These disabilities may arise from conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system such as neck and back pain, sports injuries, or other painful conditions affecting the limbs, such as carpal tunnel syndrome. The physiatrist has expertise in the appropriate use of therapeutic exercise, prosthetics (artificial limbs), orthotics and mechanical and electrical devices.

UPDATE: March 14th: We just received another bill from the University Hospital. This time the $10,000 bill has been reduced to around $60.00. The billing process has been extremely confusing. I am certainly happy we did not go to collections and that the bill was adjusted, but the journey to get here was arbitrary. UPDATE: March 2nd 2023: I am now several months out from my visit with Dr. Foye and I feel obligated to update & modify my review. First, Dr. Foye is warm, kind, takes his time with you, and very knowledgeable about tailbone pain. However we have run into several issues with his office and with the University Hospital since visiting there and I will detail the problems below: 1. The hospital tried to bill my insurance after clearing communicating with us the price to see Dr. Foye without insurance. I've paid the agreed amount (in the neighborhood of $1,000.00). This was the understood (and even says in our contract with them) total amount. 2. We have every month since November received a bill from the University Hospital indicating that we actually owe them $10,000.00. The university is threatening to turn us over to a collections agency if we do not pay. 3. Foye’s office workers are very hard to reach. It always takes several calls and messages to get them. 4. When we do reach them, they assure us it’s a mistake and to ignore. Yet, the papers we get still say we will go to collections. Apparently the various departments within the University Hospital do not communicate. We have yet to get resolution and we still do not understand why our insurance was brought into the equation. As it relates to my relief, I unfortunately did not receive any benefit from the injections. However, I’m confident most people do find relief through Dr. Foye’s approach. I will continue to update this review as things play out. Original Review Below: I’m thankful to have found Dr. Foye. I’ve been in pain for several years, seen many different doctors and none of them could diagnose or address my tailbone pain. Dr. Foye not only diagnosed me properly, but he spent time with me helping me understand the path ahead. He is compassionate, warm, and never made me feel rushed or dismissed. Time will tell if the injections worked, but I’m very hopeful.

Dr. Foye was the first doctor of many who understood my coccyx pain and took each and every step he could to not only help me understand it, but to successfully treat it. His guidance and treatment changed my life. I have a dislocated/unstable coccyx, and yearly injections are a godsend. He is thorough, patient, receptive, and generous with his time and expertise. I genuinely wish all my doctors and specialists were of Dr. Foye's caliber. One of two of the most exceptional doctors I have ever been treated by in my 53 years.

Like many of his patients, I flew in from out of state to see Dr. Foye. I had seen numerous other doctors over 2+ years in an effort to find answers to my tailbone pain. After reviewing the information I submitted, and ordering his own x-rays, he diagnosed the issue and initiated treatment. His explanation and treatment approach make perfect sense. Dr. Foye, and his staff (including the x-ray department) accommodated my tight time schedule, but did not rush the evaluation or treatment process and answered all of my questions. Dr. Foye is not only a recognized expert in his field, he is very approachable and clearly cares very much about individual patient care - a rare combination. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Foye seems to be very knowledgeable on tailbone issues. However, he has only one trick and he’s trying to sell it to all patients: it’s steroid injections. He would always try to lure you into doing an injection even if it’s not helpful for you. When I saw him from out of state and we did the sit-stand Xray, I had a lot of doubts that the injection could be helpful to me. Especially that I had already done one before. Yet he kept convincing me that his injection is different than others and it could benefit me. Anyway I agreed with him and went ahead with the injection. And sure enough I got zero benefit out of it. And now I have to deal with the gigantic bills that are coming from his billing office. I just received an $8.6k bill after I already paid $600 on the spot before I did the injection and my insurance paid them another $400. Isn’t $1000 enough for a simple procedure that took less than 15 minutes?! When does this greed end?! This is not to mention his completely disorganized and unprofessional staff, and the very messy and dirty clinic. I really regret flying across the country to see him. This review is years overdue, but I'm writing it now as I was looking up Dr. Foye's info for a friend. I had terrible coccyx pain years ago and he did one of those injection treatments (I don't recall the formal name, but everyone was wearing x-ray protective covering). Anyway, 15 years later I'm still pain free in that area.

