I was referred to Dr Shapiro by my dermatologist when I was told I had melanoma several years ago and I was down at Dr. Shapiro’s office within 2 days for a consultation. He fit me into his schedule for surgery the next day which was a Friday night.. I was going to be his last patient and we didn’t get done til almost 11pm at night..he stayed with me to make sure I was ok and comfortable enough to go home..I thank him being such a great surgeon.. my scar is very minimal and my recovery was great... alot better than other surgeries I’ve had with other doctors.. I would highly recommend him to anyone.. if my melanoma returns I’m definitely going back to him . Dr. Shapiro is simply the best! I’ve dealt with skin cancer and doctors for many years and he is the guy you want when it matters. He is calm, confident and capable. He will give it to you straight, clearly laying out your options and his recommended course of action. Similarly, his assisting Drs, nurses and staff are first rate.

Dr. Shapiro is a top surgeon with exceptional skill and a wonderful/caring personality. I was lucky enough to find Dr. Shapiro from a friend who highly recommended him. In Oct 2020, Dr. Shapiro performed a double mastectomy due to the brca-2 gene mutation. I could not ask for a better surgeon. Dr. Shapiro answered all of my questions and made me incredibly comfortable. The surgery went great! I can honestly that Dr. Shapiro saved my life and I am forever gratefuI. Dr. Shapiro is a top surgeon with exceptional skill and a wonderful/caring personality. I was lucky enough to find Dr. Shapiro from a friend who highly recommended him. Dr. Shapiro operated on my face twice. He is a real magician. My friends, my PCP and even dermatologist could not believe it when they see his work. Dr. Shapiro is patient oriented and has a very pleasant personality. I am lucky I came to him.

I had a large tumor in my leg. I went around to all the top doctors and hospitals in NYC. Had 4 MRI’s. After careful evaluation of my choices, I picked Dr. Shapiro. My instincts are fine tuned and I do my research OCD level. His background is extremely strong. He trained other good surgeons. But the teacher is still the master in his case. He did my surgery fast. And did it in a better technique and way the others could not do or achieve. He has a sharp wit and humor. Don’t be thrown off by his strong presence. It is required to perform and excel at a top level for what he does. He is all business and his business is living and breathing surgery. Knows all the in and outs. Something that is needed to make calculated correct decisions before and during a surgery. And my incision was only a fraction of what others would have done. And he stitched me better than me plastic surgeon did on another matter. He also had a great surgery room staff. He controls it beginning to end. After my 2 years of stress...Dr. Shapiro took that away. He’s a genius and I am lucky I found him. If he wants to see you...I wouldn’t hesitate. It is probably unfortunate that this is the only good review I have written about a doctor. I had doctors in the past I couldn’t recommend for tragic reason. But it is what it is. All my reviews are truthful and accurate to help others. As I feel obligated, for we all need honest and real reviews before we make a decision. Thank you Dr. Shapiro for helping me. Excellent. Treated me in 2000

It all started with the day BEFORE my appointment. I got a phone call a day before the appointment telling me that they need the slides from my biopsy. My answer to them “why didn’t you send the request a month and. a half ago when I did make the appointment , and why didn’t you call me earlier so I could of physically went to get it” . The next day , the day of my appointment I’m on the train and the office called me saying “Dr Shapiro would like to reschedule your appointment because he wants the slides”, I told them I am not cancelling because I’m already on the train on my way to the NYC , and they called me an hour BEFORE my appointment!!! Everyone in the office was not pleasant or helpful. I understand my diagnosis wasn’t a stage 3 cancer, but cancer is cancer and scary no matter what stage it is. When I finally met him for a consult, he walked in to his office and with his arrogant voice said “so how I can I help you?!” I had my family with me and they all thought the same thing . He might be a successful doctor (he had many awards up on his wall) but his attitude definitely needs an adjustment! While he was examinating me he said “you cancer is boring”. When we left he told me to send over the biopsy slides. The office sent it to him , 5 days later (after calling and leaving messages to him) his office and himself still did not get back to me! Well obviously he doesn’t care! He is an arrogant person ! If you are looking for someone to make you feel comfortable he is definitely not the right person. A top notch surgeon......and a first rate person. You'd be lucky to have him be your doctor. No one like Dr. Shapiro.

Dr. Shapiro was recommended by my gyno when there was a breast abnormality. He was kind, he was thorough with a biopsy follow up. All turned out okay. His office is thorough especially Elizabeth. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Dr. Shapiro helped me through two melanoma operations, and in the second case my condition was quite severe. He was clear, kind, and positive. He's communicative and available. During my recovery he proved himself available day or night (provided he wasn't in surgery). The scars left behind are minimal. I think he's a fantastic surgeon and a very good man indeed. He is the best ! Been a patient since 2001. He has a gift!!!! I had something show up on a pet scan and called his office after not seeing him since 2013 the gave me an appointment for the next day which is unbelievable in its self. He just has a way of making you biggest fears go away ! Love him !!!!

This was the most efficient and kind medical experience I've ever had. Procedure was surgical removal of a large lipoma, and I cannot say enough positive things. Highlights: two office visits were on time, online account was set up in the NYU system allowing complete communication, Dr. Shipiro responded to online questions two times within a day, surgery appointment happened within a week of final office visit, surgery day on time and KIND, minimal scar, painless, EXCELLENT & warm nursing staff.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Shapiro. First, he was on time for my first appointment and my follow up appointment (after surgery) he was EARLY! Second, his "bed side manor" is amazing. He puts you immediately at ease from the moment you walk in. Even on day of surgery he kept me smiling. He is very thorough and speaks to you so you can fully understand your diagnosis and everything that will be happening during surgery. Procedure went great, healing nicely! TRULY THE BEST!!

I had melanoma on my face and my dermatologist recommended Dr. Shapiro as one of the two best plastic surgeons in NYC. Fortunately Dr. Shapiro accepted my insurance. He has really gold hands. My PCP, friends and relative who see me after the surgery all agree that he did an unimaginable job. In addition the office and personal is very nice and efficient and Post Op nurse Ellen Byrwe was above and beyond my expectation. I strongly recommend Dr. Shapiro and his staff for plastic surgery.

I highly recommend Dr. Shapiro to anyone who is going through breast cancer. He has great bed side manner and empathy. He gives thorough explanation of what test and:or exams he's doing and why. Then he tells you all of your options so that you can make an informed decision. He and Dr Nolan Karp (plastic surgeon) are the best tag team ever for my surgery.
