I had the good fortune of being treated by Dr. Clegg for chronic back pain that had persisted over 10 years and was having a significant negative impact on my quality of life and physical activities. Prior to seeing Dr. Clegg I had consulted with several "top-tier" back specialists, all of whom said that the only way to remedy my back would be a multi-level decompression consisting of a series of surgeries over several months - and that the odds of a positive outcome from that sort of complex back surgery were around 50%. Dr. Clegg took the time to explain what was going on with my back, treatment options, and the range of possible outcomes from treatment. Consultations with Dr. Clegg felt unhurried, and while we talked at length about my back we also discussed politics, foreign policy, and other issues that made the entire visit interesting and relaxed. He and Physical Therapist Susan Doucette (next door) communicated, and developed a treatment plan that combined new/ better PT with a lumbar steroid injection. Three months on, the results have been remarkable: I can engage in a wide range of physical activities that were becoming unavailable - including high intensity mountain biking - and pain level dropped dramatically, having an immeasurable positive impact on my outlook on life. PT is working because I no longer have pain that prevented me from doing PT effectively.
