About Dr. Michael A. Yergler
Reviews for Dr. Michael A. Yergler
At every visit the Dr acts VERY bothered by questions that are asked of him and he explains as little as possible. There have been many times that he is downright rude and condescending, both during appointments and even on the day of my surgery! He ALWAYS acts very rushed during the appointments and does not take the time to properly explain things!
Dr. Yergler says he will find out what is wrong with my shoulder after 3 years of constant pain. My consultation did seem rushed. I didn't understand the medical terms but I have hope at this point. He is the last doctor I am trusting!
Dr Yergler and his staff are extremely efficient get right to business in answering questions and get me taken care of. Dr Yerglers experience and knowledge just puts my mind at ease knowing he's got it!!!
Dr Yergler has the experience and knowledge to get your issues taken care of and back to life as soon as possible! Thank you so much!
Dr. M. Yergler very quick to the point. He explained the entire procedure and the rehab needed. Everything was explained in a manner which I could understand. I am currently doing physical therapy and doing well. I am very pleased.

I got the care that I knew that I would get. Dr. Yergler analyzed my pain and felt that he need d to alleviate that first.’ He gave me a shot and I woke up feeling much much better. I will go back in 3 weeks with my ex rays and we will look at permanent solutions. Very pleased with the help I got. He is a very pleasant guy and his staff are professional and kind. I thought he was great! Right to the point!
Dr. Yergler was engaging and thorough in his explanation of his diagnosis of my shoulder, gave all prospective options and his recommendation. He was positive in his manner and I appreciated the time he took to help me understand the extent of my injury and treatment options.

It went very well was very professional
Very good experience. I’m hopeful the cortisone shot will do the trick. I’ll find out in 4 weeks when I have my follow up appointment.
I visited Dr. Yergler for an evaluation of my shoulder. He spent less than 10 minutes of consultation before making recommendations that required surgery on my right shoulder. I was so put off by the lack of viable options and his obvious hurry to get out of the office that I sought a second opinion. The second opinion did not result in surgery but did involve cortizone injection and physical therapy. I have now been pain free for 4 years. This is the second experience and will be the last.
Dr. Michael Yergler was very knowledgeable and got x-rays of my hurting shoulder and neck. He set up an appt. with another physician who specializes in neck pain, Dr. Esch. He also wants me to have an MRI and that was scheduled. At the end of my visit I felt better just knowing we were moving forward in alleviating my pain.

