Dr. Peter Raphael

I am so grateful to have had Dr. Peter Raphael as my surgeon. He demonstrated so much care and thoughtfulness when discussing what I wanted, asking questions about aspects of what I wanted that it never would have occurred to me to say anything about. Every interaction we had showed how much he wanted to make sure that this surgery would leave me with the body I wanted, the real me. It was incredibly affirming even before surgery. He was patient and reassuring when I voiced anxiety or asked questions. I felt affirmed and accommodated at every step of the process. Seeing myself in the mirror for the first time post-op was better than I could have imagined. I cannot recommend Dr. Peter Raphael strongly enough, especially to other non-binary folks. Had a lower face lift and upper lip lift over a year ago and the more that time goes on, the more disappointed I am. It was definitely expensive, and there are no visible differences except scarring around my nose, and rather prominent scars and lumps behind my ears. Still have a double chin and very thin upper lip. I brought up to the Dr. That I was unhappy with my results and was told told that with my anatomy there was no real way to improve my jawline, which would have been great to know BEFORE THE SURGERY. Seemed real great before the surgery, but no support after. He came so highly recommended, but if I had the choice to do it again, I would absolutely not. At least not here or with him. Really saddened with the whole experience and outcome.

I love Dr. Raphael and his staff. I have had fantastic results. I feel as though he was not only able to correct another doctors' mistakes but he made me look "prettier"! If you have been searching for the best, you just found it!. I would not let anyone else touch my face, full stop.

From start to finis and from the staff to Dr. Rafael and the anesthesiologist, every single experience was amazing. My overnight nurse was seriously the best too! I am less than 2 weeks post op and already LOVE my results. Lipo and Tummy Tuck!

His work is pristine, especially his body sculpting. I don’t feel that he gets enough recognition for his BBL and body sculpting work, but it was perfection. The recovery process was easier because he is very smart about where he places incisions and does drainless lipo. Consequently, the process was much smoother than most other doctors. Wonderful doctor and facility. The pre op and post op nurses were phenomenal. Love my results!! The only thing that rubbed me a little wrong was how curt the front desk staff were. Everyone was extremely friendly but the woman who was taking my payment was cold. Overall I highly recommend !

