Okay Atilla Onan

Dr. Onan literally gave me my life back. I love that one of the first things he said to me was that he’s extremely conservative when it comes to surgery and it should absolutely be the last possible option. Dr. Onan possesses a combination of being a straight-shooter and an empathetic, kind person. I can’t say enough good things about him. I will say that the ONLY negative experience was with Veronica, the scheduling person on his team. I’ve had two surgeries and each time she was rude and unprofessional. I nearly found a different surgeon for the second surgery because of my interactions with her. Everyone else on his team, and at the practice, have been stellar. I can’t thank Dr. Onan enough for giving me my life back.

Dr. Onan worked me into his busy schedule for a consultation. He heard my needs, reviewed my records, and set me on a new path to healing. I appreciated his friendliness and professionalism and felt comfortable that I was on the best course for me. I will definitely seek his counsel in the future.

I’ve seen Dr. Onan twice now. First time was two years ago when Covid was rampant. We both decided together to wait to have the surgery until cases came down. Came back to meet with him again as the pain is really affecting my quality of life. Dr. Onan was patient, explained everything that would happen during surgery, the risks involved, and never rushed us while we continued to ask questions. I will be moving ahead with the surgery as I believe that he is not only extremely qualified but his bedside manner is superb. Sadly I don’t find that often in medical doctors these days.

This review is long over due. I collapsed my c6/ c7 section of my spine, which caused my pain and discomfort until I met Dr. Onan. He is caring and passionate about what he does, and he truly seeks only for what is best for the patient. Dr. Onan gave me my life back, at 32 years of age I can't say enough how much that means for me, my wife, and our future children. The most important part about Dr. Onan to me though is, he is with you every step of the way. You do not suffer, you are never neglected. While you are in his care, you are the number one priority. Thank you Dr. Onan for giving me my life back, I wish I could give you more recognition but this will have to do. If you are a patient who has life altering pain, let Dr. Onan tell you if you have to live in that pain forever or not. Also, I got up and walked immediately after surgery. I felt better during recovery than I did for over half a decade.

Well, in my case Dr. Onan delivered bad news in the best possible way He is super empathetic, has a great bedside manner and he tries so hard to exhaust all treatments before moving on to the big “S” word. I learned more about my condition in one visit with him than I did in two years of being bounced around to 5 different clinics before I found him.

Listened to my symptom description and discussed treatment options. Very happy with the visit and treatment. My back feels better than it has in months.

The best doctor i have ever seen so far who heard me through completely and understood my problems . Definitely would recommend anybody with spine issues to definitely get consulted with Dr. Onan

When I arrived for my appointment, the front desk had no record of the appointment. However, they went to great lengths to get me in that afternoon and were so nice about it. I really liked Dr Onan. In spite of his busy day, he took the time to listen and review my previous history and last year's scans. Just a great guy, and I feel confident that he will be doing my lumbar spine surgery.

I needed a injection in the lower back and specifically ask the scheduler if this doctor did those and was told yes. When I got there the PA told me he would have to refer me to a pain management doctor. Lost almost 2 weeks of waiting and 2 hours of my work day

My wife was suffering from continual and severe pain in her lower back. After doing our research we decided to make an appt. with Dr. Onan at Texas Ortho. He immediately impressed us with his knowledge and straightforward manner. X-rays and MRIs revealed that my wife had serious issues and needed both a spinal fusion (L4-L5) and a laminectomy. Dr. Onan performed the surgery and it went very well. My wife recovered in good fashion and best of all---the pain was gone! It has now been 2 years since the surgery and there has been no re-occurrence of the pain or other problems. We had our final check-up today with Dr. Onan (delayed due to the pandemic), and X-rays showed that the hardware is still well positioned and there has been good supporting bone growth around it. Thank you, Dr. Onan, for your excellent work!

Dr. Onan is fantastic! He completely repaired my blown out L5 S1 and has be back to 100% enjoying life again after a scary couple of months where I could barely get out of a chair and had radiating pain down my left leg. He is very talented, provides amazing patient support and will guide you through your particular journey. Truly an amazing doctor that I am very grateful for!

I woke one night in the most awful lower back & hip pain unable to move without more pain & hardly able to walk. COVID-19 had pretty much shut down medical access but fortunately Dr. Onan saw me & shortly after he was doing surgery on my L1 — he’s kindness & support to me & my husband was the best! First off, the office is very good with COVID protocols right now. Dr. Onan is great. We may not have figured out exactly what is wrong just yet, but he listened to all of my issues. FINALLY I found a doctor that agrees that I may need a rheumatologist to step in. Other doctors have just downplayed everything I have told them. I'm thankful that I may finally find some relief with this referral he gave me. If I have any issues in the future, I will definitely go back to him. It's so important for doctors to listen to their patients and he does.

Prior to meeting Dr. Onan, I had undergone two back surgeries due to herniated discs. Both surgeries resulted in my discs re-herniating a few months later. I met to a neuro surgeon in San Antonio and the course of action was to do a double fusion. I didn’t feel comfortable with that plan and looked up Dr. Onan. Dr. Onan met with me and gave me his plan, which was to fuse one level and re-do the scarred up areas in my back from the previous surgeries. Dr. Onan was positive, supportive, and understood my needs. The surgery was a huge success as my chronic pain went completely away. I no longer had to take pain killers just to make it through the day. I would 100% recommend anyone go see Dr. Onan. Dr. Onan allowed me to continue in my career path which is physically demanding. Thank you Dr. Onan and staff for making my life better.

