Dr. Michael D Whitaker

Dr Whitaker is an excellent doctor. I have a goiter with multiple nodules and have been seen by many providers/endocrinologists in the past. I was having annual ultrasounds and biopsies [benign]. I'm a PA myself and I thought my goiter was a bit odd but I tested negative for the typical things, Graves etc. When I moved to the area, I figured I'd establish care with the Mayo clinic and see what their thoughts were. I'm glad I did because Dr Whitaker knew what was going on right away. My lab findings were very subtle but Dr Whitaker recognized the abnormalities quickly. He ordered a nuclear medicine scan, a test which is a test many institutions do not perform, and it revealed that I had toxic nodules. The diagnosis was made with only one visit a few tests. What a difference it made to see Dr Whitaker! I'm extremely grateful for his knowledge at thoughtfulness and I'd highly recommend him to anyone.

This doctor should not be practicing. It's difficult to understand how Mayo keeps him on staff. He is dismissive, rude, insulting, contradictory, unsympathetic, and arrogant. He criticizes other providers, but makes basic misstates himself, one of which he criticized previous providers of doing. When you try to get information or clarity from him because he has been evasive, he gets visibly upset and makes a statement and minutes later says the opposite. I am very uncomfortable that doctors of his low quality are still practicing.

Tired, disinterested, old man. A detriment to the Mayo standard of excellence. Thank God he's not in oncology!

Worst experience EVER! My mother is going through cancer treatment and it causes her to have high glucose. Dr. Whitaker was the on call doctor and was completely RUDE, unprofessional and not helpful. He gives Mayo Clinic a bad name.

Probably knowledgeable enough, but unwilling to listen well, disinterested in my input, and also demeaning and rude in his manner and tone of voice. I thought his report was an inaccurate account of our visit.

Dr. Whitaker is great! The discussion had with him about my health conditions were crisp, clean and on point...which I really appreciate. I asked some very pointed questions and he gave me direct answers. Additionally, his medical report tied EXACTLY to what we discussed and I was on board with. He’s no BS when it comes to medicine! Furthermore, his bedside manner is very good...pleasant and professional. Additionally, I think he has a good sense of humor as he chuckled when I quipped in response to some of his questions. Would give Dr Whitaker a zero or less, if possible. He is dismissive and accusatory. It was my fault that I was put on a medication by a well respected endo in another state before moving to AZ. Apparently Dr W doesn't think that med is useful. I surely did. Made me feel better. My symptoms were irrelevant, as a thyroid patient, T4 lab was the only driver for treatment. What a frustrating waste of time and money. Patients are humans. We are in your office because we don't feel well. If you're not interested in helping, Dr W, just stay home.

I've interacted with a wide variety of medical professionals over the years because I have had friends and family with serious medical conditions. Dr. Whitaker deserves a negative rating. He was not receptive to my questions and dismissed any desire to get to the root of my problem. It was clear based on my blood tests that I have hypothyroidism. His knowledge and expertise are extremely outdated and contrary to updated research in his field. He prescribes medication as the ONLY solution. I only wish I had read the reviews prior to my appointment so I didn't waster my time.

I work in the medical field and have worked with many physicians, highly renowned sub specialists. I see the quality of care these physicians provide. Dr Whitaker rudely goes through the motions. We caught him in several untruths.ie; telling me cardiology didnt gave to discuss my case for several weeks because they were busy. We, however found he was going on vacation for several weeks after my visit. He barely put two sentences together in his visit notes which inhibited the continuity of care. Perhaps it's time for him to hang up his stethoscope, as its apparent he has no compassion for his patients nor interest in his profession.

Dr Whitaker is a disgrace to the medical community!

Rushed. Course of medication decided before interview...for all the doctor-patient interaction that occurred I might as well have not been in the room. Dismissive of any patient opinions (how dare you think to determine a possible course of action relating to your own condition!) Afflicted with the unfortunate I-am-God syndrome more common among surgeons. Presciption: empathy pills; take one/day, followed by a course of humbleness.

Probably experienced but Dr. Whitaker is on the dismissive side. He doesn't reference complaints adequately. Once he has formed an idea which is right away, it looks like he wants to confirm this idea more than he wants to find out what is really wrong with you.
