About Dr. Michael William Smith
Reviews for Dr. Michael William Smith
He answers any of my questions on my list. His office staff is also very good. When I have a flare they generally respond to my call and get it resolved.
This physician indicated I was not diagnosed with an autoimmune condition that several doctors had confirmed. I certainly wish I did not have this condition. I do not recommend Dr. Smith and believe he needs additional education to address his lack of professional knowledge.

First time seeing Dr. Smith. He explained everything in layman's terms; just a great bedside manner. He took his time, never did I feel rushed. So glad he was the doctor that was chosen for me by my PCP. I highly recommend Dr. Smith if you are looking for a great doctor.
Nicest man , takes his time , very knowledgeable! Always puts me back on track to feeling better!!
Dr. Smith is thorough with his questions, a great listener, ensures you have excellent care. Highly recommend.
Failed to diagnose rheumatoid arthritis in a patient who already had a diagnosis and been successfully treated for rheumatoid arthritis. I’ve seen and had my diagnosis confirmed by three other rheumatologists (in the three different states I’ve lived in since my diagnosis). I respond exceptionally well to my medication, which only treats RA. I deteriorated dramatically and experienced tremendous pain as I waited to see a competent rheumatologist. After two weeks on the proper medication (which, again, only treats RA), I was improving. He didn’t even know all of the symptoms of RA. He said one of my symptoms, which the competent doctor noticed and commented upon immediately before I mentioned it (it can literally be seen by the naked eye) wasn’t a symptom of RA. The Mayo Clinic lists it as a common symptom. He didn’t listen, he didn’t know what he was talking about, he was condescending, and he failed at his job. Attentive and kind and willing to work with you regarding office visits when copays are high.
Dr. Smith is the kind of doctor I wish had found years ago. He is thoughtful, intelligent and caring. For the first time in a long time I felt like a doctor was really listening to me and not rushing to move onto the next patient. He's incredibly knowledgable about current meds, studies, and discoveries. Totally recommend him!!!!
I've seen Dr. Smith in both the Wornall office and the Lee's Summit office. He's such an attentive, knowledgeable, and above all gentle doctor! I was diagnosed a few years ago with mild RA and recently my pain had increased. He was so kind and helpful during the examination (when he had to "poke and prod") that I only experienced minor discomfort. He was quick to get things rolling on confirming a diagnosis (fibromyalgia as well as osteoarthritis in my back) with x-ray orders, a very low impact exercise plan, and additional medication. He said he didn't believe I suffered from what I am have been diagnosed with by 2 top doctors in their profession. I was not currently having a "flare" when I first saw him. on my second visit I brought along my records from the retired doctors and he seemed shocked to read the findings and then wanted to change his tune. I was already done with him. Now I am not allowed to "cross the practice" to the Doctor my primary wants me to see because I have seen Michael and I am "his patient".
Dr. Smith treats his patients with compassion, and is very thorough in assessing problems, explaining treatment options, and monitoring one closely so that he can adjust treatment when needed. He doesn't hesitate to order a test or xray when warranted. My quality of life has been very good while under his care for the past several years. I am so thankful to have this intelligent and responsive doctor successfully managing my disease, and I highly recommend him to others!
Excellent diagnostician and incredible bedside manor. Spent an entire hour just reviewing all my records. Very intelligent, knowledgable and thorough. I wish all my doctors cared about me as much as Dr. Smith.

I was a patient for years of Dr Michael Smith. Found out through my pharmacist that he’s no longer my doctor when they called about a refill. No letter. No call. No nothing. His nurse offered “I can’t help you”. He left me without so much as a referral or pain management plan. I hope people think twice before going to him. He may act as though he cares but he doesn’t. I have grown up in the hospital: having open heart surgeries beginning at age 1, then being diagnosed with a rheumatic disease at 11... I grew up with military parents and it was easy to get a solid doctor. Yet I have aged out of those benefits and it was a struggle to find any good specialist for either.. Yet thankfully, I was referred to Dr. Smith for my rheumatic disease 2 years ago and he is truly an amazing. Such a pleasant guy who reassures you that things will all be okay- with a "we will get through this together" kind of attitude. Really recommend seeing him if you're in need of such a specialist! I was a patient for several years. He decided not to treat me anymore which I found out from the pharmacist when they called for a refill. No letter or call or anything. Left me with no pain treatment plan or referral. He acts like he cares. He says the right things in the beginning but he showed his true self. Very unprofessional.

Dr. Smith was very friendly and courteous. He took time to go over all of my labs and records and explained everything to me in detail. He was able to diagnose and treat my condition that I'd been suffering with for over a year. I have the highest confidence and trust in his ability and treatment.

Dr Smith does not care about his patients the way a professional should. There is no ongoing evaluation or communication and if you are hurting and need to get in, you can't get in for months. The practice is so overcrowded, that the treatment suffers and the patient care is nonexistent. If questioned, Dr. Smith will get angry and defensive. I would highly recommend any other doctor that actually has time to treat you properly.
My primary doctor wanted me to be seen because of a concern. Took 2 months to be seen, and was a total waste of my time. Took my adult daughter with me and when we walked out, we had more questions than answers. He dogged my primary doctor for the "unnecessary concern", and said my hemotologist was treating me with the wrong meds. And then told me that all previous test results were wrong. He retested me and got same results. Will never refer anyone to him! Felt that I was an inconvenience

I was treated horribly the receptionist literally told me yes we take Medicare but not for disabilities. She didn't understand that I had Medicare because I am disabled and can not get a medicare supplemental policy since supplements are for people over 65 and I don't qualify for that so she canceled my appointment after I waited 6 weeks and drove over 100 miles. Of course they charge if you miss an appt but I didnt get reimbursed and I did ask!
