Richard Harris Mansfield

We have been with Dr. Mansfield for nearly 8 years now. He is kind and patient with my child. He is knowledgeable, very thorough and you can feel the care and concern he has for the children he sees. His staff is excellent. Gwen recently helped us in getting a needed asthma medication through the pre-authorization phase after I wasn't able to get in for 8 months. Dr. Mansfield is an extremely competent pediatrician. I have been bringing my little ones to his office ever since we moved here two years ago, and have been very impressed with how focused he is on the job at hand. He treats children with great dignity, and has an almost laser-like focus when he’s working. I think some reviewers on HealthGrades who gave him less than stellar marks may have found his quirky personality a little off-putting if they’re not used to it. If you write him off for this, it's your loss. Look, I don't think the guy is a Southerner. He has a rather brief way of speaking with you, and a wry sense of humor. Maybe that will be a turnoff to you if you want lots of chat and pleasantries. Personally, I find his manner charming since I’m not originally from the South. The first time I met him, though, I was not expecting him to come charging in the room and just start his evaluation without much introduction, and it kind of threw me off. My husband, however, who is from the North, is always absolutely delighted when he gets to bring the kids to the doctor because he really likes Dr. Mansfield and thinks he is hilarious. I've grown to really appreciate Dr. Mansfield since our first meeting, due to his obvious concern and care for our children, and the kindness with which he treats them. Regardless of whether you take to his manner of relating to you as a parent, you can be assured that he is a gifted physician and very thorough with evaluating and/or diagnosing your child. As an added bonus, if you give birth at St. Francis Hospital and list Dr. Mansfield as your newborn’s physician (you should do this if you already have other children already in his care as patients), he will be your child’s pediatrician while STILL IN THE HOSPITAL. I was totally taken by surprise when the morning after our latest baby was born, who should breeze into my hospital room but Dr. Mansfield! He made a very thorough evaluation of the baby and then assured me his associate doctor would visit her one more time before we were discharged. Like, WHAT?!?!? Sure enough, his associate, Dr. Manka, (who is new to the practice and just a genuinely lovely person to be around — very calm and friendly) was there the next day, an hour before we were due to be discharged, to sign off on the baby’s care so we could leave. There is something very cool about having your baby’s doctor there from the very beginning. Anyway, here are a few things to know ahead of time with Dr. Mansfield: 1: The practice is VERY busy, and I have found myself waiting in an examining room for long periods, often with a bunch of kids to entertain. You will need to bring lots of things for them to do, as there is a dearth of child-friendly items while in the examining room (the waiting room, however, has a cool electric train that encircles both waiting rooms at ceiling height that the kids can control by hitting a huge button on the wall — my oldest LOVES this feature — simple idea, but genius). 2: Dr. Mansfield not into alternative medicine. If that's your thing and you're super sensitive, don't be offended if you tell him you squirt breast milk into your baby's eye to treat infections and he offers an opinion. 3: Understand ahead of time that if you need lab work done, you may need to take the sample the doctor retrieves at the appointment to LabCorp yourself to get it processed…yes, it’s a little weird…and in my case a little exasperating when you’ve got a number of little ones in the car… But in any case, these hassles are worth it to have Dr. Mansfield has your child’s pediatrician. I would recommend always ensuring your appointment is with him. Based on our family's experience, if you get Dr. Mansfield (or Dr. Manka) you’ll be delighted at the quality of care your child receives! As a side note: I have heard from friends who have children with disabilities that this is THE doctor in Columbus to see for their care. He apparently has a wonderful way with families and children in those circumstances. He's a gem of a pediatrician! Dr. Mansfield is an extremely competent pediatrician. Dr. Mansfield is a wonderful pediatrician. I really am bewildered by how people can leave low ratings for him, but then are not required to provide any details to validate their scoring. Our experience with him has been great! We have a number of very young children, and Dr. Mansfield treats them with great care and kindness. He is very thorough and doesn't miss a thing. He's a great doctor, and worth any hassles due to a busy office to see him.

I teach school and when any new family arrives in town and ask for advice on doctors, I always feel confident when I recommend Pediatrics at Brookstone. Dr. Mansfield is a very knowledgeable, thorough, and caring doctor. Gwen and the rest of the staff are always so quick to return calls and Gwen gives a personal experience to where a parent never feels hesitant to call for advice. We have been very happy over these last 15 years through wellness visits and the tough diagnosis that have been made
