Excellent surgeon. Super bedside manners. Explains the problems to his patients meticulously. Always smiles and happy. Never grumpy. Will refer him to any one. Very knowledgeable about his specialty.

4 surgeries on my sister one of which put her totally helpless. Seems there was a pinched nerve in the 3rd surgery hence the 4. Still had severe back pain. Another doctor has inserted a stimulator which has made her pain free. I need surgery but I will never do it after seeing my sister go through this over and over. What a quack!

I gave this doctor my son's life and he used his blessed hands to give our son back to us, God Bless You Paul!!! And thank you and Jesus!!!!!!

Dr. Detwiler was highly recommended by a very reliable source. I went with great confidence in him due to the recommendation. During one of my visits prior to surgery, Dr. Detwiler claimed that I’d never need surgery again for this problem. After the surgery was over and I was in recovery, the nurse told me that the doctor had an emergency meeting and will call me later that day to discuss the surgery. I was in extreme pain while in recovery. Same pain as I had before surgery but much much much worse. I awaited the call back from Dr. Detwiler, but he never called. I called his office and asked to speak to the Dr. and they just asked what was wrong, I told them and emphasized that I wanted to talk with the Dr. I called several times over the next few weeks with no avail. Then I was told that the Dr. would do nothing else for me and they referred me to a pain management Dr. He asked that I get an MRI done and it had to be done at the hospital because the place I had it done before didn’t produce good images. They were good enough for him to do surgery. I finally saw Dr. Detwiler at my 6 week check up. He claimed that his people NEVER told him that I wanted to talk to him; that’s is problematic. He looked at the MRI and told me that he needed to get a CT Myelogram which would be much clearer. I had that done and re-visited Dr. Detwiler. He told me that if my pain persisted I will need another surgery and that leg pain was easy to fix. If it was easy to fix, why didn’t he do it right the first time. I had a similar surgery done 5 years earlier in Dallas by Dr. Gill. I contacted Dr. Gills office and set up an appointment to see him. Surgery was immediately scheduled. I am now pain free 8 days after Dr. Gills surgery. If Dr. Detwiler is the best that Tyler has, then I caution anyone in having surgery done by ANY doctor in Tyler.

I wish I could give 0 stars. This Dr was extremely unprofessional and had a serious god complex. He incorrectly diagnosed me and insisted it was all in my head or that I was just a hormonal women. He barely glanced at my scans and wouldn’t listen to anything I had to say. He finally agreed to a specific test but then he didn’t order it correctly so it was useless. The Drs office then refused to see me or return my calls and black balled me with other drs he was affiliated with. After becoming deathly ill I was able to be seen by a very compassionate and competent doctor that accurately diagnosed multiple serious genetic disorders. I guess I should be thankful that he didn’t push for any type of surgery knowing what I do now or I might have been left with serious long lasting complications. I am glad that he has been able to help other patients but I wish that he could humble himself and realize that he is not aware of every medical condition out there and not immediately discount someone’s symptoms. I had surgery done by Dr. D 15 yrs ago and have been fine. I trust him. Dr. D is to the point, he doesn’t play around. I just want to get well again, so I’m back seeing the best doctor.

Referred by pain management doctor to neurosurgeon I had previously seen. Dr. Detwiler explained the results of my MRI and made suggestion of neurostimulator instead of major back surgery. He is very professional, friendly and would not release me until my back had completely healed.

I have known Dr. Detwiler for 20 plus years and have been a patient for 10 years. He is an excellent surgeon and a good man. He has done two surgeries on me and I am very satisfied. The aftercare is very satisfactory, pain was minimal.

Dr Detwiler rescued me from excruciating Neck PAIN several years ago.I now live a Pain Free Life.Thank You so much Dr Detwiler.

DR DETWILER VERY NICE AND EXPLAINED WHAT WAS WRONG, OFFICE STAFF EXCELLENT IN SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS, EXPLAINED THE COST AND WHAT WAS NEEDED TO DO BEFORE SURGERY. SURGERY WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL AND NOT COMPLICATIONS. WOULD HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED DR DETWILER.

