Dr. Richard Randolph Maxwell Francis

Dr. Francis discussed my X-ray and presented me with two options. One option was disc fusion and the other was disc replacement. Dr. Francis assured me that he could take care of the problems I was having with either option. I chose the disc replacement. The surgery went great with minimal pain afterwards. I had been suffering from neck pain for about ten years. I wish I would have found out sooner about Dr. Francis. I highly recommend Dr Francis to anyone who suffers with neck problems.

The office staff as well as the surgical staff were very hospitable, knowledgeable, and professional. Dr. Francis performed surgery on my wife. She was so pleased with the results that she recommended Dr. Francis. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my surgery and I encourage anyone having spinal problems to visit Dr. Francis.

Dr. Francis absolutely changed my life! Extremely grateful I found him after going through multiple previous doctors that could not identify my problem or help me. Dr. Francis identified the issue within seconds of seeing my imaging and I was scheduled for surgery within an hour after. He is thorough, gentle, so kind, and explains everything, which brings comfort in scary times. I am out of pain for the first time in years and cannot thank him enough. Dr. Francis is a wonderful doctor! I know for a lot of us we go to Houston to see doctors that are better than what we can get in this area, and he brings that quality to Beaumont. He is extremely intelligent, very professional, and cares not only about the care that you give but also about the experience you have with his office. When I originally canceled my surgery because I was afraid, he personally made time for me to talk through any fears that I had. I know that the wait time to see him is long and sometimes exhausting but it is worth it because he wants to give you HIS attention and personally know what you are going through. In my opinion if you are having back or neck issues, he is the go to guy. Deal with the wait times and I promise it will be worth it. Dr. Francis is a wonderful doctor! After a years of increasingly persistent lower-back pain, I finally went in to see Dr. Francis in January of 2022. As a suspected, my L5-S1 disc had further deteriorated and was now bone-on-bone. Once an MRI confirmed, Dr. Francis recommended an artificial disc replacement surgery. I was hesitant because in the fall of 2021 I had spent 2 months in ICU with COVID phenomena and nearly lost my life. Suffices to say, there was a higher degree of potential risk in having major back surgery so soon after a significant lung infection. Dr. Francis worked closely with a team of pulmonologists and cardiologists to make sure that my body was prepared for handle surgery. By late March of 2022 we had a collective confidence that there was no material risk in having surgery and on April 8th Dr. Francis performed the surgery. Almost immediately the back pain was gone, and the pain associated with the surgery was minor by comparison. Success! thanks Doc.!

I want to begin by saying that all the staff I have gotten the pleasure to speak with have been good/kind. After being seen by Dr Francis and going through procedures I have been doing so much better. Why 3 stars? The wait time experience here is honestly ridiculous. I had an appointment at 2pm, I get here about 45 minutes earlier after having to leave work early. And yet I do not get out of the building until 6pm! So absurd. I can’t begin to thank you Dr. Richard Francis and spine associates for all that you all have done. I have been in back pain for years due to all the horror stories that I heard about back surgery. All I ever heard was don’t do it. I was literally in fear of the thought of the injections to the actual surgery. Trust me when I tell you it is not at all what I was told. My name is B. Hunter. Dr. Francis is a lifesaver to me. I was suffering from pain and tingling in my right leg for a long time. There was constant tingling and numbness in my leg to the point where I could not stand for 3 minutes. These issues limited my daily activities because I could not stand for long. I was referred to Dr. Francis by my personal physician. Dr. Francis and his staff were very friendly and made me feel comfortable with my decision to have a laminectomy to stop the sciatic nerve pain I was having. The pain had gotten more frequent and more severe to the point that it was difficult to walk. The surgery was performed on a Wednesday, two weeks ago and I have had no more pain from that day. I am glad that I had the surgery so that I can now get back to doing all the things that I was not able to do because of the pain. I would highly recommend Dr. Francis and Spine Associates if you are having back pain.

