Informative and helpful visit

It’s was a good experience talkings you Dr. Balasekaran. He listened to all my problems patiently and discussed treatment plans. The only concern is the timing. I had to wait for 2 hrs to see him, he apologized to it though. It’s understandable that he is the only provider and may run into emergency patients however my recommendation to him and his office is to work on keeping up with appointment timings or at least inform the patients if they are behind the schedule so that the patients can plan accordingly.

Absolutely the worst doctor experience i have had. For context, I am having some serious stomach (and therefore full body) health concerns. This appointment was made a quarter year in advance and was based on a referral from a PCP. Firstly, Dr. Balasekaran was two hours late, due to an emergency procedure. While that's a completely justifiable cause, it would have been more professional if he had rescheduled his afternoon appointment(s) instead of making his patient(s) wait for two hours only for a five minute, or at least very brief appointment. Secondly, when I (finally) entered the actual doctor's office, Christian religious music was playing (loudly) over a bluetooth speaker. To restate, this was in the personal room I was moved to, and not in the lobby, so no one was in this room but me. Which I say to emphasize that this radio was completely unnecessary. Playing religious music in shared spaces where people whose religious affiliation is unknown is highly unprofessional and is not the "brave profession of values" it may have been meant to be. Thirdly, after fifteen to thirty minutes of waiting in the room, I was finally joined by Dr. Balasekaran, who introduced himself and went on to ask me if I had come because my "tummy was hurting". Let me clarify that Dr. Balasekaran is a lead gastrointerologist and not a primary care physician; his patients, including myself, see him because they/we are having gastro problems that effect wider areas of our bodies and lives than just our "tummies". This introduction, as well as the time barrier, should have been indicative to the seriousness with which Dr. Balasekaran would take my case. Fourthly(?), Dr. Balasekaran did not turn the Christian music down or off during the appointment-- he just spoke over it. This was not a fair, or religious service, or open public space. This was a professional setting in which I (the patient) had waited and worked to see Dr. Balasekaran (the doctor, as his title indicates) for his advice and access to help. It was not the appropriate time or space for faith profession. Religion should not have been even a part of this medical experience. Fifthly, the only valid questions he asked me about my concerns were if (and this is tmi) my stools were bloody and if my IBS medicine were working. He did not ask about my (many) other symptoms or concerns (including dermatological reactions to unknown foods, joint aches, constant extreme stomach pain, etc), he did not ask about the length of time my symptoms had been prevalent, and he did not ask about previous diagnoses (IBS, acid reflux, and panic disorders). He then went on to explain IBS as if it were a rare and unknown condition and not one commonly had (and one clearly on my chart, at that). Dr. Balasekaran also gestured that I lay down on the doctor's table/bed/thing and, without asking for my allowance or consent, began touching my stomach. This is incredibly insensitive and inappropriate. Everyone should understand, especially people in medical fields, that consent is incredibly important prior to touching parts of the body, especially parts that are not extremities (arms, legs, head). This was a very triggering moment for me, which would have also been evident if he had read my chart (that states that I have several anxiety/panic disorders, including PTSD). While I know it is an often necessary part of an appointment, consent is MANDATORY. While Dr. Balasekaran did schedule me a colonoscopy, his entire interaction with me was riddled with unprofessionalism and common disrespect. I'm about to hit the limit here, but other aspects of my experience also certainly made this not a "safe space".

Other than having to wait one hour after my appointment, and not having the right information or patient, the doctor's information was great.

Amazing DR. Very caring and professional. Saved my life.

I waited an hour and 15 minutes from my scheduled appointment time before being taken back to a room to wait another 10 minutes for the Dr. (I arrived 30 minutes early for my appointment time.) Two people that came in after my appointment time were taken back before me. My time was not appreciated.

Everyone was very professional from Nancy at the front desk to Monica the nurse. I did have a short wait but nothing horrible.

From the time we entered the Emergency Room, Northwest Hospital Bentonville, AR we were treated promptly, respectfully and kept informed as to plan of treatment. Dr Balasekaran spoke succinctly to my wife explaining ulcer cauterization. He makes eye contact and sees you as a person. He explained the plan of treatment to transition from a liquid diet to solid food and be able to go home. There were also timely follow-up visits during the hospital stay. At the one month follow up I got a handshake and a "Glad to see you." My heartfelt response was "And I'm glad to see you"! Dr B explained how a duodenal ulcer developed and how to balance a lifestyle of treating an 80 year olds joint aches and pains with avoiding another ulcer.--Knowledge is power. The entire experience was Quality Care all the way.

This was one of the best experiences I have had with a medical procedure since moving to Arkansa or from my days in California. Setting an appointment was easy and done well in advance. Once, scheduled, the doctor's office called to explain the procedure, sent instructions, and placed an order for the prescription. The office called me twice before my visit to ask if I had any questions and to confirm the procedure and the staff was very patient with me. During the the day of my procedure, my check-in process was simple and easy. I was then taken back with my wife. The nurses were very welcoming, as was the anesthesiologist, and the Doctor. They explained what to expect and how long the procedure would take, and next steps if needed. I was in and out, did not feel a thing, and thank God everything came back normal. I was given time to wake up and recover and was done. I never leave reviews but this team was amazing!

