Dr. Richard Paul Marvel

I would give less than one star if I could. I made an appointment, but forgot about it due to my sister's death. Dr. Marvel still decided to charge me $50.00 for a no show fee. This was the first time I missed my appointment. Very uncaring and unsympathetic office. I guess he needs money. Never will I go again. I don't recommend him. He also did not resolve my issues.

I would highly recommend Dr. Marvel he and his staff are absolutely amazing. I had a complete hysterectomy 9/02/22 by Dr. Marvel, I had a few complications after surgery none of which were bc of anything he did, he followed my care even closer than I could’ve ever imagined, following that he gave me great care he was as worried and concerned as I was, he even told me to call anytime night or day he knew I live in Salisbury Md., from the time you walk in til you leave you feel cared about and well taken care of by him, Jess and his nurse they are an amazing group of people!! Dr. Marvel truly cares about his patients and doesn’t act like you’re asking to many questions he makes sure you understand the reason behind what he suggests for your care, he allows you to decide what’s best for you after he tells you what he thinks and doesn’t act like you’re not following his instructions bc you chose what’s best for you after the advise he gives you bc you know you’re body better than anyone. I honestly can’t say enough good things about him, his staff and his practice. I drive 2 hrs to see him and every minute of it is worth it to receive the care, kindness, compassion, and intelligence he and his staff provide, I’ve never felt uncomfortable or that any problem I have can’t be solved with Dr. Marvel and his amazing staff. Thank you Dr. Marvel and staff. I highly recommend you to everyone

Dr. Marvel was wonderful. Patient, kind, and compassionate - I have never had a better experience with a gynecologist.

The office staff was friendly, that was the only positive of my visit. Dr. Marvel gave me three treatment options for my on going pelvic pain based on a forceful and painful manual pelvic exam and then an ultrasound from another provider from over a year ago before my pain started. He prescribed me Orilissa for possible endometriosis with no new ultrasound or other tests. I began taking it and a week into it I felt awful and stopped. I was able to get into another OBGYN who did a new ultrasound and found that there was no endometriosis and I should discard any Orilissa given to me. Awful patient care and I will never return.

I will echo another patient's review: He saved my life. I have PNE, which is pain and burning constantly. This is a condition none of my other doctors even understand. Through a mixture of months finding drugs and topicals that worked and some basic changes in wardrobe and seating, 10 years later I am able to live with this condition. There’s nothing worse than an arrogant physician. He tried to act like he knew my body better than I did and kept interrupting me when I tried explain my symptoms... I’m a registered nurse and he tried to mansplain to me as if I was incompetent. Will not be returning!

I love Dr. Marvel. He was great from my first visit with him. He was recommended by my Uro/ Gynecologist (whom I very much trust). I was most impressed by how much time he spends with you. He is knowledgeable, and able to treat whatever condition you have. His staff has always been kind and helpful. He cares not only for your pelvic health, but mental health and wants you to have a good quality of life. I have started comparing all physicians to him ( which I shouldn't) but end up disappointed when I don't get the same level of care. Yes, he can be very technical with a mixture of reserved/ blunt. But you get used to this type of communication. I have even looked through microscopes with him at my cells, he gives me a full education every single time. I have never felt slighted either by payment chasing or long wait times or a non- sufficient time with the doctor or nurses. His office is clean, you don't see a lot of patients (meaning he is not double or triple booking slots). Everything runs smoothly, a patient is waiting when I am finished, and in a timely manner. I have also done one telemedicine visit since COVID, which was just fine for me. I have gotten better, but this is a mix of this doctor's help and my own lifestyle choices. Wondegul gyn. Spent a ton of time with me at each appt. Very personable, skilled, informed, up to date. So glad my PCM recommended him.

After my first visit, I was not impressed with his personality but I still felt reassured and hopeful with the information and prescriptions he gave me. Second visit was less impressed as he seemed to be only looking for quantitative positive improvement, which I couldn't provide, and ignored some of the points I made. Third visit convinced me to stop seeing him and write a letter to the office complaining. He completely brushed off my new concerns and was only interested in what he had already diagnosed/prescribed. I even pressed him a bit, to which he replied that I should "Leave it alone." Like others have reported, I walked out in tears, feeling totally defeated. Perhaps he goes through bad moods like everyone, but he definitely lets it affect the care and treatment he provides if so. Luckily, I found a new doctor who validated my concerns and has treated them. I won't say don't see him, as I'm sure he can help some people, just know what you might get.