I came all the way from South Carolina to see Dr Foye! I have never met a more compassionate knowledgeable Doctor Who was willing to spend time to explain what my condition was. He found a spur on the end of my tail bone that the Mayo Clinic did not even see! He gave me a nerve ablation which eliminated the pain on the tip of my tailbone. Thank you Dr Foye

Like most of Dr. Foye's patients, I found myself in his office after seeing multiple doctors and almost not believing that anyone would understand the magnitude of my horrific pain, nor found the source of it. Dr. Foye was the very first to listen to me and to examine me. Looking at the images brought by me of MRIs he immediately noticed both: abnormalities in my coccyx and lack of image of coccyx on others, that were not noticed by 17 other, highly respected specialists. Pain of subluxated coccyx is so intense that thoughts of suicide are not rare between suffering patients. His kindness, not rushing during detailed interview put me at ease and helped me adequately answer his questions. He is not eager to send his patients for surgery. Some are lucky to benefit just from his procedures that he performs almost painlessly, even the most feared one--nerve ablation. I wish there were more Dr. Foyes available to treat suffering people. He is a phenomenal physician, scientist and a human. I flew my 17 year old daughter almost 700 miles, from SC to NJ, to seek treatment from Dr. Patrick Foye. She had already seen about 8 different physicians locally, 4 different chiropractors, physical therapists, massage therapists, even an acupuncturist and no one could help with or even diagnose the source of her intense pain. Dr. Foye was the first and only physician that spent a lot of time listening to her and truly understood how debilitating her pain was. He answered both of our questions and never made us feel rushed or unimportant like so many other physicians have. The special X-ray technique and detailed MRI instructions were truly amazing. The difference in the quality of images produced was unreal and was crucial in diagnosing the actual problem. Dr. Foye saw a clear explanation for her pain on MRI images that a local radiologist and her regular physician missed. After years of being told she just had to learn to live with the pain, she had begun to feel that life wasn’t worth living. Dr. Foye has changed our lives and given us hope that one day soon she will be in less pain. He is a phenomenal physician with vast knowledge about coccyx pain and a compassionate, patient demeanor that inspires confidence in his very detailed treatment plan. I have read his book twice and often look at his website for advice and encouragement. He also makes himself readily available to his patients via email and telehealth visits. I would recommend anyone with coccyx pain to see him. Thank you Dr. Foye for giving us answers and hope for a better future! Dr Foye diagnosed my torn ligament off my coccyx and I could not sit without pain because my tailbone was not curling under me when I sit. He is very patient and takes his time, showing you the x-rays and explaining what the problem is. After 7 years of dealing with the pain, I decided to have a nerve ablation. It was very successful and I can sit now for hours at a time without pain for the first time in 7 years! God Bless Dr. Foye. I have my life back!

I went to him for a long-standing tailbone pain when sitting. Apparently, he thought I was lying about my pain, because when he sent me a copy of his medical report, he had lied about me, apparently to put several things in my medical record to make me look like a liar.

Dr Foye did some spinal injections. They Didn’t help. Fast forward to a year later. I had my entire tailbone removed. The doctor said my tailbone was dislocated and broken in another area. Wondering how all of these doctors missed this on the 4 MRI’ s I had and all of the sitting and standing xrays that were there.

Unfortunately, Dr. Foye was a big disappointment to me. After reading his book and all the great reviews, I had such high hopes. I could readily overlook the disorganized and rude staff if I had some relief from my coccyx pain that I have been suffering from for over 5 years. I was so surprised at the condition of his office. It was so messy, out of date and dirty. He administered an injection and when it didn't work, he advised me that there was nothing more HE could do. He did suggest that I see a surgeon to have the coccyx removed. That is not an option that I want to pursue after hearing such horror stories. I was so surprised that he seemed to be "a one trick pony" for me. I really thought he could do more. Hopefully, others will have a better experience that I did. He only offers steroid shot, but that is not a solution to all tailbone pain. If the shot does not work, he suggest surgery, which is a rather drastic approach. His shot did not help me, so I went to a better pain management doctor that recommended pelvic floor pt, which finally resolved my issue. I can’t imagine if I had listened to him and done an operating. It was irresponsible of him not to suggest less invasive solutions.