Dr. Richard Francis has made an enormous impact on my family TWICE. I have a daughter who started having pain in her knees and back at age 10. By age 15 she was primarily bed and wheelchair bound. Unable to dress herself or care for her basic needs. She had been seen by numerous doctors and we even told by two that she was faking her symptoms. One trip, ONE TRIP, to Dr. Francis and he said, 'I think I know what you have but we are going to do some tests to confirm.' Within a week all tests came back and she did; in fact, have what he suspected. Ankylosing Spondylitis. He referred us to a pediatric rheumatologist. The road ahead was still a long one but today she is 22, a student, and newly engaged to be married. She has her life back - all because Dr. Francis caught something that no previous doctor had even considered. My other daughter began to have serious backpain. She minimized it and hid it from her father and I because she said, 'Compared to what my sister was going through, I felt like I was being a baby.' One day she called me from work and asked if I could give her an early ride home because she didn't think she could make the drive. I picked her up and questioned what she meant by that. She explained that she left home to go to work early everyday because she could only drive about 5 minutes at a time and then she had to get up and walk to ease the pain. I called Dr. Francis immediately (from the car!). He got her in that night so her could evaluate her. After seeing an x-ray that she had taken the week before (the chiropractor that ordered it hadn't even bothered to look at it yet), he said you have a herniated disc that was putting pressure on the nerves that control her bowels and bladder. Dr. Francis reviewed my condition quickly and explained my surgery options. Once I decided on surgery, everything proceeded as described. Staff was thorough and attentive during the entire process. Recovery and therapy has gone well. Back pain is minimal and my quality of life is better and back to normal.

Had surgery to fuse my L5 vertebrae. Surgery went well I was up walking that same day with little pain. Dr Francis stop by early the next morning to check how I was doing. The Houston office staff is a joy to work with. Couldn’t be happier with my experience.

I would recommend Dr. Francis to all our family and friends. Scheduled all test on the first day to save many trips. After surgery came out personally to tell us the surgery went fine. My husband stood up right after surgery and smiled and said the pain is gone!

I was suffering from sciatic pain. Dr. Francis and his team diagnosed the problem explained the proposed solution and scheduled me for surgery within days. Dr. Francis made a simple promise. I will do my best. His best was excellent.

I have been hurting for many years with back pain. Unable to do anything without pain was impossible. One of the most knowledgeable Dr.’s in this field. After suffering a work ending injury, Dr Francis and his team literally put me back together again. Having to have a SI joint fusion, complete cervical fusion consisting of two different surgeries and back repair, Dr Francis has given me my life back.

Dr.Francis is very good surgeon. He is knowledgeable and answers questions and give details of what is wrong. He doesn’t want anyone to suffer in pain, he will get to the bottom of what is causing your problem. He will not do surgery unless it’s needed and your healthy enough to go through it.

I have been dealing with off consistant back and leg pain for 25years. My wife finally said enough and scheduled my apointment with Dr. Francis. They performed and few test (nerve, MRI, xray, etc) and showed me the photos of my ruptured disc. We scheduled surgery a week later and I have been pain free ever since. The relief is amazing. I can sleep through the night. I don't sleep on a piece of plywood anymore. Best decision my wife ever made aside from marrying me!

Dr. Francis and his AMAZING team was such a blessing to me during my time of struggle and pain I was treated with dignity and respect . Dr. Francis worked hard on my behalf to figure out my back pain and he was able to give me answers very quickly along with a resolution. I was nervous about having surgury and he and his team gave me comfort and strength and I am so glad I trusted him. I am a mom of 2 young children and he gave me back my quality of life!

I had a nerve issue in my spine, which the neurologist could not handle. Doctor Francis knew the correct answer, performed the surgery, and I am feeling 100% better.