Dr. Balasekaran is a wonderful doctor, very caring and individualized for each patient he sees. Him and his staff are great and caring.

I recently had a routine colonoscopy at NW Medical Center in Springdale, Ar. Dr. Balasekaran and all of the staff and nurses were amazing!! They were very organized and efficient and provided confident care. I would recommend them 100%!

My mom recently had a colonoscopy with Dr. Balasekaran who had been suffering for several weeks with intense diarrhea. Her primary care doctor reached out to him, and he was able to get the visit scheduled quickly. We are 100% grateful to this doctor! Dr. Balasekaran listened to us about the amount of discomfort my mom was in, and he was very caring. We thought at first that my mom had severe ulcerative colitis. It ended up being her two arthritis medicines counteracting and causing her issue that was discovered from the colonoscopy. If if wasn't for Dr. Balasekaran getting my mom in quickly to see him, she might not be here today. We are appreciative of him helping my mom, and we highly recommend him as a doctor!

While everyone knows getting a colonoscopy is not something to look forward to, my experience at Dr. Balasekran‘s office was better than expected. They were helpful, very pleasant, and Dr. Balasacran’s Office bedside manner was amazing.

Dr. Balasekaran and all of his staff made us feel at ease and comfortable. He was genuinely concerned about my health and recommended a follow-up in 5 years which I will definitely do.

Dr. Balasekaran listened to my concerns and ordered the diagnostic procedures necessary to discern whether or not there was need to be concerned or to treat medically. Also, he listened to my concerns on anesthesia and worked with that team to address my concerns as well.

Dr Balasekaran is a very caring and knowledgeful doctor. He listens and really helps. He has gone above and beyond to help me; he was instrumental in saving my life. I would recommend him to anyone.

I am now at the age where I had to get a colonoscopy. Dr. Balasekran was amazing and couldn’t have made the experience any better.

Preventative checkup

I had my 2nd colonoscopy with Dr Balasekaren and it couldn’t have been a better experience either time. They are not fun procedures but very necessary and he makes it easier to endure. He is very professional, funny, and has great bedside manners. He makes the experience easy and less dreadful than it could be given the circumstance of what it is. Kudos to this very good doctor. He gets an A in my grading system.

Dr. Balasekaran and his staff were professional and kind. I was very pleased with the care I received from them.

Dr. Balasekaran, his nurses and his anesthesiologist were very professional and friendly. They explained clearly what they were doing. After my procedure Dr. Balasekaran went over what he found and how it should be treated. He answered all of my questions and was very reassuring.

Dr. Balasekaran made it easy and comfortable to have a procedure most people don't 'want' to have. He was professional and kind - what more can you ask for?

Dr. B was thorough, kind and...yes..fun. He took time to inform, put me at ease and gave me the information I needed. Honestly, as strange as it sounds, it was the best hospital experience I've ever had. The nursing staff was awesome...and, yes...also fun. The atmosphere was light, positive and professional. I highly recommend Dr. B and his team.

Terrible responsiveness on top of multiple systems designed to ensure there's no way to actually talk to anyone mean I've gone without critical medication for over a month and other medication as well. I suspect his nurse is overworked as the few times I got responses were late into the evening.

Very kind doctor!

Courteous, friendly, professional, thorough. I wish they were all like Dr. Balasekaran.

Dr. B is extremely caring, professional, and hilarious! He has done 7 EGDs of mine and has been phenomenal. I greatly appreciate his wonderful bedside manner and his sense of humor. I highly recommend him for anyone needing a GI doctor in NWA without reservations.

He listens well and explains procedures clearly including types of anesthetics and medications used. I felt comfortable with him and trust him to do my procedure.

He was awesome.....it is seldom that a physician takes the time to introduce himself, explain what the procedure is like, what to expect, and then check in after it is all said and done. Dr. Balasekaran did just that, and in the process, might have even saved my life. Will definitely recommend him.....

I wish it would let me rank 0 stars, because that’s what’s deserved. There’s too much to put here. This man does not care about his patients AT ALL. He did not talk to us pre-surgery nor did he inform his staff about the procedure until in the OR. Told the patient in question he would be okay if he did not get any nutrients for over 10 days without any way to get nutrients. Ignores his staff when they mention to him their concerns in regards to the patient. Assumes their pain is “just anxiety” with no pain medication after an invasive surgery. First time to ever go to Bentonville and will not be back! However love the dr and the Springdale staff. I sat in the office for over an hour and a half before I was called back and the staff didn’t seem to care. Only leaving a review because I got a text asking how my experience was.

Dr Balasekaran is very professional with a great Dr / Patient relationship. You can tell he cares very much about his patients. He has time for your questions and concerns. The procedures he has done for us I don't think could be any better. I would recommend him to my friends and family.

Dr. Balasekaran is a consummate physician. The colonoscopy was easy, professional, and painless. I was well informed before, and after the conclusion of the successful procedure. Dr. Balasekaran exhibits superb 'bedside manner', and spent the time to make sure I was at ease.

I had never seen this physician before needing to have an EGD done. I met him the morning of and I have to say, he was very personable. I really liked him. He did what was needed and explained everything wonderfully!! I will definitely see him for any and all GI needs!!!

My wife was approved through Johnson and Johnson for stelera but when they got the shot they never called to let us know so my wife has been without treatment for a year because we could not afford another infusion.