This is an edit to a review I left about a year ago, since then I've had more time to reflect upon my experience with Dr. Foye. Personally, I found him to be a mediocre pain management doctor. Based on my experience with him, I feel that he has only one treatment tool - steroid shot with numbing medicine - and that is all he can offer. When I went to his office, I had already been given a steroid shot on the coccyx, but continued to have some discomfort and I went to him for guidance. At that point, I didn't realize how tight my glute muscles had become and that it was causing me pain. He didn't help me realize this either and instead suggested yet another steroid shot (I was a little hesitant but listen to him cause he's the "tailbone dr".) The shot only made my symptoms and muscle tightness much worse, walking even became too painful at this point. I go back to him, naively thinking he can provide me with guidance, and again, he can only suggest another injection for me and gives no mention that perhaps I needed another solution. This time I listen to my gut feeling and declined the shot. Thankfully, I went to another pain management doctor whose instinct was not immediately a shot, and he suggested pelvic floor PT. After a long journey, I finally have found the reason why I experience tailbone pain (tight muscles) and have also found how to treat it. Obviously, everyone's story is different, I just feel there are more knowledgeable doctors out there, who can provide you with the same treatment as Dr. Foye, but can also provide you with better guidance, and suggest other options and solutions. I have been suffering with tailbone pain since 7/2/17. I had visited some doctors, tried using numerous cushions/donuts and pain meds to no avail. I finally decided to visit Dr. Foye on 2/6/18. Dr. Foye and his office staff (especially Grace and Patrick) were wonderful and very thorough. After taking special sitting X-rays, they explained everything to me about my tailbone structure, possible pain causes and pain management options. That day I opted to receive the guided injections to make sure that the proper places are being injected. I was told that within a month I would notice the pain lessen. I was very sore for the next few days, but I can honestly say that today marks a week that I was there and for the first time in 7 months, I am pain free. Don't waste your time!!!!!!!! From the beginning, his staff has been difficult to work with. Dr. Foye is busy , not because he is a good Dr but because he is in front of Google pages. He and his staff are terrible. Just getting them to answer the phone is a nightmare. The injections did nothung though Dr Foye assumed me it will decrease. After months later, he orders an MRI. His staff was rude, nasty, disorganized. They took months to get my mri approved. Once approved, they had chosen an mri center that didn't exist and leaving me lost. I was so frustrated at this point, I got aggregated aND his staff hung up the phone on me!@! Great doctor, appalling office. I sympathize with the reviewer who gave up on pursuing her treatment after multiple, unsuccessful attempts to sort things out with his office and I'm considering doing the same for my follow-up treatment. He's a wonderful practitioner but I have no idea what his office staff are up to. Last year they lost my medical paperwork from the previous year's treatment. Several weeks were wasted trying to get copies of my old X-rays and MRIs before I could make an appointment. This year, they seem to have decided not to answer the phone at all and not to return any calls. I was finally given an appointment at a time that didn't seem to make sense, but the receptionist hung up on me before I had finished asking questions. I just want to cry and go somewhere else. After six years of suffering with tailbone pain, and going from one specialist to the next (XRays, CT Scan, MRI showed nothing), at no avail, I decided to go see Dr. Foye in Newark, NJ. I had found him on the Internet, and kept saving him for "last resort", in part because of the fact that the Canadian medical system would not cover his fees, but also because I just wasn't sure if he could help me. In May of this year, I decided that it was time to take a leap of faith!! It was quite a trip, from Vancouver, Canada to Newark, NJ! But it was SO WORTH IT!!! Dr. Foye had a special Xray ordered, a "dynamic xray, seated position". And there it was: dislocation while seated - official diagnosis: Listhesis. It took him just that Xray to figure it out!!!! He recommended two injections, one "ganglion impar" as well as "corticosteroid specifically placed at the dislocating joint segment". It is now 4 weeks later - TOTAL RELIEF!!! I am so happy and relieved, and I would strongly recommend to everyone who has tailbone pain - accept the additional expense of travelling to Newark, NJ - it's TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! Even just the part of finding out that there was an actual REASON for me having pain, was already so awesome!! Dr. Foye and his two assistant doctors ( MD's) at the time, spent an entire afternoon with me, making sure they knew all of my medical history, and explaining very thoroughly to me what was going on and what needed to be done. Dr. Foye was super friendly, patient, knowledgeable, and thorough. I felt very reassured and comfortable in his care. As he predicted, the first 2 - 3 weeks after the injections there was a fair bit of discomfort, I'll even admit that I doubted the outcome a little bit, and then, just like he told me might happen - after 4 weeks, the pain was gone. It has been a week now, I'm in total bliss, and hope that it will stay like this. This result is more than I was even hoping for!! Dr. Foye also gave me a copy of his book. He showed me the pages that were applicable to me - go figure, my diagnosis "listhesis" is actually common!! He also provided me with a copy of my (now treasured) XRAY, so I can perhaps help to educate some doctors here in Canada!! THANK YOU, DR. FOYE, for everything!!!! I have suffered with tailbone pain for the past 4 months. I did not fall or injure myself. I have a job that requires sitting for long periods of time and started to get a slight pain when standing up from my chair one day. This pain got progressively worse over the next few days and months. Sitting is painful as well as laying on my back and getting out of the car after driving. I decided I would do what I always try to do so I googled my symptoms first to see what was wrong. i got very anxious as I read more and more and I was really afraid to see a doctor for it. While searching , I notIced Dr Foye's website and read some of the information. I also read many case studies that I could completely relate to along with many great reviews about Dr. Foye and his staff. I then filled out all of the required paperwork on the website but due to my anxiety I still decided to just wait and see how I felt. It was still a very embarrassing thought to have to go to a doctor to discuss my tailbone. After a few more weeks of wishing the pain would go away on its own, I finally gave in and made an appointment. When I called I spoke to a woman named Grace. As soon as we started talking some of my anxiety immediately went away. She was warm, friendly and answered all of my questions. She really set my mind at ease. I had an appointment set for 2 weeks later. Those two weeks, I was riddled with anxiety. The night before my appointment, I received an email from Dr. Foye introducing himself and going over what I should expect from my visit. I was impressed. After all, what doctor goes out of their way to email their patients? I headed to his office the next morning for a 12:00 apt. I arrived an hour early and they took care of me anyway. They sent me downstairs for X-rays. The X-rays were done in a standing and seated position. I also had to sit in my most painfully seated position which was difficult but they were quick. After the X-ray I headed upstairs where Dr. foye greeted me to introduce himself. He then had one of his staff members take a complete history and go over my symptoms. He was very thorough and nice. When he was finished, he told me to watch a 40 minute video while the doctor looked over all of my X-rays and history. I thought I would be bored but the video was so informative that I watched every minute of it. Dr. Foye then entered the room and went over everything with me. We looked at each X-ray together and he discussed everything he saw. He spoke to me in laymen terms so I could understand everything I was looking at. He then provided a full exam and went over his treatment plan as well as some of my options. It turns out that my tailbone dislocates upon sitting and that is what is causing me pain. Of course, I had lots and lots of questions and he answered every one of them. He didn't at any point make me feel rushed. I will be going back to him in a few weeks for an injection. I feel so at ease knowing that I will be under his care. Dr Foye has an excellent bedside manner and really cares about his patients. If your anxious or embarrassed, you won't be once you meet him. I am relieved and looking forward to continuing my treatment with Dr Foye. I have suffered with tailbone pain for the past 4 months. I did not fall or injure myself. I have a job that requires sitting for long periods of time and started to get a slight pain when standing up from my chair one day. This pain got … More