Please consider reading my experience with this medical group. Starting with a few pros... Dr Francis is awesome and did an AMAZING job explaining the process, and actually performing the procedure on me, I strongly recommend him for this. HOWEVER... I have had so many bumps in the road with this medical group as well. From the first day I went in... spending over 8+ hrs (arriving for the first appointment of the day) and waiting for 3/8 of that time at LEAST for seemingly no reason while other nurses/Drs could be seen doing nothing.. on top of that, I had my follow up appointment canceled because I didn't finish my PT, BUT my work place wasn't notified even though I requested they do so, and I still wanted some kind of check up to see my progress, which was denied. Towards the end, when I DID have my follow up... I tried to hand off my return to work papers as well, to 3 people to be exact. Each person had a reason to "not take it" and made an excuse to pass it off to another person. ONE INDIVIDUAL even said they already had the documentation already and they didn't need the physical copy. Several weeks passed and i was still getting calls from my workplace saying they had recieved nothing, and I can potentially face termination (still TBD). I faxed numerous copys myself, as well from another email and had no luck. Finally I got in touch with someone and expressed my frustration on how I NEEDED THIS DONE ASAP... and they told me they had the files in an email for 2-3 weeks... WHO ISNT DOING THEIR JOB?? I AM STRUGGLING WITH BILLS AND I DONT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE MONEY BECAUSE SOMEONE IS BEING LAZY AND WANTS TO MAKE FREE MONEY INSTEAD OF SENDING OUT DOCUMENTS. This is BEYOND frustrating... and I was personally GUARANTEED nothing would go wrong before my surgery, and that there has never been a problem returning to work. This is beyond my comprehension of how this could go unnoticed for SO LONG. I now deal with papers saying I was good to go back to work June 23... but were signed and dated on JULY 6TH!? The amount of stress and difficulty this is causing is unheard of. I hope the best for anyone else that you DONT have to go thru this. DO NOT GO TO HIM! He performed an outdated procedure for my moms back surgery and because of it she developed fibromyalgia. On top of that she was in excruciating pain after the surgery and he was more concerned about receiving a 5 star review then her health. On top of that when she tried to call the office to schedule an appointment because of the pain they wouldn’t schedule it because there was a $100 balance on her account. AWFUL! Performed an outdated surgery for my moms back, ended up causing her to have fibromyalgia because of his negligence. On top of that he didn’t do anything to help her after she told him about her pain and his office staff wasn’t of help either. He was more concerned about receiving a good review then her health. Truly arrogant and because of his procedure she now deals with chronic pain. Not sure how he’s still practicing at this point. DO NOT GO TO HIM!

I have known and been under Dr. Francis's care since August 2013, after years of back problems finally caused my legs to give in.. I went to see Dr.Francis and in a week he surgicsly repaired and restored my legs to full use and feeling, something I had in around 20 years. In Oct Dr.Francis repaired my neck surgically restoring full function and feeling to both arms and hands. Effectively, Dr Francis gave md my life back. I Have suffered with Sciatica Pain over a year, Once Referred to Dr. FRANCIS Everything happened so fast and smoothly. I had a large Herniated disc at the L5-S1 that had displaced my spinal Nerve Roots. NEEDED SURGERY.. Long story short the MVP Surgical Center in Houston TX. Was Life to me.. My 17-year old daughter had severe leg and back pain for the past 4-5 months. I took her to a doctor who did a hip xray and said everything was normal. Took her to another doctor who took some more xrays and said she needed to see a specialist. We saw Dr. Francis on a Tuesday, did an MRI, and determined she had an extremely large herniated disc. Surgery was scheduled for Friday. Everything happened so quickly. The first thing she did when we got back to the hotel was tearfully thank us for making the pain go away. Dr. Francis and staff are excellent at what they do! Dr. Francis determined the cause of my pain and lack of mobility and created an immediate plan of action. I didn’t have to wait and take a slow, “we’ll see” approach. He also was my advocate with insurance as they not once but twice denied coverage. **Highly recommend Dr Francis** I had back pain for over 10 yrs and went to chiropractors, therapy, decompression and nothing worked. I went to see Dr Francis because he did my dads surgery in 2002. Dr Francis looked at the MRI I brought but did his own tests and CT scan to find the cause of my pain. After we went through the results and what needed to be done. Please check you billing statement was charged for something my insurance covered and have been trying to contact billing for 2 months still no answer or call back, keep getting sent to the operator. I told the receptionist what I was suppose to pay for copay and spend 190 more just because they knew I was in so much pain. Dr. Francis performed my husband's surgery a couple of weeks ago. The surgery was unsuccessful leaving my husband slightly worse off than he was before the surgery. Post appointment we sat in the examination room for almost 2 hours before being seen by an assistant who spent 1 minute in the room discussing physical therapy. We did not see Dr. Francis at all. No xrays have been done, no CT scans, and no mri to explain why this expensive surgery was a bust! I do not recommend taking the chance. I feel so bad for anyone who has to be put through that. I haven't seen Dr. Francis in about 3 years due to the same issue most on here are complaining about. I went in for scoliosis consult bc my adult scoliosis progressed and I was in a lot of pain due to the rotation , curve and deformity. I worked in a hospital for 8 years (non-clinical) so I had some knowledge & background, not to mention the years prior of seeing a pediatric scoliosis specialist. Long story short Dr. F came in and suggested surgery, I remember asking educated questions about pre vs post surgery outcomes. He assured me his patients always fared way better after. Dr. F had many awards and was highly rated (at the time, 2012) so I felt confident if he did my sx I would be in good hands. I had CHRONIC pain from day 1 following my sx to now. I saw him several times complaining of my pain post sx and finally about 2017 he (with a smidge of attitude) told me, "I cant help you, I can refer you to PT and thats all I can do" I have already been doing 5 years of PT what good is that going to do me if I am anatomically disfigured POST sx and you refuse to own up to it and try to help remedy my situation or ease my pain. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Francis and his staff in Beaumont, Houston, and MVP Surgery Center. They take such good care of you and I would recommend Dr. Francis to everyone!!!

