A few years ago I saw dr newman. As a person of color, we all know that we have trust issues with doctors in America due to how they’ve treated people of color in medicine horribly for years. I tend to ask a lot of questions about very detail oriented aspects due to the anxiety I have with doctors. Dr newman answered all my questions thoroughly and was always available via a phone call away or a text. He can have a bit of a sharp/curt sense of humor and personality; don’t take it personally. He is very smart and he knows exactly what he’s doing and he does it well. He is classy, respectful, and easy to share your concerns with. If you’re a person of color with dark skin: black, afro-latina, south Asian with dark skin etc. do not feel worried under his care. He is one of the rare good ones in this town filled with scammers.

Dr. Newman is a wonderful doctor. He has been caring, compassionate, and informative throughout my entire treatment. I got diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2021 and he has been amazing over the last 18 months getting me back to my old self. He was able to reconstruct both my breast after my double mastectomy with a diep flap and fat transfer. I was extremely scared and nervous but he made me feel comfortable and confident in his abilities to give me the best possible result. I feel amazing and confident again after being scared I wouldn't look the same. My results have given me the strength to feel beautiful after having both breasts removed. I recently got my breast augmentation with Dr. Newman 2 months ago. I was a little nervous, but I knew I ultimately really wanted to get my breast done. I did a lot of research to find a surgeon and Dr. Newman stood out to me, and I was also referred to Dr. Newman from a friend who also had a breast augmentation. When I first met him during my consultation, him and his staff made me feel very comfortable and welcoming. He was very friendly and understood what results I wanted (a more natural look) and worked with me to find a great size for my body. In addition, he was very informative throughout the process. Dr. Michael Newman and his staff are a very amazing team. They made me feel welcome from the minute I walked into their office. I was very nervous coming into his office to speak to him about my first Rhinoplasty, let alone my first surgery in general. In April of 2021 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and started the overwhelming process of surgery, treatment plans and choosing my healthcare team. I'm so grateful to have found Dr. Newman, who approached my health challenge with such sensitivity and skill. Initially my path was simple with only 1 lumpectomy needed, but it turned out to be more complicated with multiple re-excisions needed as well as reconstruction surgery. My breast cancer surgeon highly recommended Dr Newman due to his experience, expertise and the exceptional results he's achieved in breast cancer reconstruction. At our first meeting Dr Newman went into detail on my reconstructive options and backed up all decisions with very compelling up to date data and breast cancer statistics. I was very anxious during this decision making process and felt Dr Newman was able to recognize this and offer recommendations in a very calm and reassuring manner. While assessing options he recommended a breast reduction, which at the time I had not considered, but it ended up being a wonderfully life changing decision. I had been delaying breast implant removal for over 10 years. The accumulation of scar tissue on my left breast had become painful and was preventing me from regular mammograms. The last mammogram I had was so painful I knew I couldn't have another until I had surgery. In addition I found myself unable to wear certain dresses and tops because I was lopsided. I live in Scottsdale and have a pool. I have sported a bikini all of my life. Not for the last 5 years. Wearing a Bikini was out of the question. Trying to camouflage my appearance had become increasingly difficult and I was incredibly self conscious. I remember the day I walked in the door for my consultation with my right breast considerably lower than the left and the left as hard as a rock. In my mind I was deformed. For years I had dressed and undressed away from my husband and now I was going to have to unveil this lopsided mess. I was a wreck. Dr. Newman has a comfortable way about him. He eased my anxiousness and embarrassment. Even though I shed a tear or two, I was relieved I met him that day. His assurance made me feel hopeful and confident this situation could be fixed. My case wasn't the normal breast implant surgery. I'm complicated. My implants needed to be removed, scar tissue removed, new implants added and mesh to lift my breasts. I thought there wasn't a chance I would ever look decent in a bathing suit. That was one month ago. Today I couldn't be happier! I look normal again. No, I look better than normal! During my last check up Dr. Newman shared the photos of the scar tissue that was removed. It was just as large as the implants themselves. He also showed me all the built up calcification around one implant. He had sent the scar tissue to the lab for cancer screening. Thankfully, no cancer. From the photos I got a sense of the work he and his team had done while I was fast asleep. I am so grateful. In the past 35 years I have gone through 2 breast implant surgeries. I know what the experiences were then, the before and after care, and my end results. There is no comparison to this experience. I have had such a wonderful experience with Dr Newman and the staff at South Bay Plastic Surgeons! In April I had a tummy tuck procedure with Dr Newman and a hernia repair with a Dr he recommended. He made me feel comfortable and at ease from the very beginning. He took his time talking to me about how the procedure would go, showed me pictures of someone with a similar body type that had the same procedure done, and answered all my questions. Before a friend recommended him to me, I had had consultations with two other plastic surgeons. My experience with other surgeons was not nearly the same! There seemed to be an arrogance or ego with both other surgeons and Dr Newman is not that way at all! Instead of talking about how great he was, he focuses on his patient and making them feel comfortable and excited for their result. After our initial consultation, Dr Newman spoke with several surgeons about doing my hernia repair at the same time as my tummy tuck. He personally called me when he found the doctor that he felt had the best approach to fixing my hernia. After seeing this Dr (who I also loved!), his assistant Stephanie coordinated my surgery with the hernia surgeons schedule. Stephanie was easy to get a hold of, and called me back promptly when I called her. My surgery went extremely well! I am over the moon happy with my results. I am 35 years old and had 4 children in 3.5 years, including a set of twins. My stomach was so big when I was pregnant with the twins that it looked fake. I had so many stretch marks and tons of loose skin. I work out 5-7 days a week and maintain a healthy diet. My weight had returned to my prepregnancy weight but I always looked 3 months pregnant. I had corrected my diastis recti drastically through exercise, but still had a gap I couldn’t close. When I wore jeans or yoga pants, my skin would hang over the top. Now my stomach is flatter than it has ever been! All of my loose skin is gone. I am 6 weeks post op and can’t believe this is my new stomach! Over a year ago, I had had some reconstructive surgery done on my arm by Dr. Newman and I was really happy with the outcome of that procedure that several surgeons were hesitant to perform for me before. About a month ago, Dr. Newman