A rotator cuff problem and was given a cortisone shot for the pain which has been a great help. No time for surgery so I hope this works.
went to Dr. Yergler for a second opinion for my right shoulder and ended up with a rotator cuff repair instead of a full shoulder replacement. I am happy with my surgery and Dr. Yergler
He’s a mixed bag. Terrific surgeon, but that’s about it. Things that I appreciated: - he’s confident + clearly knowledgeable. - he’s an excellent surgeon who did great work on my right knee. - his confidence helped me feel more confident about my surgery (which was the right decision) - I do believe he cares. Things that were bad: - very little communication about what to expect post-op + the info I got was not accurate or thorough enough. - he spends next to zero amount of time with you in the exam room. Doesn’t ask how you’re doing or ask if you have questions. Talks more to the scribe than to you. Literally he often stood in the doorway while I had to flag him down to ask questions + he seemed annoyed that I asked them. - I had to constantly seek out information when I had questions in my difficult recovery period. There was not an after-hours line to talk to a physician - I nearly had to go to the ER because of issues that I couldn’t ask a doc about on a weekend.
Dr. Michael Yergler, M. D. South Bend Orthopaedics – Patient Review As someone who has survived stage III cancer and several associated medical issues requiring consultation with numerous local physicians of various disciplines, I have been exceedingly impressed with Dr. Yergler and his professional demeanor. With disabling shoulder issues, I met with Dr Yergler as the direct result of my spouse having his rotator cuff successfully repaired by Dr. Yergler. Upon diagnosis that a torn rotator was the basis of my issues, surgery was performed successfully. After surgery. Dr. Yergler advised that he encountered several tangential issues during surgery that required his attention. He even went so far as to provide me with surgical photos to explain both issues and corrective actions he performed. It has now been 5 years since my surgery and I am exceedingly grateful for the full range of motion I enjoy without pain. I cannot over-state my admiration and respect for Dr. Yergler.
I was in pain for years with my left shoulder but after Dr. Mike fixed it, I have had zero pain! He reattached my bicep, cleaned up frayed tendons, cleaned debris out of the joint, and inspected the rotator (which was okay). After 2 months I am completely healed and I could not be happier! I could have saved myself a lot of pain if I would have seen him years ago. I highly recommend him to everyone.
Michael Yergler is awesome!! I had a shoulder replacement back in November 2020. I was in and out the same day (Unity Hospital) and driving the next day. I never took a pain pill. He was absolutely delightful!!
Dr. Yergler was both professional and personable with dealing with my mother. She can be a difficult patient, as she doesn't like going to Doctors at all. He put her at ease, listened to her, and communicated extremely well with her. He put her at ease and gave her excellent care.
Can’t say enough about the how wonderful and professional Dr. Yergler was throughout my surgery experience! Would highly recommend him to anyone needing surgery!! The entire staff has been nothing but helpful! Thank you!
Dr. Mike Yergler listens to you and your concerns. He is willing to answer all questions. He treats me as a person and not just a medical problem. I highly recommend him and and extremely glad I am a patient of his.
I have seen Dr. Mike Yergler for multiple issues including my shoulders, knees, and hips. He has been extremely helpful and kept me out of surgery for all of my issues. His staff is extremely attentive and friendly. Dr. Mike is very thorough in explaining both my diagnosis and treatment and I appreciate his patience in answering all my questions, I trust him completely and refer all my family and friends to him. He is the best!
Very good bedside manner. No waiting. Explained everything ckearly
He repaired my torn ACL and repaired my medial meniscus tear. Couldn’t be more happy with the work he did. These surgeries gave me the chance to continue playing football. Thank you for the amazing work you’ve done but I do hope I don’t have to see you again. ??
If I could I'd give him 0. He has absolutely no bed side manner. He doesn't give you any time to talk or ask questions. He doesn't care if you get an infection from his surgery. Doesn't call in prescriptions and then argues that he did but doesn't apologize when he realizes he didn't. Consistently accuses you of lying. Will not listen to your symptoms and just says you shouldn't be in pain or having any problems this long after surgery. Got a 2nd opinion and guess what, have to have surgery AGAIN! I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Dr Mike and his entire team are amazing. My right knee was repaired and I have never felt better. He is quick and to the point. Highly recommended. Thanks Doc.
Had surgery in mid may for a torn labrum. 5 months later my shoulder is doing great. Dr. Yergler has been great when it has come to office visits. He answers every question that I've asked him. Would recommend him to anyone who needs shoulder surgery.
Dr. Yergler first operated on my right shoulder in November 2018 . It went very well and such that he also did my left shoulder surgery the end of May 2020 he is wonderful as a surgeon and has a terrific support staff for follow up visits and his connection with South Bend orthopedics for physical therapy had tremendous results for me I’m very happy with his team!
He is gruff and to the point. He didn't explain anything, that said he does great work everyone says my shoulder is like new
Had left shoulder surgery (partial torn labrum & debridement of clavicle); surgery went excellent; Dr. Yergler was detailed in his explanation of the procedure and post-surgery care; my recovery has been well ahead of schedule and I have to credit that to Dr. Yergler's successful operation on my shoulder.
