Dr. Navinder Singh Sethi

I went to Dr. Sethi because a friend had referred me to him, but he unfortunately recommended redoing a major spinal surgery that I recently had which totally wasn't needed and even if done gave no guaranty that it would help. In addition he thought that there "might be a screw loose" in the hardware that had been installed in the same previous surgery which also proved to be untrue. He probably is a good surgeon in general because the surgery he performed for my friend helped relieve his symptoms, but I wasn't happy that he suggested I do a major surgery that wasn't needed and wouldn't help me and I would strongly suggest getting a second opinion if he suggests having surgery done. Dr. Sethi and his staff were kind and well-informed. They answered all my questions and helped with paperwork. Best of all, my back surgery went well, I healed well, and am out of pain. Highly recommend Dr. Sethi and his practice!

Dr. Sethi operated on my wife's spine about six years ago. Since then we moved away from Maryland. When I got severe psiatic pain in my legs last year, I traveled back to Maryland to see Dr. Sethi because my wife spoke so highly of him. Today was the one year follow up of my spinal surgery. I made an appointment to see Dr. Sethi for severe chronic neck pain but actually (and unexpectedly) saw his PA because Dr. Sethi was called away for an emergency. Nevertheless, the PA, Brent, was absolutely excellent. He patiently reviewed my CT scan with me, explained the problem clearly, told me that physical therapy was probably all I needed (and he was right, having now completed several sessions of PT). Furthermore, the front desk staff was nice, a rarity in a medical practice nowadays.

Dr Sethi performed a lumbar laminectomy on L4 and L5 for me on February 4th 2021. Until that point, I had been in considerable pain. When I awoke from the surgery, I realized immediately that all of the pain was gone. Within about 4 hours of surgery, I went for a walk (Dr Sethi let me know a short walk was ok). I might have taken pain killers for about 12 hours or so, but after that, I didn't take anything. All of the nerve pain was gone and I had no pain at the surgical site. The entire team was phenomenal. I usually become nauseous with anesthetics, but when I mentioned this to the team, they came up with solutions right away and for the first time, I did not become nauseous with the surgery. He is not a chatty fellow, but he listens carefully and responds to all questions thoughtfully. I am very grateful that he was my surgeon and thought all of the medical and administrative staff did an exemplary job. Dr. Sethi is an amazing spine surgeon. I felt immediate relief after having my spinal surgery done with Dr. Sethi and there were very minimal pain from the surgery. When I walked into his office for the first time, I was in so much pain and walking was very difficult. It hasn’t even been 2 weeks after I had my surgery and now I’m practically running. He is very pleasant, professional and spot on with his diagnosis and treatments. I can not say enough about how wonderful he is and would highly recommend him. Dr Sethi was the third surgeon I consulted for very painful lumbar issues. He recommended a lumbar laminectomy on L4 and discectomy on L5, which was significantly less invasive than the double fusion another surgeon had assured me was the best option. I had surgery in November 2020, had a full recovery and am now back pain free. Until that point, I had been in considerable daily pain for 18 months. I have seen Dr. Sethi numerous time over the past 10 years, mostly for back and knee issues. He, along with follow up physical therapy at the Centers, has always brought me back to full functionality. That is a great record when dealing with a risk taking 81 year old man who remains active at tennis and bicycling. Dr. Sethi is very thorough and takes the time to explain my problem and his proposed solution thoroughly. My wife also sees Dr. Sethi and thinks the world of my. I had outstanding care with Dr. Sethi and his aide,,Richard. I had a spinal,fusion 13 years ago and it has healed perfectly. All of the therapy I received afterwards was helpful and compassionate I plan to use him again. I highly recommend him.

I have been a paitent of Dr. Sethi since 2014. He saved my life! I had been on opiods for years and nothing helped with my back pain. I weighed 290 pounds at the time and pretty much had given up on life. After the surgery in 2014, I am now able to do everything. I have lost 110 pounds. I exercise regularly. If it wasn't for Dr. Sethi I probably wouldn't be here. He is a true hero!

Dr. N. Sethi performed surgery to repair my hip broken in a fall. My recovery went extremely well and my hip is fully healed. The physical therapy I received after surgery at CAO has helped immensely. I would recommend both.