Worst doctor ever. I cried at my appointment because of my recent diagnose and he told me I needed to be on antidepressants. He recommended surgery; did the lap and then almost killed me. Had to have a second emergency lap and three blood transfusions because I had lost so much blood. When I called to tell him I was feeling weak after the surgery and not right he told me to buck up and walk around. I then left my house by ambo and had a week stay in the hospital. Awful experience. DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR!

Awesome !! Clear, concise and to the point

I would definitely recommend this practice for help with pelvic pain. The doctor listens and gives honest advice. Also, the doctor is only as good as his staff and his staff are all fantastic! It is obvious they have great team work and quickly take care of any requests. Thank you to Dr. Marvel and his staff for helping me!

I was very hesitant to try Dr. Marvel because of some of these google reviews. I have pudendal neuralgia and he was one of only two doctors I could find in Maryland that treats this condition. I have been going to Dr. Marvel for about a year. I am a bit surprised to read negative reviews about him. His staff is great, and he spends a lot of time explaining what's going on and asking questions and exploring solutions. He takes things step by step and is easy to reach if something comes up. I feel he has spent a lot of time genuinely studying this area of medicine that neither my OB/GYN, Urologist, nor Urogynecologist could figure out. These are confusing ailments and it's nice to have someone in your corner. His approach hasn't for me been narcotic "pain pills" not once, and yet I'm a progress in the making.

Dr. Marvel is a superior doc. I found him caring, compassionate, and on point. I took his medical advice and followed it to a tee. Guess what? It worked. I had been to several specialists in the past without good results. I've been in remission since under Dr. M's care. The guy knows his stuff...

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Marvels for years and he has saved my life! If you have a complicated case he’s the one to see. Very responsive and caring. After a year of not being able to sit up straight he went in and did an exploratory laparoscopy and fixed what another doctor messed up on. After I recovered I could sit up and stretch my abdomen! After the initial pain was taken care of, he understood other issues might present. When they did he’s taken every measure to help me. He’s helped me find other doctors and pointed me in the right directions with my other health issues. I’ve called for help for random things and he always does his best. If you’re looking for real solutions to problems (not just a bandaid of pain meds) Dr. Marvel is exceptional. I trust him with my life. My hubby and I call him Dr. Marvelous. This doc is nothing short of amazing! Extremely knowledgeable - actually an expert in his field. He listened to my health concerns. I then listened to his advice and followed his easy-to-follow (and frankly life changing) treatment recommendations. I will not be back. Please believe the negative reviews. I left his office in tears. He has the worst bedside manner I have ever encountered and cannot provide a course of treatment for my condition. If you try and find further treatment for yourself with a different doctor, you can forget about Dr. Marvel being of any help. His ego gets bruised and he throws his hands up and dismisses you. I like the man. He can be a little dry and blunt but so am I. He does warm up as you get to know him. Plus he does lots of things no other GYN usually does. Don't understand how somebody could write he has non-specialized care. He most certainly does have a Specialized Care. I've gotten to like him very much. I think he's good at what he does and he actually was discouraging to me jumping into a more expensive surgery and wanted to try something simpler. He took the time to explain what he was going to do and what my condition was. I felt confident in his explanation, more so than other doctors that I've seen for my issue. He wasn't rude as some of the reviews says, but direct, which I appreciate. His examine was different from the other doctors that I'd been to, less routine which made me feel more like he was a specialist. He drew some diagrams to help explain my issue as well. My only complaint, in which he did apologize for, was that he was running just about an hour behind schedule and I believe I was only his 2nd patient. He admitted that the prior patient took more time than anticipated.This caused me to have to change my appointments that I had at work. Medical students are taught the importance of listening to your patients and that with a good history you can come up with a diagnosis 90 percent of the time. Somewhere along the way it gets lost as a physician moves on, often interrupting patients with their own "agenda" of questions. Finally found an incredible doctor who actively listened & have a working diagnosis for my postpartum complications, and something that provides a LOT of relief, thanks to Dr. Marvel! Medicine has become all about box checking for the purpose of documentation and RVU billing which is just sad. Dr. Marvel is the exception, careful, thoughtful and brilliant. Would recommend a consultation with Dr. Marvel without question. I traveled from NJ to do so and will continue to follow up with him if needed. I have seen many doctors during this journey (and am a physician myself). There is no one I would trust more! He’s extremely rude and pushy for being a “down there” doctor. Rough, and doesn’t want to hear what you have to say. He lied about the medication he prescribed me, and when he talked to me about prescribing, he was extremely vague. Had a very terrible experience with him and issues not resolved or remotely fixed. Wasted so much time and money. I’m a tough person and I felt like I wanted to cry every time I left his office.

