Dr Mai is a genius and enabled me to walk without pain again! Replaced both my hips in 2007/2008 and have had no problems. The review is about Dr Mai, the front office/scheduling team was a nightmare even then. Dr Mai, however, is a bonafide superstar.

Dr. Mai did a 2nd knee replacement for me in 12/19. I have no knee cap from a previous fall/surgery. In a follow up appointment after the surgery I asked why my knee still hurt so badly every time I moved it or got up and down. His explanation was that he took it upon himself to "fashion me a knee cap" using excess flesh. And he then said that the excess flesh gets caught in the metal function of the knee each time, causing the flesh to be pinched. He said that "i would just get used to it." It is now 16 months later and I am in unbearable pain with every movement. I have seen 2 pain management people, had the nerve in that knee burned to stop the pain (didn't work) and am facing a life of house confinement because of the constant pain. I can't drive as it is my right knee and just the back and forth movement using the pedals is too painful to handle. So, be advised that he took it upon himself to do something with long range effects to my body and no thought of the consequences.

I attended my pre-OP appt. This was my 3 scheduled appointment that waited 1 1/2 - 2 hrs for my busy Dr. If I'm 15 mins late my appt is rescheduled. I was early for my appointment. I received a ph call 6 days before surgery from the surgeons medical assistant asking questions requested by Dr Haddad the anesthesiologist for my up coming surgery. The medical assistant stated I don't understand your responses. I offered to speak more slowly. The MA said , that won't help I don't understand what your telling me. The next day I was notified by the same MA, my needed surgery was canceled. I asked why, the MA said " I don't know why your surgery was canceled ". My rotator cuff is completely torn and my shoulder is fractured. I'm in a lot of pain... apparently that doesn't matter. Dr Mai , be technically wonderful. I don't know. I am no longer comfortable placing my life in his hands or an anesthesiologist to busy to screen surgurical candidates directly.

Some of the doctors are good but the front desk medical receptionists are another story. They are the first impression of the office. I do not understand why they cannot be more friendly and try to be accomadating as much as possible. It doesn't matter if you are here at the office in person or over the phone. I can wait over an hour for a physician on a regular basis but if you are late then they punish you. The only nice thing I can say is that they have a after hours "urgent" care that is open off Magnolia until 9:00pm. Dr. Mai is nice, but I have to judge him on the basis of the results. He scoped both of my knees, and zero change in symptoms. I don't think he listens well. The things he "corrected" can't possibly account for my symptoms.

The receptionist was rude. Then tried to tell me the wait was going to be 2 hours. I suspected she was lying, trying to get me to leave. Funny, they called me 10 minutes after I finished my paperwork... Then the doctor was rude! She kept interrupting me, and was treating me like a drug addict. I've had chronic back pain for almost 10 years now. When it flares up, I normally take pain medicine so I can walk. That's only until I can get to a chiropractor for a few weeks, and when the pain gets manageable, I stop those medications. I've NEVER had a history of taking more than prescribed, or abusing them. And the only reason why I came here, is because I was out of town. The doctor also told me the federal law, now states that only pain management locations can prescribe pain medication. I don't know if that's the case or not, but I also suspect that wasn't true... The way I was treated was insulting. I won't be back. The receptionist was rude. Excellent skill and care, his instructions about recovery are comprehensive and detailed.Also a very nice person with smile all the time, which comforts patients so much. Fantastic doctor! Highly recommended!

I was impressed with Dr. Mai's knowledge base, his bedside manner, and his interest and concern in the patient. Prior to scheduling an appointment I read his background information, which was impressive. I highly recommend Dr. Mai.

Dr. Michael Mai has a terrible scheduling team and/or the Dr. Himself does not know how to prioritize his appointments. My husband had to bring our 4 year old in at 11:15am for an appointment and did not get called back until 1pm! To wait for an hour and 45 minutes is absurd. I would recommend finding another dr.'s office if you need orthopedic. Worst service ever!! Dr. Mai has great bedside manners. He's gentle, soft spoken and very knowledgeable. He told me exactly what to expect before getting my left knee surgery. He is patience, kind and answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend Dr Mai for your surgical needs.