Dr. Foye is a must-see doctor if you are having coccyx pain and can't find a local doctor who will take it seriously and treat you for the pain. I flew to NJ to see Dr. Foye after finding his website because my local doctors seemed to think nothing could be done about my coccyx pain. After viewing the special x-rays done there, Dr. Foye quickly saw the problem, thoroughly explained it and my treatment options to me, and then, miracle of miracles, he eliminated my pain with an injection and a nerve block. Four months later I am still pain free! Dr. Foye is a caring, empathetic doctor who really understands the severity of coccyx pain and how to eliminate it. If the pain returns, I'll fly back to NJ for another treatment ---- he is the best! So grateful for Dr. Foye's expertise in treating coccyx pain. As others have described, he diagnosed my issues using his special imaging techniques. I got nerve block + steroid using guided injection method. I was completely pain free for 6 months and just received 2nd round of injections. I'll go back whenever I need for more. Don't waste your time!!!!!!!! From the beginning, his staff has been difficult to work with. Dr. Foye is busy , not because he is a good Dr but because he is in front of Google pages. He and his staff are terrible. Just getting them to answer the phone is a nightmare. Once I was finally in the door, I watch a video that tells me I have hope and also tells me surgery is not the answer. I get the injections , only to find out 2 days later that my pain was back. He and his staff don't care

A great visit! Dr Foye was very personable, thorough & a nice gu.. I was impressed by the attention and time he gave me. The initial visit took a long time (waiting for x-ray and radiologist report from hospital), however I was informed of the wait time for xray before arriving. Dr Foye and Simple were attentive & gave me as much time as needed. Having seen 8 doctors in the past 8 years for coccyx pain, this was by far the most thorough exam & knowledgeable doctor. Worth traveling for!

