Dr. Purohit is nothing short of a miracle worker. I was getting regular UTI’s caused by urinary retention from by several “strictures” in the urethra. I am immune-suppressed so any infection is dangerous for me and I was in the hospital a lot for these UTI’s that would then spread into other areas like my kidney. Dr. Purohit excised 7 cm of my urethra and rebuilt it with cells from my cheek. Absolutely miraculous. I haven’t had a UTI since the surgery 2 years ago and my urine stream is now strong where it was not before. In my research to find the right doctor for my gender affirmation surgery, I had always assumed, wrongly, that the doctor had to be a plastic surgeon. After my initial consultation with Dr. Rajveer Purohit, Director of Reconstructive Urology at Mt. Sinai, Icahn School of Medicine, I realized, this was an extremely limiting perspective. A surgeon who has earned his or her spurs performing often complex urogenital reconstructive surgeries has a far more deeper understanding of the organs involved from both a functional and a structural perspective that goes far beyond just their aesthetics. As it turned out, having undergone the bottom surgery under Dr. Rajveer and Dr. Miroslav Djordjevic, (Director of Belgrade Center for Genital Reconstructive Surgery), I feel, that was the best decision I had ever made. Life is so much more beautiful and authentic now.....! I highly recommend Dr.Rajveer to anyone seeking a urologist. He was able to fix a problem I had down there with ease and confidence. He is known to fix the most complex cases no matter what (I was referred to go to him because my other urologist said that Rajveer will be successful in resolving my issue and he was right!

Having had a wonderfully successful surgical procedure performed by Dr Purohit, I want to take the opportunity here to recommend his medical care. I had what is called a urethral stricture that was progressively getting worse. Unfortunately, it got to the point where I had to rush to the emergency room at Jacoby Medical Center after becoming unable to urinate in early August of this year. It was very painful and shocking. It took three nurses and two doctors to provide relief by finally getting a catheter through my urethra after some time. Thankfully, I was given a referral to the very same urologist - Dr Rajveer Purohit - recommended to me by a doctor I confided with about 18 months earlier. At my first visit to Dr Purohit's east side Manhattan office, like each following visit, I got to see him within 5 to 8 minutes of the appointed time. After taking what I think was a sonogram of my urethra, he showed me the segment of it that had narrowed tremendously. It was very concerning. On my second visit, on a whiteboard he had written out my surgical options, which he explained to me thoroughly. I opted for a buccal mucosal graft. My surgery was performed at Mt Sinai's Downtown Manhattan location. After two subsequent follow-up visits, I can say that my outcome was just as Dr Purohit predicted. There is absolutely no facial swelling from the buccal mucosal graft, and I can now, very thankfully, empty a full bladder in mere seconds, as opposed to the one or two minutes it took me earlier this year. Dr Purohit does not support Tottenham Hotspur. He's not perfect. What I found in seeing him though is a caring, thoughtful, very capable and amicable medical practioner. I highly recommend his urological services. Dr. Purohit is such a wonderful surgeon and definitely at the top of his speciality in gender confirmation surgery. Dr. Purohit was my surgeon when I had male to female gender confirmation surgery on Aug 14 2020, and I had the best experience of my life. He demonstrated a level of expertise, as well as sensitivity and concern for my well being that went above and beyond my expectations. Throughout my transition process, he was always available to answer questions and talk through any concerns. Through his bedside manner and professionalism, he took away any anxieties I had and made me feel very safe. The results are amazing! The dedication and the amount of work this doctor and his team goes through caring for their patients is one of the most remarkable things. I was fortunate enough to have gender confirmation surgery under Dr. Purohit almost 2 months ago. The work the he has done was remarkable and I am very pleased with the results he was able to do. Very happy with the results from my 2 urethroplasty surgeries with Dr Purohit. I thought he and his staff were very professional also. No complaints here at all. I would recommend him to anyone. Also, I had some issues with the nursing staff at Mount Sinai hospital after the first surgery and Dr Purohit took my complaint seriously. He resolved it for me before my next surgery. I'm a transgender patient. Horrid. Casual. Careless. Consultation for surgery was 10 minutes long. Office staff was similar in carelessness and without professionalism. Office staff was quick to scold and yell. Mocked for having published side effects from a pain medication (it seems it was my fault). I was promised two surgeries A and B. 12 hours before surgery the plan changed to B first and A later, but actually there was no plan for the A surgery, which I didn't know until my last post op appointment from surgery B. Somehow, that was supposed to be good enough. It's completely unacceptable. And now I'm stuck finding a new surgical team to make the corrections. Which I will do. Thanks but no thanks. I thought I was at The Best place in the USA for transgender surgery. I was wrong.

