Paul Carl Peterson

I am so thankful for Dr Peterson and his office staff! He has been great every step of the way...from his staff who all are kind and helpful, to taking time to explain things to me, listening to and answering all my questions, and keeping a great sense of humor in our visits! I wouldn't trust anyone more to perform surgery on my brain!!! He is knowledgeable and confident which gave me a sense a great confidence in his expertise! Thank you Dr Peterson! And thank you to his whole office!

I had good results with Dr. Peterson. He told me what needed to be done. He kept me out of pain and he never tried to make me have surgery. Everything was explained thoroughly. All I can say is he is a great drto me.

I would not recommend Dr Peterson. As other reviewers have stated he has the absolute worse attitude of any physician I have ever encountered. He is very condescending and basically told me how to feel. I have never felt so mistreated in the way he spoke and his demeanor. As a patient you are scared when going to the Dr. for any issue at least I am- since I have had neck surgery in the past and I am having issues I haven't experienced prior. I look to their expertise, but I will let my neck fall off before I ever go back to this Dr. There are other Neurosurgeons out there and, in my opinion, I would recommend going to someone else.

Dr. Peterson acts like he's just going thru the motions. Was told I have scar tissue and that's it. When he could have recommended to numerous alternative methods.

I don’t know much, I’m sure I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for dr petterson . You can’t have a successful brain surgery and talk about bed side manners in my opinion. The job these surgeons do is extraordinary, it’s not something you just clock out from the office staff was always great to me , and my wife. I’m hopeful I’ll get to show my appreciation for the job that was done I’m home with my wife and kids , and i was able to be with my father as he passed , because of dr Peterson. Not a patient there but was returning a call about a mutual patient and whoever I talked to was very rude. Who ever left the message on the voicemail was rude also.

Sorriest Doctor my husband has ever seen if I could give no stars I would!!! My husband has had nothing but extreme pain sense he had neck surgery!!! They put a cage in his neck and put a screw in sideways and he is miserable!!! We will never go back to him and the hospital staff were very rude all they wanted to do was stand in there little area and talk!!! Dr. Peterson operated on my head I had bi-lateral subdural hemotomas since the surgery I have done great would recommend Dr Peterson to anyone

He acted like he didn’t even see my broken back and neck. He does not care

I have been in misery for years. I had 6 discs in my lowers back instead of 5 creating not enough blood flow. How funny that 8 years ago a Neuro at UT couldn't find that and fix it. My pain Dr. Decided to send me to a different one because it was getting worse and he sent me to Dr Peterson. Because I have bi-lateral hips, knees, and a shoulder replacement, I also have a spinal cord stimulator, I cannot have an MRI. So Dr Peterson ordered a CT Scan with contrast and he said it was plain as day what was wrong. As soon as my insurance approved the surgery he performed it, and I must say perfectly. Now I am a 57 year old man so I don't expect to be 21 again. But when you can wake up and immediately walk and your wife says "your standing up straight" something you have not done in years, that's awesome. My pain level has gone from a 7-8 with full pain meds. Now we have cut them in half and I am at a 3-4. I do still have a bad day occasionally but not near as many as I use to. Dr. Peterson done my second neck surgery a few months ago and I am about 80 percent pain free!!! The first surgery, from another doc, was horrible and was worse after surgery. Kudos to Dr. Peterson and his assistant for the relief I have!!!! Will recommend you to everyone!!!!

Dr. Peterson was far from a kind doctor. His first words to me were "I don't know what you are doing here. You have a headache". This comes after a visit to the hospital and ct scan which confirmed it was not a headache. He already had in his head before he walked into the exam room that he wasn't going to try to help me. I June of 2015 did a complicated aneurysm clipping surgery on me...He is a very gifted surgeon and I trust him with my life and he is the only neurosurgeon I would go to or recommend to everyone... Thank you Dr for helping me

I was 39 year old March 29th 2001, I had a bad horse back riding accident that landed me in ICU for many days. I eventually was able to come home..for the next 5 months I suffered continuous severe headaches. During the next 5 months, Holston Valley Hospital in East Tn. I was a patient at least 3 times a week! They wrote me every pain prescription on the market and still nothing helped. Holston Valley decided I was "crazy" or "pill hunting". They sent me to a Neuro-psychologist , his name was Ted Hagan.On July 24th 2001, I told him my whole story..In turn Ted called Dr. Paul Peterson that very same day. Within 2 hours Dr. Peterson had ordered an MRI stat! And there it was an 8 mm size Cerebral Aneurysm that had been asymptomatic(dripping blood) since March 29th.... On July 25th Dr. Paul Peterson saved my life! He performed the Craniotomy clipping of this monster that would eventually killed me if I had kept going to Holston Valley Hospital! Dr. Peterson gave me life to see my boys grow up and Graduate College! He was and still is my HERO! Dr. Peterson, has operated not only myself but my sister, my son and my husband. We've all done great and have recovered quickly. I would recommend him to anyone needing spinal surgery.

When it was discovered that I had a huge meningioma, I was immediately referred to Dr. Peterson who saw us the very next day. He wanted me on steroids for a week to reduce swelling and I was scheduled for a craniotomy the next week. This man saved my life as my tumor was pressing on the brain. Even though I had only known him for a week, he performed a successful craniotomy on me.

I really like Dr. Peterson. He has done spinal surgery for me two times now and both times he has done a great job. He explained everything to me and listened when I spoke or had a question.

He was excellent and I highly recommend him.His office staff was friendly and very helpful.He answered all our questions and concerns.He shared lots of information.

The three months of follow up care after my back surgery in December 2015 was nothing short of terrible. Peterson will tell you one thing and his assistant will tell you something completely different. At the end of the three months after my surgery I was still in a lot of pain and was told by Peterson that's that. No checking to make sure my disk had not compressed again, which can happen, just that's that. Do yourself a favor and find a surgeon who cares about the patient. Peterson has a massive God complex on top of an inability to listen to what the patient actually says. If you question him, he snaps while whining that he has 20 years experience in his field. He needs to go back to school to learn how to effectively deal with patients' concerns and questions. The word "doctor" means to teach from Latin roots, but Peterson acts like he doesn't want to waste his time explaining anything to his patients.

I only got to interact with him after emergency surgery and have found him to patiently respond and thoroughly explain answers to my questions. I am indebted to his ecpertise and skill. His assistant has been very helpful, as well, with a caring bedside manner. They seem to make a good team.