Dr. Yergler is a great orthopedic doc. He is extremely knowledgeable and eager to help his patients. He is confident with his abilities and efficient! He has treated many members of my family. We all received excellent care!
I had a great experience and outcome from Dr Yergler. I had a anterior dislocation, along with multiply soft tissue tears/damage. Had surgery in August (Minimally invasive, all done through port holes with a scope ) was back to full athletics by end of November, that spring I completed in a full Ironman. Nothing but praise for getting me back to normal.
I had a broken collar bone repaired by Dr. Yergler. I trusted his decision about the need for surgery. He worked with me about scheduling surgery on a day that worked with my busy schedule. He explained my followup care very well and even went so far as to call me the day after surgery to check on me. I couldn't be more happy with Dr. Yergler and all the staff at SBO for their professional and friendly way of caring for their patients. I have recommended him to anyone needing medical care in this field. Dr. Mike Yergler is simply the best!
I tore both ACLs. Dr. Yergler went above and beyond in caring for bilateral knee surgery. We had two successful surgeries. His bedside manner was great. Always professional but made sure to ask how I was feeling throughout the entire process. (It ended up being around six months.) he answered any and all questions and I had, and still does that from time to time if I need help with my knees. If I ever need another orthopedic procedure done again, I will go back to Dr. Yergler.
Excellent, I had a rotator cuff and bicep tear in February 2020. During my first visit until my Pre-op visit , Dr. Mike Yergler explained the diagnosis, treatment plan and any surgical questions I had. Surgery May 2020. After surgery, once the nerve block wore off I had little to no pain (as he also indicated prior too). During my 1st Post-op visit and all other visits, I have received excellent care. Any questions or concerns that I have are answered. Dr. Mike Yergler and his staff are very attentive and professional. I am currently still in therapy and doing great. Dr. Mike Yergler comes highly recommended as he has performed surgery on several of my family members as well, who are all doing great post surgery. I personally would recommend Dr. Mike Yergler in the future.
I've had two successful surgeries with Dr. Yergler Broken ankle, and most recent being a complete rupture of quadricep. I feel like Dr. Mike made very good decisions with my care, and I always left his office with a complete understanding of my current condition. Dr. Yergler kept both of my recoveries right on schedule, and answered all my questions with enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
Echoing what many have said here about the lack of time Dr. Yergler spent with me (maybe about a minute). He also hurt my shoulder when he was moving it, but ignored me when I said that it had popped. Later in the follow-up notes, I saw that he thought he was seeing me for shoulder "pain" when I went in for shoulder instability. He never asked what was wrong so I assume that's where the confusion arose.
I promise you that you are not a priority patient to this doctor if you are not a Notre Dame athlete. He will not listen to you. This facility has too many patients. They are quick to get you in and out.
It’s very concerning to me when a doctor isn’t confident with a procedure. He is cocky and rude. One of the poor nurses stated that she has been here for many years and he still did not know her name. There are so many complaints of him not having bedside manners and rushing everything. He gets very frustrated when you ask a question. With all of this being said, he’s so quick to do another surgery which I will not let that happen. I will go somewhere else before he ever touches me again.
I had shoulder surgery approximately one year ago, completed all my rehab and resumed normal physical activities as I was advised....my shoulder is not any better than before surgery. Dr. Mike Yergler did not speak to me after my surgery nor did I ever see him in any follow ups.
He doesn’t spend time with patients. He is in and out of the office within seconds without answering patient’s questions.
I have never had a doctor spend so little time with me, and ignore crucial issues. I specified that certain painkillers did not work on me, yet they prescribed me the exact medication I said not to. I ended up in excruciating pain less than 48 hours after my surgery, and no one at the office would give me the time of day. I ended up in the ER, and the physicians there had to call in order for Dr. Yergler to help me. Absolutely ridiculous service, do not waste your time on this doctor.
Dr. Yergler rebuilt my shoulder in 2002 after a radical dislocation with torn labrum and ligament. 15 years later, still going strong!

He might be a great doctor if your a Norte Dame Football player. Otherwise he doesn't seem to care about his patients. He must have a bigger head about himself than Norte Dame itself! My husband tried asking him a question as he was walking out of the room after seeing him for 2 minutes! Thanks for your time by the way. He stood IN THE DOORWAY as my husband was trying to talk to him. We don't even think he looked at his entire X-Ray, his shoulder is messed up according to the E.R. but he says no

Family member had a rotator cuff repair surgery and ended up leaving with staph infection that resulted in having to get 2 wash-out surgeries (to wash out the infection), a reverse rotator cuff repair surgery, and then 1 year later- a complete rotator cuff replacement due to all the bone that was eaten away by the infection. Horrible and disgusting! Will never recommend anyone to go here ever!

Very unhappy with Dr. Yergler....I had surgery in December for a tear in my miniscus. He said he saw no osteoarthritis and I probably would never need a knee replacement... after surgery I was in more pain then before then ever!! Went back to him got an injection which didn't help. The new xray showed I was bone on bone! Then got a Synvisc infection and was told if that doesn't work then I need a replacement! He was always in too big of a hurry to explain anything or answer questions!
