Dr. Michael J. Gillman

Dr. Gillman is an outstanding Orthopedic surgeon with a great bedside manner. He explains all procedures and answers all questions. Everyone in his office is kind and caring which I deeply appreciated. I feel blessed that I was referred to him and I highly recommend him.

Dr. Gilman performed Meniscus repair surgery on my knee 9 months ago and it is worse off than before the surgery. My pain and stiffness has taken over my daily life ever since my surgery. I followed all the recovery directions and I’m worse off than before the surgery. Dr. Gilman ruined my knee.

HORRIBLE staff! Dr. Gillman told me I would have an order put in for a CT scan and also prescribed me meds. The brain scan was never put in, and the meds were never sent to my pharmacy. I am going on day 4 of calling the front office and being told they'll "tell Yvette" but then NOTHING!!! Also, who is Yvette? Lol... Wave imaging called me saying I couldn't be seen because they never got the order. I have called days in a row with no answers and no call backs and this is slowly down my process for recovery and figuring out whats wrong w/ me. Also the staff is so rude and unfriendly, you would think they would know us patients are going through some traumatic stuff and try to be more caring. Not to mention, I have eagerly been waiting to talk to a professional and my appointment was less than 5 minutes. I was told I needed a brain scan, nerve testing, and auto immune disorder testing w/ no explanation why. I am not questioning his expertise and knowledge, but I wish he had better bedside manners when talking about scary stuff like that. I left the appointment crying and completely distraught, and now I can't even get the brain scan done in a timely manner. Could you imagine if there is something seriously wrong and it's taking them weeks to put an order in for a brain scan. Also I am in severe pain, and can't even get the meds... Dr Gillman is the absolute best in his field. I was in need of two total knee replacements and in just two weeks since my left knee surgery I'm pain free and walking without any assistance. Dr Gillman is a miracle worker! I was terrified when I was told I needed a total knee replacement so after two previous doctor diagnosis I ended up at Dr Gillman's office. He was so tentative to my needs he immediately addressed the issue of my pain and he thoroughly explain to me the benefits of a total knee replacement. Immediately the day after my surgery I started to call Dr Gillman a miracle worker. I told all of my friends and family how after so many years of pain and an abnormal gait with one surgery Dr Gillman made me feel 100% better. Dr. Gilman is a miracle worker! He is highly competent, efficient, kind and very thorough. He restructured my ankle and scoped my knee so well that I'm able to play tennis again!

It was a horrible experience today with his staff and his self, First start from front desk assistant was super rude and not paying attention to the details of my insurance, After he arrive to the room I was waiting he just checked my x-ray and find out I have fractured me right away he open up some surgery options and he forgot about other issue I have, He informed me he will come back after two minutes he never came back someone else came in give me a bunch of PaperWorks and he was about to leave the room I asked her about my medication he said doctor didn't tell me anything about medication let me ask he came back again he said he already sent it to the pharmacy When I left the doctor office to Pharmacy to picking up my medication he didn't give me any pain medication when I called her assistant was yelling at me at the beginning and was not allowing me to talk She was keep asking questions which is I fill out the form and I am mark all my problems I ask her do you check the Papers Then why I fill out all those paperwork. He was super fast made his decision and he rushed me out he didn't listen what I'm asking for because if he was listening correctly what I was saying he was able to prescribe me medication I need and the service I need. He was just seeing me as dollar sign be honest.

Dr. Gillman and staff are very kind, friendly and efficient. Dr. Gillman always makes me feel comfortable and helps me with all my health needs. I highly recommend him. 5 stars for sure. Yvette is fantastic as well.

My mom was 90 and had Parkinson.she fell and broke her left hip. I toke her to mission hospital in Laguna beach It was the weekend and my mom was hurting very bad. Doctor Gilman did not show up because he was at his resting time! He made five operations in one month! All operations failed. We were so desperate not knowing what to do; finally one of his crew approached and secretly said, take mom somewhere else. She end it up with no hip on her left side . The person whom advised us was telling us: how many times you take a car to same mechanic shop ….when you don’t get a right answer. When I confront doctor Gilman; he replied, I didn’t know that was going to happen!! Dr Gillman was great, he created realistic expectations and he met or exceeded them. My recovery was much fast than expected, after 5 weeks into having my right knee replaced, I can do 80% of what I could do pre surgery.

