Michael Nakao

My husband has been seeing Dr. Nakao for sleep apnea for many years. Because of a abnormal ct scan, we we're in need of a biopsy of the lung. Intervention radiology was unable to do it because of the location of the tumor, needed a pulmonologist to do the procedure. Nakao came into the room talking about adjusting my husbands cpap machine. The receptionist new why we where there. Nakao never looked at the notes,chart or records. After talking to us he went and looked at the records.scan and advised us we had multiple spots on the lungs, I asked how many , he counted 10 , we are already shocked by my husbands ct scan, and to be told so coldly he doesnt do biopsy but might be able to reach out to someone at Albany med. But was having a procedure himself, so wouldn't be around for 6 weeks he cant do cant do anything but order a pet scan. Told us to make a follow up apt and left. My husband has been going to Dr. Nakao for several years. I am very upset that his telephone calls to this office are not returned. He was recently told a nodule was found on his lung or lungs. The call was made by a nurse rather than the doctor. The information was scant, there were no reassurances or any information regarding size or anything. My husband was left scared and anxious. We asked that the doctor call and were told he would. Nothing. The nurse has been called twice. Never a call back. There is no reason to treat patients this way. I am surprised that the other reviewers did not say WHY they gave the ratings they did about Dr. Nakao, as they left no descriptions of why they were dissatisfied. My experience was quite a bit different. I had been to 4 doctors who diagnosed me with four different illnesses, but they we're not able to help me at all over the last five years. I went to see Dr. Nakao, and he looked into all of the other doctors information and was able to spend the time to really dig in to what was going on with me. Even though it took a little time., he give me a correct diagnosis and treated me accordingly. I have never felt better.Thank you, Dr. Nakao! Excellent! Dr. Nakao was able to diagnose something that I have spent four years getting diagnosed by other doctors who couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. He nailed it, treated me, and I have never felt better. Not perfect, but better. Office staff seemed a little brusque.

Diagnosed my very rare, life threatening illness when other doctors weren’t even convinced I was sick, and got me treated before I had any permanent lung damage. He’s the kind of doctor you usually only see on TV; he really cares about and advocates for his patients and is willing to research when the diagnosis isn’t immediately obvious, which is something many doctors unfortunately lack when dealing with patients with unusual symptoms.

I found that Dr. Nakao's communication skills were lacking. He spoke very unclearly and when I could understand him he seemed condescending. I cannot speak to the accuracy of his diagnoses or treatment modalities, (one visit is not enough to make the judgment) but I left without a feeling of trust.

Told Doctor I would feel like I was going to pass out after a short 5 minute walk. Dr Nakao told me to walk to the point of passing out and then do it all over again. 2 weeks later I was in the hospital with a heart blockage. Not a Doctor to trust.

Dr. Nakao was very pleasant, interested, unhurried, intelligent.

Excellent experience. Researched and discovered my illness that nobody else was able to identify. Very nice and explained things clearly and completely. Wait time was a little long, but that's to be expected these days.