Dr. Onan was ready to help me try to figure out what is wrong and causing me pain. I did not have to waste time trying to persuade him to take me seriously. He was also very open about sharing my MRI and XRay results and bringing them up on the screen multiple times when I wanted to see them. He went over them patiently and answered my questions like a knowledgeable person who is there to help. I appreciated meeting with him and getting his medical opinion.

I have been seeing DR Onan for several years for different types of injuries. Every time he has improved my quality of life. Very open and honest gives you your options and recommendations then let's you decide. My confidence in him is off the charts.

Dr. Onan was referred by one of his counter parts that work with him at Texas Orthopedics. I went in to see Dr Kancheria. When he realized this was beyond his expertise he called in Dr Onan he recommended that I go in and get a CT scan with imaging for my cervical spine once reviewing the results he scheduled the surgery. With the covid-19 spreading rampant here in Austin my scheduled surgery was up in the air. Dr Onan spoke with the hospital and stated thatI needed the surgery and they proceeded. From beginning to end I was amazed with the anesthesiology team with the hospital nurses and the recovery team with all of the nurses in the day surgery. I could not have been treated by another group of people all of the symptoms that I was experiencing prior to my surgery are completely gone the doctor once he open me up he saw additional work that was needed to be done. He corrected it and I am very pleased with the results. You can't even see any stitches Dr Onan, you did a great job!!

I've been very happy with the care I've received. I'm the kind of person who wants to understand what's happening and he's always been very informative and even went over my MRI in detail with me. He also hasn't pushed me to get expensive treatments or surgeries so I feel like my health is his biggest concern

I was at a point where I couldn't walk anymore. At only 56 years old and being in constant pain due lower back issues, I had to do something. After visiting Dr. Onan, he found that my sciatic nerve was being pinched and after two cortisone shots, showed no signs of improvement. I then opted for surgery through the back with a cage to support during recovery. After the surgery, I felt immediate relief! Dr. Onan explained that the nerve was extremely inflamed, which validated our suspicions. While it has been a little over a year since the surgery, I am now back to 100% mobility and no pain whatsoever! While I probably wouldn't recommend the surgery through the back (from front is quicker recovery) if I could have done it again (my choice), it was still a complete success. Thank you so much, Dr. Onan!! I put up another mile of fence last week around the ranch and it didn't hurt a bit!

I am/was very pleased with Dr. Onan. Very professional and he has a great bedside manner. He took the time to explain my situation and options, as well as answering any questions I had. I had a two level disc replacement, C5-C6, C6-C7. He came in to see me before surgery and after as well to check in.

I have seen several doctors. Dr Onan was compassionate and listened to what I was telling him. He was very personable, and he was able to tell me exactly what to expect. I would recommend him to anyone that needs spinal surgery.

Dr. Onan did a fantastic job on my L5-S1 microdiscectomy. Could not be more pleased with the professionalism, and calm manner in which my surgery was handled. I had an anterior lumbar fusion done by Dr. Onan the entire process was amazing. Even after my insurance denied original claim his office went to bat for me on an appeal and go everything straightened out. Leading up to surgery everything was explained clearly and all questions answered. Day of and post surgery were amazing and I am recovering very well.

Dr. Onan is both kind and professional. His staff and team are wonderful. He also referred me to a wonderful neurosurgeon. I intend to complete my rehab and PT with Texas Orthopedics sports and rehab after the upcoming surgery.

I was in so much pain that walking and standing were almost impossible. Yet I kept putting off surgery because I had heard too many stories of surgeries gone wrong. Dr. Onan was recommended as the one with the best hands. I was not disappointed. I’m was back at work as a kindergarten teacher in a month. The pain is gone! Dr. Onan does have the best hands in the business!

Wonderful pre- and post-operative care. Dr. Onan took time to go through my options and had me have injections before we determined surgery was the best long-term option. The procedure was successful and the doctor will continue to monitor my recovery.

I had one visit with Dr.Onan He looked at my X-ray prescribe physical therapy and some meds. Made some notes and left the room. I didn’t know we were even done with the appointment. Next thing I was being shown where to check out. Not sure how I feel yet . I have severe lower back pain due to bone on bone in my discs lower spine . Cushion is gone. I’ll try therapy and meds and see what happens I guess . No follow up appt was scheduled : I have been dealing with this degenerate back disc for 5 yr

If your spinal health deteriorates to the point where you need orthopedic surgery then you have two choices: Employ the services of an experienced, expert surgeon like Dr. Onan and get your problem solved, or ... take your chances with something much more uncertain. The choice is yours.

In October of 2018 I underwent surgery by Dr. Onan. He did a lumbar laminectomy at L5-S1 and cleaned up some bone spurs. This was a similar surgery by a different surgeon 10 months earlier that was unsuccessful. But this time with Dr.Onan I got total relief from pain. I am 4 months post-surgery and I’ve returned to my normal activities at work. I’ve also been able to return to my passion of racing standup paddleboards. My total experience with Texas Orthopedics and Dr. Onan was a positive one.

I have suffered with lower back pain and sciatica pain for years. Dr. Onan and his staff were very attentive and took great care of me. He is a good listener and the first Doctor who has offered me something other than pills to get me back on track. I recommend Dr. Onan and his staff highly to anyone with back pain.

I had been suffering with chronic back pain for more than 15 years at L5-S1. Dr Onan did a spinal fusion ANTERIOR, which means he went in through my belly, not my back, because this approach has better results. He had a vascular surgeon scrub in to open and close, and now, I HAVE NO PAIN! Dr. Onan was so kind, understanding, professional, non condescending and I trusted him IMMEDIATELY. If you are lucky enough to get him to operate on you, you are in the best hands possible!
