Dr. Nicholas L. Schlageter

There is a reason that you can get in quickly -- Delnor referred us to Dr. Schlageter due to his sub-interest in geriatric/dementia care. At the appointment we provided the nurse with a list of why we were there with our mother who has Alzheimer's. Due to her AD, she does not follow conversations and will deny or mislead when answering any questions put to her, so we write out what is going on and provide it upfront. Dr. S. came into the exam room and did not appear to have read the summary provided to the nurse a few minutes prior. Rather, he jumped in to speaking with mom - obtaining a great deal of false information. By the end of the appointment, Dr. S proclaimed that mom is "doing really well". He did not address our concerns of medications, delusions, aggression, and sleep deprivation. He punted her care right back to her GP! Needless to say, we will not be back and are on a long wait list for a neurologist who cares about dementia patients and helping them with comfort and managing their disease. I give one start because we were able to obtain an appointment quickly - for other folks that may be the #1 priority. However, be careful what you wish for, what a waste of time and money. Dr. Schlageter seemed great at first. I had already been to one neurology group and wanted a second opinion. After a whole lot of phone calls, I found Dr. Schlageter and was able to see him pretty quickly. The one, and yes - only one, appointment I had with him felt great. My fiancé came with me and we went over the myriad of symptoms I had been experiencing for 6 months. Dr. Schlageter was thorough in his questions and explanations. He then ordered bloodwork and said he would personally follow up with me regarding the results, and if things came back normal he would recommend a rheumatologist. Well, this was in the beginning of August. I’ve since seen two other neurologists (whom I had already had appointments with, but waited to see for several months) and have started a treatment plan. However, I never heard back from Dr. Schlageter. I completed my bloodwork within a few days of my visit with him. I called his office to check on things, spoke with his receptionist. No call back, nothing received in the mail, not even a bill! Dr. Schlageter is affiliated with Northwestern Medicine via Delnor Community Hospital, and that is where I went to get my bloodwork done. While I can see the results on MyChart, it still doesn’t make up for the fact that I never received any follow-up. Waste of my time, and at the time I put a lot of faith in him due to the fact that I had all these symptoms that pointed at a neurological issue, but was having a hard time getting into a neurologist within a reasonable amount of time. Two stars because he did seem to care and was very thorough during my appointment. very knowledgeable and experienced in brain abnormalities

We were desperate to see a neurologist for my mother who has Alzheimer's. There is a reason why you can quickly get an appointment here! DO NOT take the appointment with this doctor - it will be a waste of your time and resources! Dr. Schlageter pronounced my mom to be "doing really well!" and did not address our concerns on delusions, aggression, hallucinations, and medicines. He punted us back to her GP. From reading other reviews that I did not have the time to research before our appt - it seems that this doctor does not do well with elderly patients, especially those with types of dementia. Really sad.

I would never recommend this doctor. My husband has newly diagnosed dementia. He came across as rude and no hope. Said our insurance would not pay for certain tests. Found out later it would. He never checked. We have found another neurologist who is up with the times and hopeful. The new doctor is making sure that certain cognitive tests can be ordered. This doctor was talking spinal tap. Thank goodness we do not have to see him again.
