Horrible, very rushed, walked away as I was trying to ask him questions.

Dr.Wong left me well informed about my nerve conduction issues.
Dr. Wong was very quick and detailed. I understood perfectly what he was telling me. Very succinct.

Professional and seems knowledgeable. Just very rushed and not given much time to ask and answer questions -- he was in and out in under 10 minutes and the whole visit felt very rushed!! (This was my second visit with Dr. Patrick Wong) Today was my 4th visit with Dr. Patrick Wong. As per the last few he was very rushed and didn't take much time to look back at my history with him. Because my symptoms have been slowly improving over the last 3 months he told me to just keep doing what I was doing and I would be completely better in 1 month. (He told me the same thing = that I would be better in 2 months about 8 months ago!). He looked at the same MRI he has seen for 3 visits. On our last visit he had said maybe surgery was my next option, but I told him I wasn't ready. This time he said the MRI clearly showed no disc hernia with nerve impingement. I had to remind him I had a left L3-L4 herniated disc according to the MRI. He then said Ok, yes but it was not impinging a nerve and my symptoms were from inflammation - so surgery was not an option. Basically his diagnosis and proposed time to recovery have been variable and inaccurate multiple times since I have seen him. I think that Dr. Wong is very used to the routine broken bones and disc hernias he can see on X-rays and MRIs. When he sees someone like me - who doesn't fit the mold of pain and he can't find an exact cause - he just says "Well you will be fine". I'm ok with a doctor telling me that he doesn't know or understand exactly what is going on. But I believe that doctor should then use his conscience to spend extra time and refer a patient to someone else that might be able to help them. Dr. Wong seems more interested in getting through his day quickly than worrying about more complicated problems. He may have too many patients scheduled, but unless you have a very obvious problem I would go see someone else. Professional and seems knowledgeable. I’m sure he is excellent at what he does however his people skills were non existent during my visit. Explain what you are doing first, and what the patient can expect to feel. Most importantly, warn the patient that you are about to begin testing.

Based on my experiences over the years and many and varied injections for joint related osteoarthritis, Dr. Wong appears to be an expert at what I have seen him do and experienced - and that is related to techniques of injection (even including Platelet Rich Plasma at one point). It is difficult to imagine someone better at technique. Highest marks ! It took 2 weeks to get an appointment, only to spend under 5 minutes of time with the doctor who didn't feel the need to really ask me how I was doing or what was wrong. Checkin was simple and easy, the assistants were helpful and gracious. When Dr. Wong came into the room, I explained to him my pain. 2 months since the initial injury. Slowly recovering but seeking out an alternative expert's perspective-- that's why I turned to Monterey Spine. He glanced over the paperwork I filled out and told me to get an x-ray which I did in the other room. I then came back to the room and waited. He entered and when he went to check the computer, the x-ray wasn't ready to view so he left immediately. Came back a few minutes later and when the x-ray came back inconclusive he told me he thought I had a slipped disk or scoliosis and needed an MRI. I repeated my initial suggestion which was that it was a ligament sprain, he jumped to conclusion with an MRI. I had to grab his attention to get him to listen to me and he didn't even ask me to lift my shirt to see my spine. He didn't inspect me thoroughly. He checked my body for a total of maybe 20 seconds asking if I had a tingling sensation down my leg due to where the pain stemmed in my hip area. I told him that my hip had rotated a bit out of place since my previous adjustment at the chiropractor and so my body was a bit out of whack (I had a bit of a limp). From viewing the X-ray, he crossed off that I don't have scoliosis but insisted I had a slipped disk so he recommended an MRI. I was informed that the MRI would cost me $750. I had the appointment 4 days later for the MRI but had to wait a total of 2 weeks before getting any information regarding the MRI. The MRI came back that I don't have a slipped disk, and he didn't agree or deny that I had sprained my sacroliac. I could have gotten up and left which would have left me empty handed but instead, I asked him what I ought to do and he asked me what I wanted. I thought maybe I should get physical therapy or if there were any anti-inflammatories I could take to reduce the inflammation and as a result the pain. I had to ask him what places he suggested in the nearby area and he signed off on an "prescription strength Advil". A month of waiting in pain (healing slowly without his assistance) for some Advil and $810 dollars less in my pocket, I thought. "You know at least I could put my mind to rest that nothing sinister was at play." Then I get a "Thank you" bill in the mail for $34.07 of supposed balance after they were conversing with my insurance company. I'm not one to complain and I'm not the one to voice my opinions as if this was a yelp review, but that bill in the mail really grinds my gears. Piece of advice to Dr. Wong, listen to the patients, make eye-contact, really take the time to inspect the patients manually before relying on technology to do the job for you. I don't know Dr. Wong's medical background and education, but maybe it's my fault for not doing my research to find a doctor that suits my needs and helps to alleviate pain and suffering. The moral of the story, I'm the one who feels like an idiot here. I have a full-time job with health-care so the bill would have been $2,412.00 without insurance. (fun fact) Thank you for listening to my Ted talk. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment, only to spend under 5 minutes of time with the doctor who didn't feel the need to really ask me how I was doing or what was wrong. … More

Dr. Wong is the first doctor many people see here, and he's obviously overbooked as the visits are rushed. He also isn't great at interacting with people, so it's difficult to get questions answered. He seemed to me generally knowledgable. However, having fewer patients and improving interactive skills would help.
Do not see Dr. Wong! He will not give you pain meds! he refused to give me my oxycodone, Norco, Soma, and valium. he tried to give me PT and told me to exercise. he claimed that other medications would treat my pain but they don't work. I have lower back and neck pain for years and have taken these for years. I don't want to be weaned off. I need these meds. I'm not a drug addict. he checked up on my prescriptions in the database and required a drug screen
This doctor's social skills are appalling. He wouldn't acknowledge my presence when I accompanied my husband to his appointment to review his MRI. When I would ask questions, he would look at my husband & answer to him only. He told my husband that his bulging disk was from his age (47) & not from his injury from work. My husband never complained of back pain before. When I shared my concern of his treatment plan, he told my husband to not base his decision off of "her". (Referring to me)
I saw Dr. Wong for a soft tissue injury to my wrist. He was thorough and efficient with additional diagnostics, which were inconclusive. He clearly explained my options (details of the procedures, costs, prognosis). I elected for a PRP injection. I found Dr. Wong to be both pragmatic and caring. I appreciated him contacting me to check on my condition after the procedure. Happily, the procedure significantly improved my condition, but even if it hadn't, I would still highly recommend Dr. Wong.