Dr. Sethi brings the human element into a visit. He is competent, compassionate ,and kind.

My experience with Dr. Sethi was very disappointing. He is either not very bright or simply doesn't care much about his patients. I broke my shoulder blade and a finger from a bicycle accident few months ago. I kept pointing out as early as couple of days after the injury that my arm feels out of place and that my shoulder looks very droopy. He ignored me and dismissively stated that it's because of muscle atrophy. How is muscle going to atrophy that much after a couple of days? He also had no idea what to do with my finger and asked that I see a hand specialist. The hand specialist that I saw immediately noticed that my arm was partially dislocated. He was disappointed that Sethi didn't pick up on that and also, he left my finger in the sling for 6 weeks - way too long! This dullard only went by xrays. Saw a broken bone and that's all he myopically was focused on. It didn't occur to him that if I broke a bone, I could possibly have tissue, ligament or labrum tears.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sethi for several years. On each office visit, he takes time to answer any questions I may have regarding my lower back issues. If you are in need an Orthopedic Surgeon, I would "highly" recommend him! David H.

Will never recommend. He is rude, never returns call, greedy, calls you back for office visit to make money. Takes your x ray but charges you to give you your X-ray record. Very unprofessional and greedy.

Dr. Sethi may be technically competent in his field, but his manners with patients need significant improvement. My mom was seeing Dr. Sethi for the first time, and he was abrupt and curt in his interactions with her. Within minutes of our appointment , he was already standing up and walking to the door even though we were still asking questions. There is much to be gained by actively listening to a patient and also showing compassion, especially when a patient is very in significant pain. This was the first time I saw Dr Sethi he was nice enough . He gave me a Cortizone shot in my hip and I asked him when I could go to the gym and he said tomorrow and I said can I go to work he said sure you can go tomorrow, that evening I could barely move and the following day I could barely walk and felt unwell ,Evidently I am having a Cortisone flare. I told him that was my concern he said it only happens to 1%, although I told him I’ve had them before . But I can appreciate the fact that he doesn’t know that I stand and walk all day long at my job I can do up to 7 miles in a day. On a cement floor . Maybe just a little more compassion , everyone’s pain tolerance is different . I was NOT able to go to work or the gym the next day . This was the first time I saw Dr Sethi he was nice enough . He is a great doctor and surgeon

I gave him 2 stars only because he may be very good technically but we felt that he was condescending and impatient, even though there were no other obvious patients after us. Before being seen by him, I noticed that he was walking the halls, apparently for lack of patients. Do not expect him to volunteer information or to make you feel comfortable. You need to have your list of questions and hope you have covered everything because he is likely to want to make a premature exit before you can think of all the things you might want to know about your condition. I had severe spinal issues most of my life and 6 years ago I met dr. Sethi and he operated on my spine once and that's all I needed. Dr. Sethi is a godsend there is not another one like him. Absolutely fantastic. Dr. Sethi is professional and extremely knowledgeable. He changed my life when he performed my cervical surgery. He came at the recommendation of numerous friends. I cannot say enough about how wonderful of a doctor he is.

I had back surgery with Dr. Sethi at the end of February, at the Columbia location. He and his staff were wonderful. His surgical coordinator, Claire made setting everything up so effortless. Instead of getting the spinal stimulator, he recommended first trying to fix the problem. Im so glad I listened to him. Dr. Sethi confirmed what another (non-surgical) spine doctor had told me 6 years ago, that my problem could only be fixed surgically. I found him and his staff very pleasant, professional and helpful. Most importantly he resolved a back issue of 28 years. I had immediate relief from my original problem and except from MINOR surgical muscle pain (I am only a couple of months out) am feeling great. I am ecstatic with my results and HIGHLY recommend him. He started with an aspirin. Then recommended cortistzone shot. Then explained the Procedure to fix the nerve problem in my sciatica. Excellent Patient care and information and surgery was a success.