Regarding hip replacement surgery with Dr. Gillman: My right hip replacement surgery 2 years ago with Dr Gillman was a great relief being very successful. Having my left hip replaced this July was an easy decision. Anyone having trouble walking, it doesn’t get better on its own. Dr Gillman is practiced and confident. His team is professional and kind. My visit was quick. Dr. Gillman is helping me navigate through the Workman's Compensation system. I am being treated for a right knee meniscus tear. I am waiting for approval on certain recommendations such as acupuncture, aquatherapy and some injections that Dr. Gillman told me are better than the Synvisc injections that I had done last year in January.

Dr. Gilman is an excellent surgeon, he performed my second hip replacement and it could not have been easier or more painless. He is very personable and considerate. I highly recommend him.

WORST DOCTOR EVER. Dr. Gillman does not care about his patients. He just orders scans and doesn't explain much, leaves the room in 5 minutes. All my exams were wrong and not studied thoroughly. Waste of my time and money. Stay away!!!

This guy butchered my foot. What was supposed to be a cholectomy turned into and unsuccessful hotness. He shaved the bone down way too far and didn’t take his time to look at what little cartelidge I had. I have an arthritic joint which I specifically told him about. So then I developed a bunion which was so painful and bone chips were discovered by my longtime podiatrist inMassachusetts. I couldn’t run any more and it hurt to walk. I would have a swollen big toe joint with bruising all on the top of my foot. He basically said too bad. Nothing I can do except to fuse the joint So at 43 no way I was trusting this guy with my ability to walk never mind running (I ran and walked over 25-30 miles a week. It impeded my Job which involves walking a lot every day. I returned home to my Podiatrist of 20 years and he sai “what the hell happened to you?? “ “ what did this guy do to you”. So he had to perform a CORRECTIVE bunionectomy. He said the bone was so shaved down that he wasnt sure he could bring them closer together (on the top part of the joint area. He said he couldn’t believe what he saw when he went in No cartilege left and that his opinion was that dr gillman did a very sub par cut and shave of the bone. He said if he went in and was more careful and more precise I wouldn’t be left in this condition. Thanks for nothing and I would be VERY CAREFUL when he says he has a 100 percent success rate with this kind of surgery He said to me at my follow up “oh. That’s an arthritic joint and that’s why the surgery didn’t work”. No more ortho for me. Not sure if my first review went through. It appears it did not. My visit with Dr. Gilman was horrible to say the least. He would not let me speak, he interrupted, and he did not care to hear what was going on with me. When I tried to explain what I have been going through he would cut me off. It seemed as though he was in a rush. I waited almost 6 months to see a doctor and then this happens. I was so disappointed, I came home and cried. At one point it seemed as though he was judgmental.

I have used Dr.Gillman for several years. He is the best doctor i have been to in years. He has saved me from knee surgery and a hip surgery. He is always on time and I never have to wait. He lets me know my options and helps me decide the best way to proceed. I love his office staff and medical team. I live in NYC most of the time but always pay a visit to my favorite doctor with a call from the airport when I land. He always knows the newest and latest ways to help me. Unfortunately, this doctor did not listen to even 5% of the words he even allowed me to say. He constantly interrupted me, not allowing me to even explain my injury or history of injury to get a proper prognosis and professional opinion. In fact, he tried telling me that I can cycle or swim while I wait for my knee to heal. So kind of him to suggest I cycle, when I can't even walk more than 500 feet without crutches or bear weight on the right leg while bending my knee. This almost 6 weeks post injury, so obviously it is not healing very well in comparison to previous injuries, as I TRIED to explain. He was rushing off to surgery and did not answer hardly any of my questions. I was balling at this point because it did not seem like he wanted to help or cared even at all, of which I have never done before. Then he proceeds to tell me that he does not do the surgery I would need done, but I can Google it to learn more. I am not sure about you, but I paid a significant amount of money to get told that I just need to Google the surgery I already knew about. Hence, I came to the doctor to get his opinion about. As a fellow health care professional myself, I would never treat my patients in such a way and I am incredibly disappointed. Dr. Gillman is the best Orthopedic Surgeon in Orange County. He is extremely knowledgeable and offers cutting edge treatments to bring the best results to the patient. He patiently listens to all of my concerns and recommends the best course of treatment for me. He walks into the exam room knowing everything about my ongoing treatment and what our goals are. He has performed surgery on me and it was done right and exactly as he explained to me. I received the very best result possible! THX!

With no cartilage remaining in either knee and all other options exhausted Dr Gillman recommended a Total Knee Replacement. The surgery was done on 12/20/17. The recovery has been much better than I expected. Walking with cane on day 4. Off all pain meds on day 7. I can’t say enough about Dr Gillman and staff. I felt well prepared for the surgery and honestly expected a more difficult recovery. I am extremely grateful to Dr Gillman and will not hesitate to move forward with the left knee.

