Narcissist who is more concerned with the sound of his voice than your health. I drove 3.5 hours each way for this appointment. He did not ask me about my condition or bother looking at the extensive records I brought or even examine my back for examination. He based his opinion on a single CT scan rather than the symptoms and history. No interest at all in my background or past history. He lectured for about 20 minutes about stuff I can easily look up on Google. He did there was nothing he can do for me and then asked what I expected when I questioned his opinion. Saw Dr shin today...was not impressed at all. And tells me there is nothing he can do and that I have spinal muscular atrophy and that the muscle fibers that I have damaged won't ever come back and that I will have reoccurring issues for the rest of my life. But offered no options for pain management....i started going to the Cleveland clinic in July and since then I feel like I have been treated like a number...I had heard nothing but good things about the Cleveland clinic but have seen the exact opposite...if things don't change soon I will be leaving and finding doctors who don't treat me like a number. I have been seeing Dr. Shin for a few years now and he is a good doctor. He did a procedure on my knee (which I have had 5 previous surgeries and a partial knee replacement on) to help with the pain that I still get. Within an hour of being home I was able to walk up the steps, kneel and even take a walk with my daughter. I cannot thank him enough for giving me my life back and being able to enjoy things I haven't for so long. I have been seeing Dr. Shin for a few years now and he is a good doctor. I had my first visit with Dr. Shin today and I have to say he was so kind and attentive. Explained everything I need to know about my condition and how we would approach a solution. Dr spent 10 minutes to review 15 years of chronic pain. I had short, concise summaries of all mris and scans and an injection history. He didn’t even take them from my hand. Reviewed only 1 mylegram. I have chronic back pain and have been through years of physical therapy and other treatments without relief. He basically said there’s no reason for my back to hurt though I have 11 bulging discs. Referred me to 2 week pain management program and said there was nothing he could do. I drove 5 hours for this appointment and I’m sure the bill will be hefty. Waste of time and money. Who can afford to stay in a hotel and attend a 2 week medical program? I can’t even imagine the cost of that. I have cochleae implants and could hear most of what he was saying. I told him that repeatedly but he just continues to ramble on not facing me and unintelligible. I do not recommend this doctor. I’ve been to Cleveland clinic for my hearing and had high expectorations. Let down.

Dr. Shin felt my back and had me raise my arms and turn to each side. He told me there was not anything he could do and I would just have to live with the pain. He said it is all muscle. I left crying. The new doctor said yes my muscles are tight but caused by nerve damage. Thankfully I have found a doctor that is going to help me. Not through the Cleveland Clinic. I would not take my cat to him.

Quack told me I will have to just live with pain had back surgery told me nothing he could do live with pain till my brain rewired its self. No eye contact when talking to me told me I will just have to live with pain rest of my life

I was referred to the Spine Institute from the Cleveland Clinic - Main Campus ER for follow up after a brief admission. The staff were friendly and made me feel at ease. The doctor looked at my lab results online the entire time that he was with me. Didnt examine or even touch me for the entire time that I was in with him. He gave me drugs and said I should do aquatic PT and sent me on my way with a follow up in months with his Physicians Assistant? Seriously? Ultimately, after finding a physician that DID take the time to examine and listen to me, it was discovered that I had gotten a very serious autoimune syndrome Thank you Dr Shin...big time miss on your part. Dr Shin is an excellent doctor. After 2 months of unknown reason for pain, I was able to get in the same day. He diagnosed my issue that 2 ER visits did not do. He was able to read my CT scan and find the reason for the pain I have been in for 2 month. I will suggest him to anyone that needs pain management. Thank you Dr. Shin!

Dr. Shin has been my Pain Specialist since 2013. I have lumbar and cervical areas with fusion, and had pain MD interventions since 1995 by different highly rated specialists. Dr. Shin listens carefully and has performed trigger point, epidural, and radiofrequency ablations on both areas, as is appropriate and I had the most relief from his procedures. Use the Wooster facility. This outpatient facility is efficient, the nurses caring and are expert in IV insertion. No anesthetic hangover.

In my opinion, unless seeking help for ACUTE PAIN ( pain of less than 3 months) or TREATMENT WITH OTHER MODALITIES (example: surgery, injections, etc...) don't expect relief from pain. I found no help for chronic pain. The discussion centered around getting off existing medication for chronic pain and living with the pain.