I’m upset and frustrated after a back and forth with insurance and doctor’s stuff. My insurance told me did not approve a disco gram after asking why they advice me that doctor did not want to specifie why in such a short time also insurance said that all they needed is an explanation and doctors nurse said that that doctor does not do that. My insurance adviced me to seek another doctor if this one refuses to help me which it will take another 6 to 8 weeks before something is done to help me.

He did my dads surgery and dad had excellent results, so I let him do my neck surgery. I had lost the use of my right hand and was quickly losing the use of and feeling in my left arm. After correcting my spinal stenosis I immediately regained use of my right hand, and over a 2 week period the nerves in my left arm healed and the feeling came back. After 6 weeks I could do anything I wanted.

Didn't have the opportunity to meet this doctor because after trying to schedule an appointment with him for two weeks without ever getting past the answering service I gave up. Nobody in the office seems to care to schedule the referrals that come their way. They work only half days and no doctors are available on Fridays. Maybe your un-ruptured aneurysm can wait. Ended up going to Baylor in Dallas, better reviews on their neurosurgeons anyway. Baylor is "full-on" 6 days a week. Didn't have the opportunity to meet this doctor because after trying to schedule an appointment with him for two weeks without ever getting past the answering service I gave up. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Detwiler for saving my life in 2015. There are not enough words to describe his patience and understanding. If there were a higher rating than 5 he would get a 100.

I would never recommend this quack/hack and pathological liar to operate on anything. He should lose his licence.

I had sever stenosis of L2, L3 and L4. Dr. Detwiler was upfront with me about the risks of surgery. He performed a laminectomy. It corrected the problem. 6 weeks out I am pain free and have resumed my normal life. I highly recommend Dr. Detwiler.

Would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.

So far very good. I believe he has diagnosed my problem and a solution. I will see after the next procedure.

Dr. Detwiler is an excellent physician! He saved my 16 year olds life and I will be forever grateful!!! He was professional, caring and kind towards us through the whole ordeal. My husband and I truly believe God put Dr. Detwiler in our lives and we are so blessed from the experience!!!!

Both my husband and I are extremely pleased with Dr. Detwiler. He did back surgery on me several years ago and I have done great. I wanted my husband to see Dr. Detwiler when he started having chronic neck pain.thinking it was probably from a previous neck surgery. We had tried several procedures with no long lasting results. Dr. Detwiler's diagnosis was right on and my husband has been very satisfied.and pain free.

Dr. Detwiler came highly recommended from other physicians in Tyler, TX. I waited 3 mo to see him and then he used an MRI that was a year old and did a quick cursory exam. He announced injections were needed even after I kept telling him it was not my back, but my hip. I went through 3 injections with no relief. After 3 mo Detwiler orders new MRI for both hip & back. Then he finds the hip is the problem. At this point, I was furious and he did try to rectify the problem but too little too late

Initial visit was fine. Inappropriate comments were made regarding another physician which included personal remarks. Due to an emergency visit 2 other doctors became involved and he was upset. Both doctors performed a total of 3 surgeries. Ego outweighed how he made us feel. Without looking at final scan results he wanted the last life saving procedure reversed. The patient made a full recovery!

Dr. D has given me my life back twice. I have bilateral Trigeminal Nueralgia. He preformed a left and right side MVD I woke up from the right side 100% pain free, and I have 50% less pain on the left. He told me it would be about a year before I was pain free, because the nerve has to heal. Dr. D was straight forward with me since the beginning, he really is an amazing surgeon, I tell everyone if they ever need a nuerosurgeon to call Dr. D

One Dec. 26th 2003 I had a terrible headache, then a stroke, that resulted in my being care flighted to ETMC Tyler, Texas from Fairfield, Texas GOD directed my husband to this Hospital, because God knew Dr. Detwiler was there and one of 2 Doctors who had pioneered AVM's. He and God directing his hands, saved my life .I had 3 strokes, and 4 Brain surgeries....in a 6 week period. this Dec. will be 13 years ago, and I would like to Thank Dr. Detwiler for his help but I do not know him

He was very attentive and listened to my complaints. He seemed to truly care about and made recommendations that were specific to my needs and conservative.

His genuine concern of the patient and the results of the surgery yields a bedside manner that puts the patient at ease. Never a doubt of concern of his skills. He did not push for surgery, rather let the patient make the decision. In summary, what a great doc and what a great guy.