Dr. Gillman is A+ in my book. He did a posterial hip replacement on me and I feel better than I have in a year. He is professional and kind and cares about his patients. I would not hesitate to recommend him for any orthopedic procedure.

I had a knee replacement performed by Dr. Gillman on January 20, 2016. After more than a year of chronic pain, I'm now scheduled to have revision surgery. Apparently, the prosthetic is loose. I saw Dr. Gillman several times over a five month period following the surgery. He cited other reasons for the pain and prescribed medications as treatment. His final recommendation was for me to have nerve blocks administered by a pain management doctor. In other words, treat the symptoms not the cause.

Outstanding service by Dr Gillmam and his staff Dr Gillmam and his staff made me fell very comfortable before surgery he went over what I could except after surgery I would recommend Dr Gillmam

I had arthroscopic shoulder surgery exactly 3 weeks ago today. At my 2 week checkup, I was doing better than expected and much better than before the surgery. I work in the veterinary field and I use my shoulder A LOT. I was very concerned going into the surgery that I'd be really limited in regards to work. I can say my shoulder is at 90% and improving everyday. I don't even need physical therapy. Dr. Gillman has a wonderful bedside manner, very efficient and dare I say miracle worker?

I had a knee replacement with Dr. Gillman in October 2016. He told me by three months I would be walking without a walker or a cane. I have been thrilled with my recovery and was walking on my own on the 17th day after surgery. I wish I would have done this earlier, I feel like a new person. I thank Dr. Gillman for his total professionalism, excellent care and would recommend him to all my friends and family. I also had an excellent experience at St. Joseph's Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach.

Large office, good staff, professional, keeps abreast of all new techniques. Restore orthopedics and spine center, they have an urgent care office as well which is a walkin urgent care. Having had 3 knee operations over 30 yrs ago, 1 on left knee and 2 on right. Right knee is pretty close to being shot and needing knee replacement, they have all the equipment needed X-rays, MRI and surgery procedure center. I will post again after follow up, heck, Mir scheduled next week and surgery scheduled

The front office was very rude and told me I had to call my insurance company to find out my deductible. Dr. Gillman's bedside manner was terrible. When I got in there with a broken ankle, he told me I would be put in a walking boot in 2 weeks. I called three times in the two weeks to complain of purple toes and swelling. When I finally came in in two weeks, he said you might have nerve damage when he looked at my purple toes. Then he told his assistant to cut off my cast and put me in a walking boot without taking x-rays...I have since gone to a different doctor The front office was very rude and told me I had to call my insurance company to find out my deductible. I had Meniscus surgery and I am worse than before surgery. Doctor Gillman was to aggressive. I had a tear that needed to be repaired but along with that he removed arthritis which was not the problem. Prior to the tear I could walk or run 4 miles a day 5 days a week now I wake up with knee pain. I think these doctors are setting you up for a knee replacement. I saw Dr. Gilman numerous times over the past 5 years for several conditions. He has one admirable quality--timeliness. But that quality has a major downside--he's rushed to the point of brusqueness. And that brusqueness has sometimes yielded serious negative consequences. I've also found him to be insensitive in dealing with me when I needed to make important medical decisions. Overall, of the many doctors i've seen in my life, i'd say that Dr. Gillman is the only one i'd never go back to.

I was pleasantly surprised at how easy my total knee replacement went. Relatively little pain, one night in the hospital and went home to stairs the next day. I was back on the golf course in six weeks. Rode a cart of course, but able to get out there. I probably waited too long to have the surgery, but from the first visit Dr. Gillman said you'll know when it's time. There's a good possibility that my other knee will need replacement and if so, I won't wait so long this time.

This was my second knee replacement, first one went extremely well this was actually easier and less painful than the first. I knew exactly what was going to happen and I was out of the hospital in one day. Recovery went great and I was up and walking with a walker in 3 days. Dr Gillman did a great job.

Doctor Gillman gave me a new Right Knee replacement! I was back to work with a cane after 21 days. Had no pain, and minor muscle cramps and spasms that physical therapy could handle. I am extremely pleased with the treatment I Received I wish there wee more sincere words to say other than THANK YOU DOC! I feel human again and pain free!

Wonderful doctor, takes the time to answer all your questions. Gives the patient all their options so they can make their decision.

I've been a patient of Dr. Gillman's since 2006, and had both knees replaced in November 2015. Prior to total replacements, he treated me with injections and a simple surgery in 2007. He was always clear with me that I would eventually need total replacements, but that I would tell him when I needed surgery; he would not tell me. He always is current on the latest treatments and procedures. He even had a joint replacement that was rated for 30 years, so I will never need surgery again!