performed a cosmetic procedure to improve the look of the reconstructive surgery form the previous year. The result was just AMAZING! For those of you researching a plastic surgeon, you are now reading a review about Dr. Michael K. Newman. Note: my first surgery was completed by another plastic surgeon but due to COVID and scheduling issues, I sought out another plastic surgeon closer to my home. Dr. Newman performed a revision to my initial reconstruction after my mastectomy, which most plastic surgeons will tell you is not unusual after your initial reconstruction. The reason being, as our bodies heal and the swelling goes down, implants and the surrounding anatomy may need to be modified. In my situation, the pocket that was created to place my implant was too large and needed to be made smaller because there was too much movement and it was uncomfortable. Also, the size of the implant was also not the optimal size for my body shape, so it also needed to be replaced. Dr. Newman and his staff were excellent in making me feel comfortable and listened very carefully to my concerns about what I was not comfortable with after my first surgery. He modified my pocket and also did some fat grafting from my hips to smooth the contour around my implant. Today, I could not be happier with the results which have translated into a much better self image and I feel that my implant is an integral part of my body which I did not feel like the first time around. I can not say enough good things about Dr. Michael K. Newman! I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in November and had to digest the earth shattering news that I was going to lose my breasts at 37. Dr. Newman came highly recommended as a seasoned reconstructive surgeon and it showed. First he put me at ease by showing me a myriad of photos of bi-lateral mastectomy success stories and reassured me that he would do his very best to make sure I had a similar result. He made sure I was comfortable and well informed throughout the entire process from pre-op to day-of to post-op check ups. 6 months later I am blown away with my "makeover!" My breasts are easily more beautiful than they were before. He was able to salvage my nipples and create a beautiful shape. They are so perky! Most people find an Oncologist first, then a Surgical Oncologist, then the Plastic Surgeon. I went through the process backwards. I met with a Surgical Oncologist that was good, but I wasn’t comfortable with the Plastic Surgeon she recommended. The images he had in his portfolio didn’t look natural to me. I called Southbay Plastic Surgeons on a whim based on reviews. The woman who answered the phone (Angie) was helpful right from the start. She said that all their doctors are amazing, but when I asked her if there is someone she would choose to work on her if she were in the same situation, she said Dr. Newman. “He’s our youngest doctor. Everybody loves him.” To reassure me, she asked me to pick out images of other cancer patients whose results I liked. I emailed her a list with links and it turned out that the image I was most impressed with was Dr. Newman’s work. I can’t recommend him enough. I had some concerns about shape and size, but he really works with you to find change you’re comfortable with while maintaining natural results. Dr. Newman was not only kind and attentive, he was also a perfectionist. He even recommended an amazing Surgical Oncologist from City of Hope. I ended up having a double mastectomy (avoiding radiation), expanders, then reconstruction. It was the most painful process I’ve had to go through physically and mentally, but it was made better knowing I had the best care possible. Two months after the last surgery, I went to get fitted for new bras. The woman couldn’t tell I had a mastectomy until I showed her the scars underneath. She said whoever did the work was phenomenal. Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis was devastating. I wasn’t even 40 yet, was in a new relationship, and had no immediate family that lived in the same state for support. I spent the first few days frantically searching for doctors. Despite the alcohol and crying fits, this was a very thorough search. I read through testimonials, called offices, and visited potential doctors. What I didn’t know before the diagnosis is that good doctors tag team. This means, if you find a Surgical Oncologist you trust, that Surgical Oncologist has a go-to Plastic Surgeon that they trust as well. The first surgery (double mastectomy), if you decide to go with expanders and later implants, is done in two parts. I am a week and a half post op after having breast augmentation surgery with Dr. Newman. I can just say how glad I am that I chose him as my surgeon!! I had spent a really good amount of time and effort looking and researching who were the best surgeons available for this type of procedure. I took time to review the experience of each Dr. I researched and all I can say is that I came across many Dr's that self glorified their work and experience BUT when I got to read their patients reviews....many times very disappointing stories and sometimes horror stories! My wife had a bilateral mastectomy 2 years ago and Dr. Newman did a perfect job in the reconstruction. She looks and feels great due to his attention to detail and unbelievable skill set. She looks incredible both dressed and undressed and no one can tell she even had surgery. I found Dr. Newman to be extremely easy to talk to and had full confidence in his ability to perform my procedure with a successful outcome. All of my encounters from my first visit through several post-procedure followup appointments have been easy and uncomplicated. Dr. Newman is the best!! When I was diagnosed with breast cancer almost three years ago I told them I wanted the A-Team for my surgeons. Dr. Newman is definitely the A-Team. He was part of my surgery team for my double mastectomy and did all of my reconstruction which included a 13 hour flap surgery. His office is beautiful and staff is amazing. Shout out to Claudia!! Dr. Newman and his staff are great! I searched a year to find the right PS to discuss my implant removal and I have to say that he took the most time getting to know me and what I was hoping to accomplish. HE made me feel comfortable & confident in my decision (not at first - I took a year to make my decision to move forward), but once I was ready, I knew I wanted Dr. Newman to so the procedure. I knew I could count on him to do right for me! Plus, having the surgical center in the same building is great! I will be forever grateful to Dr. Newman for the amazing job he did with my reconstructive surgery. His sweet and calm demeanor made a challenging situation, much easier. I LOOOVE DR. NEWMAN For all my life I've been insecure, depress because my breast were oversized and now since I had surgery with Dr. Newman I'm more spicy, more athletic. Dr. Newman did my reconstructive surgery after a double mastectomy for breast cancer. He is incredibly kind and an extremely good listener. Dr. Michael K. Newman is without question one of the most technically brilliant, personally kind and humanly approachable plastic surgeons working today. Online reviews that overflow with superlatives tend to bring out the skeptic in me. And yet here I am, hoping you the reader, will carefully consider mine. I was so fortunate to have Dr. Newman as my reconstructive surgeon as I dealt with the unexpected diagnosis of breast cancer. Dr. Newman is a great doctor. He does amazing work and makes a very difficult situation easy to get through. Everyone who heard that he was my doctor would say to me, "oh, you're so lucky!" I would highly recommend Dr. Newman to anyone for reconstructive and/or plastic surgery. He really is the best.