I flew from out of state to see Dr. Foye for chronic tailbone pain that was getting worse and worse, even lying on my back in bed was becoming painful. I'm so glad I did! Dr. Foye and his staff were wonderful in every way. Dr. Foye is patient and thorough in his explanations and treatment approach. His treatment gave me total relief that is still ongoing four months later. I recommend him very, very highly if you are suffering from tailbone pain.

If you have Tailbone pain this is the Doctor to see. He uses unique images to find the cause of your pain. Once the x-rays have been taken he will take the time to listen to what you've been going through. He has more insight into finding the cause of this this problem than any Doctor I had previously seen by far. That insight in turn leads to more options available to end the pain. My coccyx pain was running my life and I suffered needlessly instead of making an appointment to see Doctor Foye.

Dr. Foye is the best doctor I have ever met! I flew in from Canada to see him after 8 painful weeks of failed diagnosis and it was well worth the trip. Dr. Foye and his staff were kind, patient, professional and took the time with me to make sure all my questions were answered. He was able to give me a full diagnosis and injections the same day, it has only been 3 weeks but I already feel lots of improvement and plan on going back to see him again. I can't recommend him enough! Thank you Dr.Foye

I want to share how genuinely nice was to meet Dr. Foye and his staff and how my whole experience with him and his office was so accelerating. I felt happy and hopeful. It was so refreshing and comforting to have such warm and friendly experience in a professional and knowledgeable doctor’s office; to feel safe and secure, to have all our questions answered with such diligence, and each person even nicer than the next, treating us with respect and dignity. THANK YOU, Dr. Foye!!

Foye and interns spent more than enough time to ensure my treatment and understanding was complete. I was completely blown away by Dr. Foye as was my engineer son who witnessed everything. Between Monday and Tuesday he and his team worked on my tailbone case more than seven hours! Absolute excellence! Jack Wnuk Lapeer, MI

What a blessing that Dr. Foye and his remedy are available for those of us suffering from tailbone pain! His entire staff was warm and friendly and he made my husband and myself feel assured of his expertise as well as at ease despite the anxiety we were experiencing about the whole thing. It took almost 2 full weeks before I felt relief and with each passing day after that point, the relief was just greater so that now I can say I am 95% better! Dr. Foye is a miracle worker!!!! I have been suffering for decades unable to sit without excruciating pain. I had a partial coocygectomy at Hopkins, but it was only minimally helpful. I was staring to lose hope, and then I found Dr. Foye. I have had two ganglion impar injections. The first brought about dramatic relief. The second gave me even more relief. I feel reborn. Dr. Foye really cares about his patients. He wants them to be fully informed. That is why he shows the video. He is a fabulous doctor who will take the time to understand and treat pain. I had an appt on Oct. 17, 2013 with Dr. Foye. After a lengthy stay in his office, long video, and detailed assessment, he seemed to find the reason for my tailbone pain and a solution. I was told that I needed to get preapproval from insurance for the injection. I offered to pay privately that day but was denied this option. I waited 2 weeks for approval and when I called them was told that it had been denied because his office was using the wrong code, however the office refused to submit under the code asked for by the insurance company. So I again called and offered to pay privately or at least come in for a steriod injection to get me through the next couple of months until the insurance situation could be resolved. I sent Dr. Foye an email as instructed by his office staff on Nov. 7. 4 phone calls since then and messages left to have the Dr. return my phone calls and another email sent on Dec. 14. Still no response. Last email sent today advising him on my dissatisfaction with his office staff and himself as a Dr. I now have an appt with my regular orthopedic MD that has been giving me blind injections for the past year and hope to find comfort that way. Don't waste your time with this office. They just don't care. I am an RN and work with Dr's all the time and he should be ashamed of himself for conducting his business in this manner.