She told me I should have called to let them know I was late. Dr. Purohit is like no other, his passion and compassion is a truly felt! I have never been more comfortable or at easy with a doctor in my entire life. His level of communication, meeting of patient's needs, managing of patient's thresholds, setting of expectations, and being easily accessible to his patients is unparalleled. Both pre and post surgery attention is also the best I have ever experienced. If the opportunity presented itself to go back in time and reselect the surgeon for the biggest surgery of my life, I would wholehearted chose Dr. Purohit again. There probably isn't enough room here for me to say all the good things that I want to say about Dr. Rajveer S. Purohit , but I will surely try to make it fit. For 15 years I was struggling with a severe urethral stricture and had multiple prior surgeries to open it up with all of them resulting in only minor and temporary relief, with the stricture recurring and worsening with each attempt. Luckily I was referred to DR. Purohit the last time around. Dr. Purohit carefully assessed my stricture with dye studies and determined it was repairable. After an almost 5 hour reconstructive surgery, my stricture is gone and I am fully functional in every way. In addition to his exemplary skills, the Dr. is also caring and compassionate as displayed during my initial consultation when he took the time to get to know me and what my condition was forcing me to exclude from my life (all of which have been returned to me, BTW). He even used the whiteboard to illustrate my damaged tissues and how he planned to repair the condition, thus giving me a complete picture of what to expect. In addition, his office is well equipped and his staff is caring, efficient, competent and professional. I can't imagine anyone having a bad experience with this team. Dr. Purohit is my urologist and has performed two long and difficult surgeries on me to repair a stricture. He is extremely intelligent, highly educated, and a kind and good person. Most importantly, Dr. Purohit is a superb and caring surgeon with excellent judgment. I had a botched surgery in the past with a different doctor (now retired). My life has been changed for the better thanks to Dr. Purohit. An added benefit is the nice people who work in his office.

Probably the worst medical experience of my life. I was sent for a CT scan which I was told my insurance was covering in full and that it would be a "few quick scans." I arrived at the hospital and needed an IV with multiple rounds of dye injections. Had I known, I would have scheduled accordingly. I was later billed for $800 and my insurance told me they never cleared the CT scan in full with his office. His office offered no apology or compensation and I was stuck paying the bill in full.

I would never refer him to anyone!

After seeing many other doctors and having countless procedures, Dr. Purohit was the first to finally cure my urethral stricture.

I do NOT recommend this doctor. He was very cold and rude, not giving us time to ask questions. He rushed us out of the appointment not explaining the medical condition, nor providing info on the drug he prescribed. He provided no walk away information and his office management wasn’t any better. What a miserable office visit! Never again! A total waste of my time. ????????????????????

Nice enough doctor if a bit detached. Terrible office management. Expensive and doesn't take Medicare.

I found Dr Purohit through an Internet search when I was looking for urologists with extensive experience in complex urethral strictures. At the time, I was in constant discomfort and my life was consumed with staying close to a bathroom. Dr Purohit was very easy to talk to. His office has alIf you or a loved one have a urinary issue and need a great doctor, I highly recommend Dr Purohit. He gave me my life back.