I have had Dr. Marvel as my doctor for a couple of years. I was so glad to have been referred by my PT! He will give you the straight story of what is wrong and what he recommends. He spends the time necessary to listen to your story and medical issues and will answer any and all questions you have.

I was referred to Dr.Marvel after seeing countless doctors for unexplained vaginal pain for months. The pain had become unbearable and no one could help. He immediately diagnosed me and I was so happy and hopeful. But then the meds were not helping and he was not happy about my concerns.He was rough with the exam and told me I needed a surgery. I ended up at Drexel and was acturately diagnosed with vulvodynia.Thank goodness I didn't get the surgery! A year later I got 2 bills saying I owe money!

I have had one visit with Dr. Marvel for my chronic pain conditions. He was amazing!!! Blunt and to the point he was the first doctor in 2 years to lay it all out tell me it wasn't going to be easy but its possible. I have needed to hear those words for a long time. He could already tell I was a stubborn person who doesn't like change and it may cause us to butt heads BUT i will take that any day over a doctor who doesnt help me in any means. Dr. Marvel presented as a compassionate man who understood my pain (as a pelvic pain specialist) and would work to find the best treatment possible. He told me "he lived out of the box" as far as treatment plans. I saw him three times. He gave me one round of pain meds to help me live a semi-normal life and then told me my only option was induced menopause....aka Lupron. My husband and I know this is a failed prostate drug after all of our research, but he dismissed. My suggestion: go to Dr. Im.

I was a patient of Dr. Marvel's for a number of years. I trusted him, as he was the first doctor I had who listened and trusted my description of pelvic pain. But I had a horrific, traumatic medical procedure at his hands that changed everything for me. I experienced great pain in this procedure and when I told him that I was in pain and NOT OK, he did not stop or acknowledge this. He could hear me sobbing, but did nothing. I cannot in good faith recommend him, despite his expertise.

Dr Marvel is patient and caring. He deals with difficult to treat diagnosises, that can be overwhelming for the patient. He is very straightforward whe dealing with the patient. I feel lucky to have found him.

DO NOT SEE THIS MAN. "Doctor" Marvel is an abrasive, rude, condescending cretin who hides behind the "authority" of his doctorate. Exam lasted maybe five minutes. Had me meet him back in his office where he silently typed on the computer so long I got out my phone while I was waiting. Then proceeded to reprimand me on lifestyle habits I'm already working on changing. Never mentioning the exam or what he "found". I wish I had walked out within the first two minutes of our encounter.

I've seen others write Dr. Marvel has given me my life back- which is funny because as I was thinking of my review, those were the exact words that came to mind. I spent 2 years struggling with symptoms that felt so severe, they had a serious impact on my mental health. My regular gyn could not help me- and I tried time and time again with multiple doctors. Dr Marvel saw me and within ten minutes was able to diagnose me when I'd been dealing with the issue for nearly 8 years. Not only did he give me a diagnosis, he was able to identify my symptoms before I even told him! He truly is an expert in his field. Don't let these other reviews scare you, he's really fantastic. Ps-I am a recovery room nurse and my husband is a surgeon, I pretty much know what I'm talking about.

Dr. Marvel totally lacks medical ethics. Despite his nice communication skills, the only thing he thinks about when seeing patients is MONEY! He charged me for an office visit twice more than 2 other doctors, whom I saw for the same symptoms. It's the first time in my experience that a doctor does not return patient's calls. Instead, his office assistant called me and said to schedule another appointment with the doctor, though all I needed was a referral for a test.His knowledge is doubtful too

The cover letter sent to new patients is filled with misspellings, malapropisms and misconjugated verbs. And the Doc's name is signed on that letter. That should have been my first clue. I went there anyway out of desperation. I am male with pudendal neuralgia, a devastating issue. So Marvel sees men but takes no insurance. The consult fee was $750! He is basically praying on the desperate. For $750 I got a nice overview of pudendal neuralgia (that anyone can get off the internet), a toothpick stuck in my penis and a few drugs to try. No solutions, no help. Then the office made multiple mistakes trying to submit the insurance paperwork.
