Dr Maxy fixed my dad’s fractured hip today. I never met him until today but his smile immediately put us at ease. He very thoroughly but simply explained the procedure he was going to perform on my dad. There are plenty of physicians that are brilliant, but it’s rare to find that along with a great personality. Dr Maxi did my back surgery and my husband's. I highly recommend him. Great doctor and answers all my guestions.

First let me state my 56 year old mother didn't make it off the table under Maxy's knife. She had been having neck pain for 8 years and every Dr. She saw said they wouldn't touch her neck. Her original Dr. Left town and refered her to Maxy. His God ego kicked in and said he would do the surgery bc according to him he's done thousands. All other DR's said she was too high risk and would have a longer life making her as comfortable as possible. This transition happened during Covid so Maxy is the only "Dr" I didn't get to speak with in person about her situation and his plans bc the referral came less than two weeks before she was scheduled to have the surgery after meeting him once. I have Power of Attorney, I'm next of kin, I'm also emergency contact. This surgery should have never happened without me speaking with this person first. My number has been the same for 15-16 years but on the day of surgery I got absolutely no updates about her surgery after about 8-9hrs I started calling

My number has been the same for 15-16 years but on the day of surgery I got absolutely no updates about her surgery after about 8-9hrs I started calling getting no one to speak with me bc it was one day surgery and they were closed so finally an operator connected me to the OR and I spoke with a nurse in the room. She stated Maxy wanted to speak with me personally because they ran into some complications. He called me back about and hr or hr and a half later more worried about telling me they had been trying to reach me with up dates all day but I didn't give my number to the OR nurse so obviously they had the correct number if he called me back from where I called. His attitude on how successful his part went was mind blowing knowing he let my mother bleed out over 5,000ml bc of hitting a bubble (aneurysm) then having to get another Dr in to fix his mess took way too long. They had to use a minx stint going through her growin bc they couldn't figure out what he hit to cause her to bleed so much. Very careless practice. The stint caused her to have multiple strokes which then lead to her brain DEATH. They waited til the next day to airlift her. Assuring me she's only on the ventilator for safety reasons and he also (Maxy) said they were keeping her in ICU so she could have a nurse close by after the surgery making no real acknowledgment of what he had just done. It was just water under the bridge. This man took my mother's life way too early and assumed a Neurosurgeon would fix his mistake but once gotten to Mission they said the damages were done and there's nothing could be done. Maxy kept calling her nurses at Mission wanting to know what was going on but bc he didn't have permission to get updates they couldn't tell him. He was calling my cell (her daughter) as well bc I think he finally realized he messed up BIG TIME!!! The God ego of these DR's have got to stop. My mother should have never been in that OR, Maxy should have gotten to know her history longer than 2-3 weeks of having her as a patient before even considering doing this surgery. I don't believe any real Dr would have ever done this surgery on a patient with her history. This was MALPRACTICE at it's finest. I now get to have a funeral for my mother, my children's Nana all because money is so important over human life. Thanks our family truly appreciates you.. Our confusions, pain, debt, grief will forever be in Honor of you.

On my first visit I experienced a friendly, professional staff exercising COVID -19 precautions starting when you step in the door

Even though I am a worker's compensation patient, Dr. Maxey has always treated me with respect and taken the time to examine, explain and listen to my concerns and treat me as appropriate.

Dr. Maxy is an expert provider. He was prepared, having reviewed my history prior to coming into the exam room. He answered all my questions with skill and precision.

My husband Russell Ramseur is a patient of his we really loved everything about emerge ortho and they really put her minds at ease in a difficult situation. The staff was friendly and courteous Dr Maxey as well as the rest of the staff was very patient and informative. We highly recommend.

Dr.Ralph Macy is the best doctor, he so kind , understanding and straight up with his patients. Very soft spoken. The best spine surgeon. I would recommend him to everyone. And his assistant nurse is the best on staff. Love them best.

Dr. Maxy is a great dr, I have been seeing him for years. I’m not going to any one else, it’s hard to find a dr that you trust and feel comfortable with. Dr. Maxy is the Best! He is a fantastic doctor, a great person with an excellent bedside manner, very knowledgeable and cares deeply for his patients. He knows what he is doing. I have had 4 back surgeries and should I have another, ONLY Dr. Maxy will be allowed to do it. If he can't do it, then I won't have it done. He is more like family to my family. We love him unconditionally. Every visit, he is straight forward and tells me just like it is. I refer everyone that needs an excellent doctor to Dr. Maxy. Dr maxey is caring and awesome doctor. He did my moms neck surgery and he was so caring to me and my family . He was calling explaining everything to us . I would highly recommend him !! Thank so much

I love Dr. Maxy. Been seeing him for about 18 years. Dr. Maxy only does surgery if that's the best option. He treated me for a ruptured L4 that was able to heal without surgery. He has also performed a cervical spinal fusion & a double lumbar fusion with laminectomy on me, many years apart. The staff at offices in Hickory & Morganton are just wonderful. However I was treated very rudely on several occassions by staff at Lenoir office. I was scheduled for incorrect procedures several times in the pain clinic there. Staff was even sound asleep at the check in desk. When I tried to make an appointment to talk with the office msnager about this I was treated ugly, denied access to her, & expelled from the practice... supposedly for cursing someone out. I said sh** 1 time out of pure frustration for the staff's ineptitude. NEVER CURSED AT ANYONE & CERTAINLY DIDN'T CURSE ANYONE OUT. If I did, I would have no problem saying so. It took many months to get around Emerge Ortho staff & back in touch with Dr. Maxy for him to do the spinal surgery I needed. HE WAS VERY SURPRISED. He is an excellent surgeon with a very caring & gracious bedside manner. He's always explains medical stuff in an understandable way. I recommend him to anyone! I love Dr. Maxy. I would not recommend anyone that I know to him. After my husband's surgery, he had to wait 2 hours for pain medicine. Then a different doctor discharged him on a Sunday and never called for a prior authorization for his medicine. He never got his pain medicine until late that Monday. He ran out a week after surgery and they called in his medicine 5 days later. He was in so much pain, he could barely walk. Hailey his assistant blamed my husband, when it was her fault! This was a total joke!!!
