Poor bedside manner, unfriendly and uncooperative staff. Money before concern and compassion.

I was in very bad shape with two herniated lumbar discs. Torso was tilted to the right, could barely walk, and was in a lot of pain. Dr. Mataragas performed a Laminectomy Discectomy and I could walk straight right after surgery. After a week of recovery all pain is gone and I am my way to a full recovery. Wanted to thank the staff at Sports & Orthopedic Center for all the coordination and follow up. Special thanks to Dr. Mataragas for performing the procedure with great precision, skill, and care.

Dr Mataragas is an amazing physician. I have been pain free for more than one year, after following his advice.

This is the best staff i have had the pleasure to work with, especially Tye! DR. Mataragas is one if not the best spine surgeons I have met. I was in very bad shape and couldn't work. The surgery resolved the pain and enabled me to walk correctly again right after surgery was complete. I highly recommend themDr.MATARAGAS

Great doctor, great PA, great support staff. I felt informed and knew what to expect before, during and after my lumbar fusion. I felt totally confident coming into surgery

I thought I would be in a lot more pain after my spinal fusion but I wasn't. I was able to get back to my activities after surgery. I am very pleased with the results

The Kyphoplasty procedure has removed the pain I had from the fracture. I am back doing all the things I want and am even exercising again. Having the procedure in the office worked very well and after the Kyphoplasty my pain was gone in 2 days.

It is awesome to have a doctor with a world class medical team fighting to get approval for my surgery. It was a real battle and it was a surgery I badly needed. I was surprised by how quickly I recovered from the cutting edge, minimally invasive techniques. Two weeks after my surgery I drove to my appointment unassisted and was back to most activities.

No pain at all during the Kyphoplasty treatment. I felt immediate improvement, and then continued to have gradual improvement after it was done. I would recommend getting it done with Dr. Mataragas to anyone with compression fractures of their spine

After severe back and leg pain for years, it was incredible to fine a practice and a doctor that can truly recognize what the problem is. Dr. Mataragas's treatment plan was focused and effective, and there is significant improvement after surgery

I am a surgeon myself and I only trusted Dr. Mataragas to perform my Lumbar Fusion. I returned to work quickly and am now pain free. Cannot recommend Dr. Mataragas and the team at Sports and Orthopedic Center enough.

The professional medical staff are very competent, and nice! Dr. Mataragas has wonderful bed side manner, is compassionate, so nice, I trust him 100 percent.

Receptionist are really rude. I will not recommend this place.

Dr. Mataragas is #1 in my book. I was having back pain and muscle spasms for 5 weeks. I went to see him today, 1 injection and my pain is finally GONE..

Dr. Mataragas was very caring and compassionate. He performed the surgery with no complications and my recovery is going nicely. The day after surgery after 10 minutes of walking my pain was gone for the first time in over 15 years.

My pain was close to extreme prior to surgery, and within 48 hours after surgery I was up walking around doing physical therapy with minimal pain. The experience was starting a race with 2 flat tires, and ending up in first place with brand new tires. Nothing but amazing things to say about Dr. Mataragas and his staff.

I saw Dr. Mataragas after almost a week of excruciating pain. I thought I had broken something in my back while weight training. I called a few other offices and the staff was rude and one put me on hold to crack a joke with a coworker before hanging up on me. I finally called the sports and orthopedic office and Dr. M offered to stay later and see me that evening. He asked me a few questions and concluded I had a rip out of place and I only needed to see a chiropractor. I was slightly embarrassed that I wasted his time, even still he was Knowledgeable and patient. I’m happy I had the opportunity to meet him.

There was a point where my back pain was so bad that I couldn't enjoy the things I loved to do, and I was starting to have to miss work. This is the best I have felt for years, now I feel like I can do activities that I have done for 15 years. Everyone notices how good I look and I tell them all it is thanks to Dr. Mataragas

Dr. Mataragas went above and beyond during the entire process. He worked with my insurance company to get the surgery expedited and helped me eliminate pain that I had been dealing with for years. He is very personable and spent extra time answering questions I had. Fantastic experience and I highly recommend him.

Dr. Mataragas did my L5-S1 fusion. He spent several appointments with me going over both surgical and non-surgical treatments for my back pain. When the non-surgical treatments didn't work, I opted for surgery. Within 2 weeks of surgery, I had almost no back pain. I was already back to walking within 8 hours of my procedure. My rehab is going really well at this point, and I can't thank Dr. Mataragas and the staff at SOC and West Boca Medical Center enough!!!

