Dr. Phillip G Helding JR.

Went in with Post Partum, depression and untreated adhd. Chemical imbalances stress as new mom. He helped me more than he had to even became a talk therapist to let me vent when I had to.

I saw Dr Helding a few years ago and he was incredibly negligent and distasteful. I was on Medicaid and he repeatedly made comments reminding me how he's taking care of me next to free. Appointments were at most 5 minutes, any questions were not answered. 5 hospitalizations told him to rule out borderline personality disorder, he didn't. Instead he kept increasing my bipolar medications. Guess what? The medications were what were giving me issues. Hallucinating constantly and being a zombie. I lost my reading comprehension skills and vocabulary, took me 3 years to regain it. I had told him several times I think something is wrong with the medicine, my Mom came to an appointment to help me advocate for myself and he again increased medications. I was on 4 different mood stabilizers within a year, he quadrupled my dose of Lithium within a month. It got to the point i felt nauseous taking medications or even thinking of them, my body was trying to warn me of this and he just dismissed it. I've been off medication for 2 years - had he listened and ruled it out I wouldn't have lost two years of my life while under his care. I was apprehensive to leave a review but if I can prevent anyone else from experiencing this mistreatment I might as well try. He is objective and manages mental health very efficiently. He doesn’t speak a lot but what he says is meaningful. His staff is so excellent, especially Emerald. I have never had a call not returned. If you’re not looking for a doctor that is going to waste your time he is the best choice in the western suburbs.

Very Professional! Office Staff have always been very Nice and Accommodating! Doctor Helding I highly Recommend!!!

I sent this doctor an email about one of his patients I was trying to get help for. Unfortunately he FORWARDED THE EMAIL I sent him DIRECTLY TO THE PATIENT!!!!????!!

Very honest with me...which I need as I have trust issues...great sense of humor..which I love !! Very down to earth...will see you as many times as you need !! Always makes sure you are in a " good place " before you leave his office ❤❤

dr, helding . he is genius and you have to get used to that type of personality. get to the point with your symptoms and you will be prescribed the correct medicine. you wont be wasting time trying this and that. the ladies in the office are great as well. if you need extra time to talk he has therapists on staff.

I visitred Dr. Helding for PTSD and he was fabulous. I requested "no meds" and he said, "Okay. We can start that way and see how it goes." It went great, and I'm super grateful. Would highly recommend

Due to profound medical error this doctor mis diagnosed me with major depressive disorder. After later acquiring access to his notes he misrepresented everything. I came to his office after experiencing minor stress after my wife just gave birth To triplets. I also had longer work hours and my office was a two hour commute. Because of his corrupt behavior he chose to over diagnose me with absurd conditions even though I was normal on the GAF testing. He did not mention my standard “life stressors” at all. He did this all to prescribe me multiple medications that are known to interact with each other which I sustained significant brain damage. I am permanently disabled because of this man. These doctors make a killing on medication management patient visits and his decision destroyed my life.

Helding is the most unprofessional doctor I've ever seen. He doesn't care about his patients aka customers. He just looks at his computer and asks you the same questions and you leave after 5 minutes.

He helped me get the medicine but never let me finish talking and would cut you off.

A doctor brilliant beyond words, he knows medicine inside and out but most importantly he is a very good listener. Dr. Helding cares very much for his patients. Always trust an avid baseball enthusiast~ a good kind and caring doctor

Dr. Helding was warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and willing to help me. He worked with me based on my medication history, told me about my options, and prescribed me new medications. I'm so glad I made this appointment, because I ended up being nervous for no reason. I already feel much better. I don't understand the negative reviews on here. I think people have unrealistic expectations of their psychiatrist also being their therapist, life coach, or school counselor, but that's not their job. They are MDs, so their job is to assess your psychological health and manage medications you might need. Talk therapy typically comes from another, non-MD provider (PsyD, LCPC, social worker). If you walk into this office accepting this, you will not be disappointed. Also, most doctors chart on a laptop---it's been the industry standard for awhile now, and many medical groups require it.

I was very anxious about this appointment. After talking with Dr. Helding I felt a relief. He listened and asked questions. He was kind, friendly, and has a great sense of humor.