Dr. Sethi and his team performed surgery recently to remove a bone spur touching my sciatic nerve. I believe Dr. Sethi is a highly skilled, caring and compassionate doctor who always exhibited the utmost professionalism. As a surgeon very good! Do not look for calls back when you have a question! Just saw him for my 2/3 month visit and all along told noooo bending even home physical therapy and was told with what I have it's very bad to do that! Second back surgery. Do the Dr says let me see you touch your toes well I felt confused know one sent me a letter or called me saying it was ok to try this in fact it has always been the opposite! So I called a day and a half ago still waiting for a call back! Told go to physically therapy so I can bend and of course do other things as well and that's fine my problem is and question is when did it go from it's very bad for you to ok do it. I was told you have degenerative disc disease and it's bad to bend and twist and other things and this is how it will be the rest of my life. Be careful doing everything do things in increments now so tell me what would you be thinking of you all of a sudden were told the opposite? And still waiting for answers about my illness and do I really have that? How come I was told never do that ever anf how come it's ok now? Also the intake person in the back office asked me so what's your pain level today so I said a 3/4 sometimes it can get pretty bad do I was taken in for an x-ray and the woman says oh your pain is a 10 it's know better! I said no I never said that so she had to go strighten that problem out ! 3/4 does not equal a 10 oh and today make the third day that the Dr should call but, this is the day of my actual spot that was changed because they booked him a surgery so they moved me up a few day and I'm still waiting As a surgeon very good! This is my second ACDF spine surgery (10/12/2017) with Dr. Sethi. Dr. Sethi is a very talented and gifted surgeon. You will go into surgery with nerve pain and wake up after surgery with no nerve pain. You're in good hands with Dr. Sethi and staff.

Dr. Sethie recently performed L4/L5 fusion surgery to relieve pain from spondolothesis and stenosis. The nerve pain was immediately gone and in less than two weeks I am walking over 5,000 steps per day and driving with little discomfort. He is a caring and talented surgeon and I would recommend him to my closest friends.

Although Dr. Sethi has an impressive background and education, I was extremely disappointed in how he treated my mother during a very stressful visit this week. After waiting over an hour for him, we received some concerning news. Dr. Sethi's delivery of this information was insensitive and vague. His overall attitude during this visit made us feel rushed and unimportant. We were then left to wait once again for more information which didn't come. We left the office. We will never go back to see him. The only reason why I gave him one star is because there isn't an option for zero stars. Dr. Sethi is a brilliant doctor and an amazing- technically skilled surgeon. He is all facts, no-nonsense, answered all my questions (and I asked a lot of detailed questions, as I am an engineer and my wife a med-surg nurse). I even emailed his office a large number of questions after my first couple of visits and he personally called me when he was in to answer them all. Bedside manner was what it should be from a doctor - all facts and options, questions and discussion. Had an ACDF at C6-C7 almost two weeks ago and am no longer in pain. Also had two co-workers who had have ACDFs done by Dr. Sethi on their lower backs in the past 18 months and their experiences were the same as mine. Dr. Sethi immediately diagnosed my cervical issue. Feb. 1st, I had a cervical fusion C 3-4-5. I received excellent pre op, surgery and post op care. I highly recommend this caring, excellent surgeon. He was recommended to me by several people.

Dr. Sethi performed surgery on my lower back in Oct., 2015. When I went to him I could hardly walk and had much pain which ran down my legs. I feel like Dr. Sethi gave me my life back. After the surgery and physical therapy, I could do everything. It's been almost two years and I am still doing great. He is an excellent surgeon. I would highly recommend him.

I have been the recipient of two surgeries by Dr. Sethi and his gifted hands. The first was nine years ago following a vertebral collapse due to degenerative disc disease. Dr. Sethi did a major reconstruction of my cervical spine, most likely saving me from paralysis. I have had no further problems in the past nine years. The second surgery was a lumbar fusion performed a year ago. The results have been a blessing as I no longer have sciatic pain down my legs and can sleep comfortably.

Dr. Navin Sethi rapidly diagnosed my lumbar disc hernia and did excellent surgery for repair. I went from 10 out of 10 pain level in back and leg to near-zero pain the day after surgery. In addition, the numbness and leg strength are rapidly returning. Dr. Sethi, his team, and Montgomery Medstar hospital in Olney did outstanding work. He has a quiet manner, but just ask him and he gives considerable information.