After seeing 3 different physicians, Dr. Mataragas was able to make the correct diagnosis in me when no other doctor could figure out what was wrong. I had been dealing with severe pain in my back for months. The greatest part of it was that the fix for the problem he found was not even surgery! Cant thank him enough.

I have entirely too much experience with spine surgery and spine surgeons. I can say without a doubt he is the most talented and skillful surgeon I have been around. I would not go anywhere else for my spine surgery care, whether it be surgical or non-surgical.

After seeing multiple spine specialists and being told surgery is the only option for me, Dr. Mataragas was willing to try non-surgical methods and thankfully it resulted in me getting better and not having to have any back surgery. He cares about the patient and not just making money. I owe him everything.

My experience with Dr. Mataragas was great! Extreme pain before treatment and now feeling much better. He took the time to listen to my symptoms and concerns.

My first surgery was fair but the pain continued and instead of meeting with him, I met with his PA's and continued with pain injections. Shouldn't the surgery have alleviated much of that pain?! Second surgery two years later with hardware now yet pain continued and I got nowhere with additional injections and appointments with PA's. With increasng pain, I sought out a NEW SURGEON ...he found all the screws pulling out of place so after a 3rd surgery and new hardware, I can enjoy life.

Had a spinal fusion and still felt pain months after. Dr. M tried telling me that I just needed more therapy and the fusion was successful but refused to order a CT to get a better look. I saw Dr. Paul after Mataragas left Edward’s and he ordered a CT and said the fusion failed. Also, during my surgery, a screw was too far to the right, hitting the nerves in my leg, and caused permanent nerve damage and the sciatic pain is worse than it was before the surgery.

Amazing doctor, I had a cysts removed,L4L5 had a disc replacement 2rods ,plate ,2screws.amazing . He explained everything to you had compassion and is a fantastic surgeon

'Thanks for putting me back together!!" Dr. Mataragas saw me after I had seen severe disc degeneration in my L5-L6 and we agreed on a spinal fusion. After years of pain to the point of not being able to get off of the couch, from a slalom skiing deep water start, where I herniated and ultimately saw my discs deflate to spondolysthesis- this man put me back on my feet. If you are here wondering- DON'T WAIT like I did..walked with no pain in 3 mo's Thx for giving me life back= Dr.M, 3yrs+now!!

I have had 9 , yes 9 spine surgeries . 7 with a Naperville surgeon , 1 at University of Colorado and this last one with Dr. Mataragas . He is short and straight forward with his assessment and while that may be unsettling to some I trusted him simply because he was confident a two level fusion would solve my issues and needed to be done . I wish I had seen him 2 years sooner and had the fusion done . It would have saved me thousands of dollars in Pain Management efforts , etc , etc . I have dealt with these issues since a 2006 auto accident and have been in misery ever since . 5 cervical fusions , 1 lumbar discetomy , 1lumbar laminectomy , A SCS Implant , and the fusion with Dr. Mataragas . For the first time in years I am OPTOMISTIC this was the fix I have need for years but my previous conservative surgeon was obviously wrong . My lower back is finally stable ! I was told recovery was gonna be difficult but it has been the easiest of the previous surgeries . This is the 3rd week since surgery and I'm walking fine , etc , etc and ready to start PT this week already . Im in zero pain aside from the annoying muscle tightness that is temporary . The staff of this DR. is awesome !!!! I cant say enough about PA Ellis and everyone in his office . Now as medicine has changed over the years you will only see Dr. Mataragas if he deems you a surgical candidate and will explain his plan and again b4 surgery . After that you will see his PA . Im not used to this as my previous surgeons always saw me at each visit but trust me when I tell you his PA's are fantastic and Im sure if you wanted or needed to see the surgeon he'd be more than happy to make time for you . Failed back surgery. Doctor Mataragas did a wrong level fusion on me, due to the fact that the pain management doctor didn't test the correct level. Rather than hold off on surgery, he proceeded with the wrong procedure. When asked about the mix up, he threw all his med assistants at me and wouldn't own up to it. Stay away from this man.

Dr Mataragas and the PA's at the DuPage spine clinic are amazing. Dr Mataragas performed a microdiscectomy on me a couple of months back and I am very pleased with the results. The surgery itself was expertly performed and the intense nerve pain from a pinched nerve at L5 S1 was gone immediately. The wound healed in a matter of days which is a testament to his skill.
