellent doctor. His “bedside manner “ is great. He is very knowledgeable and cares about his patients. He listens to you, exams you and discusses a plan. He’s friendly and easy to talk to, and a skillful surgeon. He’s the best!
This is my second major spinal surgery on two different levels with him, and am happy with both results. Highly recommend Dr. Wupperman.
I have already been recommending this practice. Dr. Wupperman is so very efficient, thorough, articulate and kind. He definitely does not “rush to surgery”. I value this enormously. He makes recommendations to other dr.s———I went to him after getting to know him through my S.O.’s very necessary spinal surgery. I have pain from a herniated disc and some other age-related spinal issues. He was very informative and sent recommendations to my pain management physician.
Dr. Wupperman is a great orthopedic surgeon. Highly recommend him if you need an orthopedic surgeon.
Dr Wupperman and his staff go out of their way to make me feel at ease with my back problems as well as explaining everything in everyday language. Another thing thing they do that nobody else seems to do these days, is check back up on you to see how you are doing.
Wish this was the first spine surgeon I had used I feel more confident in his performance and liked St. David's hospital.
Dr. Wupperman is very knowledgeable and personable. He takes his time with me as a patient making sure all of my questions and concerns are addressed. His staff is amazing and helpful. The front office is staff is welcoming and accommodating.
I have been to many doctors and Dr. Wupperman is the only one who actually listened to me and asked questions. He was optimistic and didn't look at me as an old overweight women who was probably imagining all my problems like other doctors have done. Even if he can't figure out my problem, I will have felt like he sincerely cares and will try.
Dr Wupperman, is one of the best Surgeons. He has fixed my issues, just to say that my issues are from my lower back all the way up to the top of my neck. I am now shall we say a walking robot. I was at a point where I was in a wheel chair. I was told by him that I would be walking again. And now I’m walking straight up. Thanks to this wonderful man. Me and my brother are patients. That should tell you something.
Dr Wupperman provided a level of detail I had not received by 6 other surgeons. He ordered additional testing, explained the Test (CT scan) showed me the areas of concern and provided the highest level of consideration I have received from any doctor in Austin. While he is not recommending surgery, he provided a detailed written plan of action to me and to the doctor he referred me to for treatment. His medical assistant was also very helpful and I only had to wait for a few minutes to see him.
I consider Dr Wupperman one of the best surgeons, if not the best, in town. Following a staph infection that destroyed my T9-S1 (pain pump site) and left me in a bad way. 4 surgeries by someone else to clean it it up left me without my lododic curve and hunch back. Dr. Wupperman fixed those issues and others to give me a good quality of life following such a horrendous situation. I would trust Dr. Wupperman with my life. I already have!
Overall good experience I was a new patient office visit from checkin to checkout was 30 minutes way faster than I expected. I was shown and discussed what was going on and treatment without feeling rushed. All the staff I encountered smiled and introduced themselves.
I would totally recommend Dr.Wuppermann to friends and others. Dr. Wuppermann has saved my life in so many ways through the years.
I am a 75 year old female. Five years ago Austin Spine was recommended to me. I met Dr Wupperman and he changed my life for the good. I had a crooked spine and five compressed discs. He fixed all these and I have been free of pain since October 2013.
My first visit with Dr. Wupperman was an intense exam during which he and his staff treated me with courtesy and respect. He was efficient and thorough. Everyone made me feel welcome and comfortable.
