4.5 for MD but office staff doesn’t return calls, prior auths don’t get done, some staff are down right rude. I’m still waiting for emails from 2 years ago to be responded to.

Very unprofessional to tell a new patient, who needed a translator, that getting someone who can translate on the phone was a complete waste of his time. Initially, when the appt was 1st made, I confirmed patient needed a Spanish speaking person to translate. Not to mention being on hold over 30 minutes to make an appt! Gosh!!! So might as well find a new doctor!! Ohh and the front office who speaks Spanish said she couldn't translate because if she said something wrong, that the doctor didn't say to tell patient. That we could sue her!! (I understand if she's unable to translate a diagnosis, but if she didn't know how to, she couldn't say hey you have such and such instead right!!! ) IM BEYOND UPSET!! Very unprofessional to tell a new patient, who needed a translator, that getting someone who can translate on the phone was a complete waste of his time. I love the doctor but I am considering finding a new doctor even though I’ve been with him since 2011. There is no way to get through to them on the phone so when there’s a problem or you need refills it’s impossible. The last time I was there they told me they had found the solution for this problem by hiring more people but the pharmacy and I still cannot get through to them and this is been going on for a long time. My significant other has called and made 5 appointments with this doctor since her first visit. She says he is fantastic and it’s clear that he is but being a fantastic doctor that you can’t get in contact with is about as useful wet gunpowder in the barrel of a gun. My significant other has been blown off four appointments in a row due to clerical errors. 1) Not picking up the phone during hours of operation 2) Forgetting to call her on her appointment dates, luckily she would call anyway only to be told that her original appointment time can’t be done and that the doctor would get to her when he could... 6 hours later. (what if you work? pick up your kids? etc. not professional at all.) 3) Placed on hold before a lunch break and being forgotten about (40 minute wait then she hung up) 4) Blaming the doctor for his tardiness as “he’s working from home due to covid and we don’t know what he’s doing”. This ones great because I worked at a hospital and teleconferencing is really no harder than Skype. There is multiple programs that are HIPAA compliant. The doctors I work with rarely miss an appointment as I have it set up for them. I greet the patient when the connection is established and ask them how they are and if anyone else is listening in and so forth. It is so simple and it’s well practiced professional bedside manner. If i can’t get in touch via online, I call. 5) Leaving a voicemail is about as useful as blind man leading a deaf bloke. You are never going to see or hear back. The fifth attempt is what has annoyed me the most. After trying to get an appointment in since August she finally got one, but it was in a months time so we waited patiently. We were so excited as she hasn’t been herself and her pain has been progressively getting worse as she was taken off her medications due to a new healthcare plan and had to re request to see Dr. Neal again from her Primary to be approved for the medications. Fine. Insurance companies are basically the Sherifs of Nottingham... just take what they can basically and let you rot. Anyway, to keep her private I am altering the appointment time. Her appointment was for 10:30am. We got a reminder this time (we were stoked). 10:30am came but no call. 10:45 we call, someone answered then hung up. It’s not hard to say please hold and then press the hold button and switch lines. It really isn’t. We call back... nothing. call again...nothing. We wait until 11:30 and call, but nothing again. lunch time hits and we know they are on lunch, so we respectfully don’t call and wait until lunch is over. We call15 minutes after lunch as you never know, someone may have needed an extra 10. FINALLY. Someone picks up! Significant other gave her name and appointment time and shes simply told that there’s 2 people ahead of us (no apology)... how? if the appointment was at 10:30am (relatively close to the real appointment time I may add +\- 30 min) and it’s now 15 minutes after lunch, how can there be 2 people ahead of her? anyway, she says okay and as long as she gets to hear back from him. 4:30pm. “There’s one person ahead of you”... they close at 5pm... so does that mean that this doctor sees one or two patients a day as his speciality is helping those with serious autoimmune diseases? or did they forget? or do they stack appointments to make as much money as possible incase others cancel? what is going on here? We never got that call... We have officially given up on this Fantastic Doctor and Where to Find Him. I encourage anyone who took the time to read this to go to another doctor not because this man is a bad one, but because at least you will get seen elsewhere. Wonderful doctor. BUT, his entire office staff needs to be fired. Honestly, there are some bad Bryman (et al) graduates out there, but this office is absolutely the worst. This would be a 2 star review, but Dr. Neal is just THAT good.

I was a new patient and Dr Neal spent at least an hour with me. Very thorough and ready to answer questions, not hurried at all. I was told to get to the office 30 minutes before my appt. and filling out forms took all of that. Frustrating that you have to fill out the same personal information twice, on the administrative forms and the medical forms. They said I could have done the forms on the website, but neither the emails I got, nor the confirmation phone call, nor the text message mentioned that. Dr.Neal is the most compassionate and knowledgeable Rheumatologist I have ever been too. As a specialist he also takes into account the whole person including the emotional impact that some illnesses have on a person.. which is somewhat rare with physicians who specialize in one area. I have never felt rushed or not heard, as well as taking his time he always goes over the next plan, or what I can expect. He is a rare gem! I have been with Dr Neal’s office for several years. He always has taken his time with me even though I know he is extremely busy. I receive treatments at the office so spends few hours there because of that. I am able to see the way he rushes between rooms when he finishes with each patient. This being said I also am able to observe how long he spends in the room. I had to move and made sure to stay in area so I could remain his patient. Very caring doctor. I would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Neal has been my Rheumatologist for 20 years. He has eased my pain and kept me mobile. He is up on all the new medication and does research on this awful disease. His staff is great and he doesn't have a large turnover. His office is clean and pleasant Most importantly, he treats you like a human being with dignity and respect. To him you are a real live person, that hurts and he does his best to help you. He is one of the very best people I have ever met. As a physician he is amazing

This office is a nitemare. My first appointment I waited almost two hours to be seen. When I got into the room they couldn't find my paperwork. Also upon checking in I was never greeted until I walked back up again 20 mins later ask for my new patiiwt papework. I needed an authorization for tests to be done. I had to call twice and by the time my appointment came around 3 weeks later they still didn't so the authorization. The front desk gals are very rude and have so empathy.

Truly the worst staff I have ever encountered for the worst condition I've ever suffered. Dr. Neal tries hard but a couple of red flags most importantly my medical records stayed in the computer system in Long Beach and he was not allowed access to them when he moved to Los Alamitos. I also felt he gave me what I wanted for meds, not what he had knowledge of. There are better doctors. Find one.

I would NEVER recommend this dr. to ANYONE!!! ...unless you like to pay or have your insurance pay around $250 per visit to watch him look at the computer, ignore questions & then send you on your way....when I lost my insurance, the treatment was even worse!! His head nurse retired and the girl that took over has NO IDEA how to treat patients or people in general...WORST EXPERIENCE EVER W/A DOCTOR..& that's when I had insurance, now I have medi-cal & the dr's have been GREAT!!! ..go figure!!