Dr. Helding disregards everything I talk with him about in previous meetings and has a habit of telling me my disorders either don’t exist or are simply not valid. He has been rude to me but also tells me that my therapist should “stay in her lane” when I bring her opinion up in our appointments. Doesn’t tell me what he is prescribing medications for and doesn’t tell me what he is diagnosing me with. Dr. Helding is not a doctor that speaks to you in detail. I feel rushed, and never have time to ponder about how I'm feeling or my situation. I wish he would spend time working with me on my situations but he boots you out after filling your prescriptions. How do you prescribe medication if you don't spend ANY time with your patient? I'm a busy person so the irresponsible part of me likes the fact of getting my meds and getting out. I wish he would reach out to help. He obviously is not that type of person too want to have detailed conversation. Isn't spending time with your patients to properly prescribe them the right medication part of being a psychiatrist? Sadly I'm frustrated and feel stuck with this guy. I suggest Salt Creek Therapy in Hindsdale. 83/Ogden. They spend 30-45 minutes to get detail and actually give you therapy and the medication for your best needs. I made an appointment with Dr. Helding, 2 weeks ago and I was told that if I cancel the appointment last minute I would be charged the full payment as the cancellation fee. By the way this doctors office don’t have any reminder services either, wow that’s the way to go! Today was the appointment, I was getting ready to leave and I get a call from the doctors office saying that the doctor has a meeting to attend and needs to cancel the appointment. I dint know what to say as I was waiting for this appointment for weeks as my son really needed to be seen by a doctor. I cancelled all my sons therapies for today’s appointment, and arranged the babysitter for my other kids, is this doctor and his staff aware of these arrangements that I made to come meet him today? I think I should charge the doctor for canceling on my autistic child’s appointment last minute. How come the doctor was not aware of this last minute meeting, that is so unprofessional of him, I couldn’t believe that someone could do this to my sick child. I would never want anyone to go through what I did today. I even asked the lady who called to cancel the appointment if she can ask the doctor to squeeze my sick child anytime soon, that’s when she said that the doctor won’t be able to see my son before the 2nd week of August. He is narcissist doctor who has no concern for his patient, all he wants is your money and reports are never submitted on time. He is rude if you ask him any questions or advice , he seems high on drugs. save your self. Office is disorganized and dysfunctional only need your money. Dr. Helding is one OF THE BEST psychiatrist's I've EVER seen in my whole lifetime!!!! He's soooooo amazing AND answers ALL questions you have IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The most "play dumb" doctor with no knowledge. Google on his tablet probably tells him what to say with the few words he does say and with a 4 minute session. Are you kidding me. I called other practices and they said that's so wrong should of been at least 25 to 30 for follow up appointments and an hour for first visit. I got 30 mins first time if that and 4 mins yesterday. He deals with people with mental health and has no care even laughs sometimes. Tried him twice won't a 3rd. Listen to all these reviews because people are saying the same things! He Was Straight to the point. I appreciated that. He was straight to the point with my Daughter she appreciated that also. Yes maybe 15min on follow up appointments but he uses his tablet to keep track of his patients medication. Our other Dr left his practice & Dr Helding could take us within a week.

Excellent...very easy to speak with Dr Helding and we get right to the point quickly. Highly recommend him.

We took my son to see this "doctor" and it was the worst experience. He had no competence in dealing with Aspergers/autistic spectrum patients. After 3 visits we dropped him. He had no clue as to how to diagnose and or work with our son. His best answer was to drug him up. He also presented himself in a very sloppy uncaring and unprofessional manner. I WOULD NOT recommend him to anyone.

Upon reading many reviews, I was apprehensive. After my appointments with Dr. Helding, I realize I am in the hands of a very skilled, professional and empathic Doctor who is out for my best interest. The negative reviews are basically people not understanding his way of assessing his patients for proper diagnosis. I am very blessed to be in his care; He is very professional, kind and pays close attention to me and my case. As a medical student, I aspire to emulate such qualities in the future ??

My son is a special needs adult and has been under Dr. Helding's care for the past 20 years. Before seeing Dr. Helding my son was having a lot of problems. Dr. Helding found the best low dose of medication to stabilize my son, and keep him well. We love Dr. Helding, though some criticize his demeanor, when it comes to medication, he is very knowledgeable! This doctor has been a God-send to our family. When seeking treatment, be aware that most medications take 30 days to fully take effect.

I have been seeing a psychiatrist for over 20 plus years and have never met a more incompetent doctor then Dr. helding. I've seen him three times now and each visit he doesn't look at me and just writes my RX's. On my initial visit he never got any background history like he's supposed to he just asked what meds I was taking and wrote the RX's and when I was leaving the office I looked at the RX's and he wrote them for the wrong dose. On my last visit he answered his cellphone and had them.

Do NOT see this psychiatrist. Dr. Helding answered the phone while I was mid-sentence in my session with him. In addition, he blindly threw medication at me and treated me as a guinea pig. I was clinically diagnosed as textbook anxiety disorder as well as ADD. He put me on an anxiety and ADD medication that interacted badly together and instead of realizing that when I had a bad reaction, he thought on a whim "perhaps you have bi-polar" and preceeded to put me on a strong antipsychot

Met with my son and Dr. Helding for the first time. Dr. stated he would have assessment forms sent to my address and have the office call for Computer Based Testing. He left the country on vacation after meeting with us. 2 weeks later I called his office about the forms, he was still out of town but the staff sent a note. Last week (5 weeks after initial appointment) I called again. The staff said he did not respond to their question on survey. I said he did not answer me either. RETIRE!

Dr.makes no eye contact with you or the child (the patient), stares down at tablet the whole time, and barely speaks to you (when he does speak it's very quietly and you wonder if he's speaking to himself). It's an extremely awkward exchange--when he's done he just stops talking, I don't know if we should get up and leave or if he might have something else to say. You expect him to say Alright, we'll see you in 3 months, have a great day, stand up and see you out. There's nothing like that.
