Dr. Michael Andrew Gainer

Dr Michael Gainer is a rude, condescending and dismissive person and should not be allowed to get away with his behavior my mother has been seeking treatment for over a year after having an accident. He has cut off both her and her interpreter when trying to explain the full extent of her pain on multiple occasions. Saying things like "I'm just the hand guy i don't want to hear about that" or "yeah probably not I'm just the hand guy.... Yeah but no" how can she get effective care from someone who tells her he doesn't want to hear it.

Does not allow the patient to speak or express concerns regarding pain. Has walked out in the middle of conversation and stated does not want to hear anything about it.

Great service form Iowa Ortho Des Moines and Dr. Gainer’s team. Effective and efficient along with making one feel comfortable, like they’ve known you for a long time. They were recommended to me and I’ll do the same.

Dr. Gainer spent ONE minute with me after the nurse showed me my x-rays. He said I had arthritis in my thumb. I asked , “How do you know I didn’t pull ligaments when I slipped on the ice?” I had zero pain until I slipped. He said, “Because I saw arthritis on the X-ray.”??? I guess it isn’t possible to pull ligaments if you have arthritis. No need to double check while you’re here either. Dr. Gainer does not show ANY concern for his patient, and does not have time for questions. One month later, and no improvement. Don’t expect a follow-up call to see how you’re doing, he doesn’t care. Do not waste your time or money on this so called doctor!

Quick fast and efficient

I was very happy with my visit. I had many questions and I left woth all of them answered. Best of all no one acted as my questions were irrelevant like at the ERs I had been at previously.

They was very professional. We didn't have to wait long before we was called back. The doctor explained was he could do but didn't feel like it was time for something that invasive. Very good appointment.

Very experienced and professional surgeon! I went to see him to get a second opinion and I am so pleased with the outcome. I was told I needed major surgery and turns out I only need physical therapy. It is refreshing to find a doctor that is concerned with patient outcomes, not making money. Went to Dr Gainer for what iam assuming is carpal Tunnel he was very very nice he's send me for an EMG to determine how bad it is October 14 then back to him on the 18 to decided our next step. I really like him.... Had my surgery my hand is doing great my thumb and first 2 fingers are still numb due to waiting to long they were numb before the surgery. My hand doesn't go to sleep at night now so I can sleep will have the left one done in a month or so. Had my left hand done 2/2/22 a little pain last night and this morning but took a pain pill and used ice pain left quickly. It's going to be nice to sleep at night without my hand going to sleep Dr Gainer is a great hand Dr I would recommend him anytime. I had a great experience with Iowa Ortho! The worst part of this entire experience was the endless paperwork I was required to fill out three times (my phone- was deleted , my computer and in person). I spent way more time filling that out than getting diagnosed and treated for an annoying but painful hand condition. Thank you for squeezing me in and treating me in one visit! Dr.ganor caused permenat nerve damade&lost the use of my hand. Ruined 2 carriersof mine &had to go in disability. He shouldn't be allowed to carve on a turkey. Stay away from him. Not even a letter of apology for the damage. He's a POS. &needs to greet at Walmart. You'll will be at high risk... get 2nd opinion.

Very busy place and had to wait later than my appointment time, but staff very helpful. Dr Gainer was pleasant and knowledgeable but mighty speedy. Felt a bit rushed but my problem was addressed.

Dr. Gainer was very kind, knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions. My carpal tunnel surgery was done in only a few minutes under a local anesthetic. His staff was also very kind and courteous. I would definitely recommend his services!

Dr Gainer is very informative and helpful. Staff for getting an appointment was incredibly nice and helpful too!

I appreciate the time Dr. Gainer spent explaining the treatment for the sagittarius band rupture at metacarpophalangeal joint in my hand. He is always pleasant no matter how busy he is.

My appointment was on time . All of the staff were courteous. Dr Gainer was excellent in laying out my options and his recommendations. I recommend him and Iowa Ortho.

The worst, more worried about flirting with his nurses then the patient in the room!!!

Made appointment for a painful bump on my wrist. Right away the nurse told me that they had to take X-rays. Then Dr Gainer came in and took a quick look and told me that there was nothing to do about it. He only talked about surgery. He didn’t give me any options about physical therapy or anything. He didn’t even talk about the X-rays or even show me the X-rays. If I’m going to pay for X-rays, then I want to see them and have the doctor explain them. Worst experience of my life with a doctor. 100% waste of my time and money. I found out more info about my wrist on YouTube then I did from Dr Gainer. One of the worst experiences I've had. I went in with my left wrist hurting and disturbing my day-to-day activities. I was in lot of pain but doctor could care less to listen. He just came in and left in under 2 minutes on both of my visits. I was fine with it the first time because they took an X-ray first and probably nothing showed up. I went in second time after 2 weeks with worsened & radiating pain and doctor didn't even spend 2 mins to listen to my concerns. He right away suggested that he could nothing and suggested me to get physical therapy. He was reluctant to listen and gave vague answers when asked some follow-up. Stay away from this facility. I’ve been to Dr. Gainer multiple times regarding a ganglion cyst on my right wrist. He eventually performed a surgical removal of the cyst. However, not long after I noticed another raised bump near the scar and made an appointment to see him. He seemed really annoyed and was very unempathetic towards me and about the issue. His only answer was that he doesn’t know what this bump is and that only time will tell if this is the cyst coming back or not. When I tried to ask him more questions about it he kept on cutting me off and couldn’t offer any help or explanations about the new bump. I don’t like to write bad reviews and I try not to complain but......let me say the nurses were very nice and I got right in, but seemed like the doctor could care less of my injury. Seemed like he had this whimsical,daisy attitude. Spent maybe less than 5 minutes with me and he was gone. Maybe it just me, or it might have been a busy day. Hopefully it was a just a moment and not the everyday attitude.