I recently had the DIEP procedure due to breast cancer. Dr. Newman is kind, caring and takes his time to explain the procedure as well to answer any questions you may have. He is immaculate in his work and a true perfectionist and artist. I am very please with the results.

You discover the real rock stars in the business. Michael Newman is that rock star. Going through Brest cancer is a long journey and not an easy one, so many new people to meet and guide you. Quite a few stand out in my book, and Dr. Newman was definitely one of them from day one! Him and his staff have the greatest personality, very polite, and give you the best feeling of knowing that you are in "great hands". My process required expanders due to radiation treatment, yet he said " don't worry" and I have not since. On Monday 28th I had my reconstruction surgery, so far everything is going according to plan and I still don't worry since I know that this man is a perfectionist and I am positive I will love my end results. I went to see Dr. Newman for a breast reduction, lift, and nipple repair. Initially, I was very embarrassed but Dr Newman was very professional and made me feel comfortable and at ease quickly. His smile, sense of humor, and his ability to make you feel at ease was such a wonderful experience. He is patient and goes well beyond to ensure you understand the procedure. Also, his post-op care was exceptional . I could not not be happier with my results. It was a great experience.

I could not be more pleased with my revision procedure performed by Dr. Michael Newman. My result is everything I had hoped for. The entire staff at SBPS is professional, helpful and courteous. My only caveat to a perfect review is their use of the Surgery Center of South Bay where I was treated abruptly pre-op by the nurse on duty and hustled out post-op without instructions when my husband picked me up. The practice will be opening its own surgical center center soon. Grade:A

Dr. Newman spent time to answer all my questions. He provided pictures, drawings and even provided sample implants so that I could see how they would look. He was very attentive and patient. The results from my lift and implants are wonderful. Even the surgical staff recommended him, which was re-assuring. He has a great sense on humor which put me at ease, yet is very professional. I would recommend him to all my friends and family.

After my second child, I started researching doctors in preparation for a breast augmentation & possible breast lift. I went to 4 different doctors, all of whom were recommended to me by friends, family or colleagues. I chose Doctor Newman because of all the doctors I consulted with, he was the one that I felt had MY best interest in mind at all times. Dr. Newman performed my septo/rhinoplasty in June 2015. The procedure was half cosmetic and half medically necessary but both portions were a complete success and I could not be happier. Dr. Newman was not only able to improve the aesthetics of my nose but also improved my ability to breathe. Dr. Newman and his staff are friendly, efficient and informative in addition to being such a comfort throughout a process I expected to be so uncomfortable.

The unknowns of surgery are scary and the process of finding the right surgeon is even scarier.