Great Dr. Fixed my spine that was broken from a car wreck.. Absolutely brilliant. He took the time to take me to the MRI which he had up on a huge viewing screen and explained what was wrong and the choice I had to fix it. Every time time I came in after the spine fusion he took xray and took me to the huge screen and explained. I did drink 2 protein drinks every day and he asked me what I was doing. I told him what I done and in our conversation he told me that was why I healed up so good. It did take a long time to heal but HE DID A BRILLIANT JOB FIXING MY SPINE FUSION FROM L5-S1 was GREAT. LOVE THIS DR his personality is great. HIS SKILLS ARE EVEN BETTER. 9-15-20 update another injury unfortunately. Slipped and fell a few times but a recent and repeated fall has left my right leg unbearable. Went to hip Dr and it looked like hips are ok. My 17-year old daughter had severe leg and back pain for the past 4-5 months. I took her to a doctor who did a hip xray and said everything was normal. Took her to another doctor who took some more xrays and said she needed to see a specialist. We saw Dr. Francis on a Tuesday, did an MRI, and determined she had an extremely large herniated disc. Surgery was scheduled for Friday. Everything happened so quickly. The first thing she did when we got back to the hotel was tearfully thank us for making the pain go away. I told her she needed to thank Dr. Francis. She had her follow-up appt and she thanked him. We had strangers overhear us say his name and they just had to tell us how wonderful he was. Thank you Dr. Francis for helping my daughter begin her road to recovery.

Dr. Francis is an excellent spine surgeon. He takes his time with his patients and makes sure you know everything, including the odds of success, in order to allow you to make an informed decision. His staff is professional and caring. I would highly recommend his to anyone considering back surgery or who may be having problems with the spine.

For the past 25 years, I have suffered with terrible back pain. At one point, the pain was so severe it landed me in the emergency room. As the pain progressed, it prevented me from doing the two things I love, dancing and walking. I was one of those people that refused to have spinal surgery. I met with a spine surgeon, but decided not to have surgery and I would live with the discomfort. Then someone recommended Dr. Francis. During our consult he explained where my pain was coming from, and how he could relieve it. I believed right away that he could help me with this pain. So much so, I made the appointment for surgery that same day. It's been three months since my surgery, and I have been able to do all the things my ailing back would not allow me to do. I can't emphasize enough on his character and his dedication to his profession. I would like to "THANK" him and his amazing staff for allowing me to enjoy the many things I am now able to do. I would highly recommend Dr. Francis!