I’ve been having surgery with Dr Raphael for 11 years. He’s genuinely the nicest surgeon I’ve ever met. He cares about his patients and he takes time to explain anything you may have questions about. There are numerous advantages to choosing him as your surgeon. Mainly he has his own facility so my costs were much lower for surgery. Consultations are free, and so are revisions. I expressed my expectations with having my procedure done with Dr. Raphael. I was made to feel very confident that he understood exactly what I wanted my outcome to be, and that it would be carried through thoroughly. Unfortunately that was not done and I was left feeling very underwhelmed with my results. I chose Dr. Raphael because he was highly recommended by so many of my peers in the trans community. After my consultation I was a little reluctant to have it done because he informed me he wouldn’t be able to perform the procedure without me having a scar, but I immediately disregarded any doubts I may have had because as I mentioned he’s very familiar with these types of procedures, as he is very experienced with dealing with trans patient’s. However not only is there still bone sticking out of my neck there is also an obnoxious scar that is also left as a constant reminder. Met him for the first time during my consultation before setting a date for FFS surgery. He was very straight forward and set my expectations very appropriately. His honesty in what i needed now and later and why he didn't recomend doing certain things at this time was explained and made perfect sense. It is obvious he cares for his potential patients happiness and wants to make sure that he gives the best possible results. His patient coordinator, Leslie, is a wonderful woman and very easy to get along with and talk to about anything concerning your procedures. This surgery center across the hall was excellent (Surgery Center of Texas). The doctor is excellent (Dr. Peter Raphael). The nursing staff was excellent (Each one was kind, patient, persistent and present). If the review stopped here, I would give them 5 stars. They are the reason this review caries stars at all. The business practices scare the living crap out of me. This business entity is rapidly turning into an Insurance 'bait and switch' to Cash group. I was there for an Orchiectomy, with cash on hand, plus insurance that would approve the operation. They recommended I have insurance process and cover the operation (that was a mistake that cost me 4 months of physical swelling pain tolerance for which they were not very sympathetic). In addition for those considering anything other than botom surgeries, they have a 2 year standing policy to NOT bill to insurance any BA or Facial surgeries, even if you have an insurance contract verified that covers it. If you are a cash only patient, you would do well with Dr. Peter Raphael, hands down. They are the reason an otherwise 5 star review is docked to 2 stars. They are split into 2 entities once you enter the front door, the "Med Spa on the left", and the "Surgery Center of Texas on the right". The remaining of this review is regarding the Med Spa's business practices. If you have insurance to cover your transgender procedures, go somewhere else (I've found a few others in Texas and California, I can travel to and still spend TENS of THOUSANDS less money because they are in network). Their communication speed and consistency was very lacking, I would often wait up to two weeks at a time past major milestones for return of phone calls or emails, and wouldn't get follow up information until I reached out to them. They misrepresented my max out of pocket as my deductible, and then quoted me an insurance cost higher than the cash price, then lied to me stating they 'just called' my insurance company to verify the data, as my insurance company keeps detailed records on all correspondence and told me of each time they were contacted by them. They 'accidentally' emailed me someone else identifiable medical insurance information (a HIPAA violation for certain, as a white hat, I could have gone to town on that persons info). They had unfortunate issues processing my cash payment for 2 months that required careful banker investigation and resending of the funds. At preop, they did not have my present records ready, I made calls in the patient room to resend while waiting. They attempted to have me SIGN A CONTRACT TO PREVENT ME from 'member filing' the cash paid procedures to my preapproved medical insurance. They did so during the pre-op visit within a bundle of rapid read and sign paperwork. I did not agree, and manually altered the language before I signed, and had them sign and return me a copy of my altered version. I cannot express this enough, THIS IS A TRAP, DO NOT SIGN IT!!! It bars insurance companies from pursuing claims information on your behalf. It is the unfortunate outcome of medical providers not successfully negotiating with insurance companies and instead retreating into their own rabbit holes of cash. There are, however, many medical providers whom are much better at navigating the insurance markets. These other providers must be rewarded for their success, seek them out. However, this contract also altered the procedure of the Orchiectomy from Medically Necessary (as preapproved by my insurance) to Cosmetic in terminology with their Surgery Center. As such, they refused to produce a medical insurance billing statement with CPT Codes and Procedures to me so that I can complete the medical billing claim process on my own. I requested medical records, they promised 14 business day return (2 weeks and 4 days), and they stated I could get the records from the Med Spa and the Surgery Center in one release form, and fee. I have stretch marks and cannula marks all over my body from my ankles to my wrists. He made me look 15 years older in a matter of minutes. He does not use good judgment. Dr. Raphael did two surgeries on me (breast, lipo, scar revision/removal). I am happy with the outcome. The staff is great and there’s many options for payment plans. Concerning liposuction, it takes up to a year to really see the final results.

I really really tried to like my nose, it was a revision, so I had him go in and make it smaller. I have thick skin, so I endured a lot of swelling for a good 1.5 year-2 years. I didn’t complain about that. He lied about taking cartilage from one area, and instead took it from cartilage that was used from the 1st surgery that helped build up one side of my nose, because it was naturally wanting to collapse. The tip he made from the cartilage is not directly on the tip, but to the side. Looks off

Dr. Peter Raphael is THE BEST! I am so happy that my girlfriend took me to him. I am extremely happy with my top surgery results, I have Pectus Excavatum, so my chest was a doozy. I can't BELIEVE the nipple placement he got, he is a true master artist! I got my surgery in September of 2017 and it's been around 7 months, my scars are flat and disappearing more & more! (Of course I have been doing my part and massaging my scars in the appropriate way, but thanks to his work, my scars are very minimal, he did such clean work.) Good bedside manner but skirts around direct questions. Does not listen to your concerns or wishes. Work is subpar. Going to need breast revision. He cut away too much tissue, leaving me asymmetrical. Have consulted w other surgeons who all agree I need revision. Charged me for some Lipo that he did not do. When I confronted him, he said he'd do it later. Very sad and disappointed he disregarded my wishes. He does not listen or explain. Don't go here.