I Have suffered with Sciatica Pain over a year, Once Referred to Dr. FRANCIS Everything happened so fast and smoothly. I had a large Herniated disc at the L5-S1 that had displaced my spinal Nerve Roots. NEEDED SURGERY.. Long story short the MVP Surgical Center in Houston TX. Was Life to me.. Very Professional and Efficient. Surgery Took. About 45 mins. I was out and walking to the car 2 hours later pain free!!! Glory to God!From Terrified of hearing Surgery... To Hallelujah No More Pain..Post Surgery Day 1- 4 was the worst it hurt at the Surgical site.. to make the slightest Move.Afterwards.. Today is day 6. I walked a Mile today dressed myself and can sit up with No pain....No sciatica Pain at All!!! I can go on but.. Lastly let me say!!! If u want Relief? Call Spine Associates...Dr Francis is Heaven Sent...!!! Trust me...

Having my surgery with Dr. Francis was amazing, he took away all the fear I had and now I’m pain free.

Had a very go experience at the Beaumont office everytime we went. Surgery went well in Houston everyone was nice. Nurses are very knowledgeable. The only bad experience was the insurance did not approve the surgery at first. Had to reschedule for next business day.

Excellent surgeon, over the last 4 years my husband & I have referred 6 people. All have had great results except for one that didn’t do the exercises required after surgery. She is a pill popper that wants sympathy not results. Don’t go here if all you want is drugs.

I had back pain for over 10 yrs and went to chiropractors, therapy, decompression and none worked. I went to see Dr Francis because he did my dads surgery in 2002. Dr Francis looked at the MRI I brought but did his own tests and CT scan to find the cause of my pain. After we went through the results and what needed to be done. Dr Francis was very thorough about explaining the procedures and outcome, along with making sure I was comfortable. He checked on me after surgery and once I completed therapy, or if I walked by him when in the office. I had a complete disc replacement and SI fusion. I am 34 yrs and never thought I would have to get spinal surgery. I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. Dr Francis is very knowledgeable, thoughtful, and cares about all his patients. I am beyond great for Dr Francis, his team, and everyone at MVP.

Dr. Richard Francis is very knowledgeable and compassionate about his art and patients. His Beaumont and Houston staff are nice too. The fact that he’s all hands on and makes every effort to meet with his clients goes above and beyond. This man should receive a recognition award of the year, every year!!!!

Dr. Francis is the best spine doctor anyone could wish for. He took note of all that was said during the visit, asked pertinent questions , listening to the responses, and answered all my questions, taking his time. He did not rush me like many doctors do. He checked me physically after the surgery and made sure I got and am getting the necessary therapy I need for full recovery.

I have had 3 different back surgeries dating back to my time in the Marine Corps. I was injured in Afghanistan which was the beginning of what would be years of back and nerve pain. I have had numerous procedures and doctors try but never get it right. I was referred to Dr Francis from my PCM because I was yet again having horrible back pain that literally left me crying and wanting it to end by any means. The first thing he did was request the correct exams and films. It was the second appointment where he explained what was going on and what he felt he could do for me. For me, wait times are understandable because it’s shows he doesn’t rush his patients in and out(wait time was actually great). He suggested a specific procedure but what is more important to me was the fact that he explained everything that he saw in my back, from my fusion to my stimulator and what he felt he needed to do to provide me with the relief I have been seeking for years. He did that and I am grateful!

He knew within 10 mins what was wrong and had tests done to prove what he said was to begin with, he knows his stuff

I would not recommend Spine Associates unless you like waiting 3 hours to be seen. I was in pain due to my back and could not sit 3 hrs. waiting for a doctor that I was scheduled to see at 7:15pm. I chose to leave the office this time in 2 hrs. since it was 9pm.

My first experience was ok...

Had to wait over two hours before my name was called to be seen, then waited another 1.5 to see a doctor. I seen the doctor for a total of 10 minutes. I waited more time than seeing him in person.

Doctor was great , just the waiting time is over the top too much appointment was at 1pm didn’t see the doctor until 4pm left around 4:30 pm!! Other than that Everything was fine! Even the staff were friendly and helpful!

Great doctor. Super friendly staff . The wait time is almost unbearable. Other then the wait is definitely recommend.

I am very please with Dr Francis and his diagnostic of my back/spinal problem.
