About Dr. Michael Armstrong JR.
Reviews for Dr. Michael Armstrong JR.
My experience was excellent, I went in for what I thought was a sinus issue and found out I had 4 nodules on my thyroid and parathyroid gland, and will follow up with an endocrinologist, they did a thorough exam, scan and testing, I was treated kindly and reccomend this physician and his well qualified staff.
I had a cancerous growth on the side of my face and due to its size, it would require a very large incision to remove it. I was concerned about the incision leaving a noticeable scar. My Mohs surgeon recommended that I speak with Dr. Armstrong about plastic surgery. I read some of the reviews and although I had some doubt, I decided to schedule a consultation with Dr. Armstrong. I found both he and his staff to be very friendly, professional and caring. He took his time and explained my options and what I could expect. He sat and spoke with my wife and I for about an hour and he continually asked us if we had any questions. By the time I left his office, I felt reassured and very comfortable with Dr. Armstrong performing my reconstructive procedure. It’s been 3 months since my procedure and the results are amazing! Dr. Armstrong far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend him.
Trust the reviews! I didn't even get a chance to become a patient when I was met with Amber, a petulant, juvenile receptionist. She was dismissive, over talks you, and is just unnecessarily rude as if all of mankind is responsible for her misery! I pity her emotional unintelligence—it will catch up with her. There are plenty of qualified ENTs in Richmond with competent staff—select them instead. Dr. Amstrong, people are tired of entitled, bad behavior and it will eventually cost you money—please do better.
I left the office today after seeing John Pender, RN in the exact same condition as I came. I still have pain in my ear that is unresolved and do not know why. When I made the appt, I requested to see Dr. Armstrong who treated my son for tubes when he was 4. We had a good experience in the past. I was assured that I was unable to see a dr for a routine new patient visit and the dr is in surgeries almost all day everyday. That I "had" to see a nurse and they were specialized to give me a proper diagnosis. Upon arrival, the front desk and hearing test lady up front was super nice, the assistants were great. John came in did a quick overall look in my ears, nose, throat, and said I looked fine. I had to probe him for more information.I asked if my ears had fluid, etc, and was told my hearing test was fine that I had some issues hearing low frequencies in my left ear. Although, thats nice to know - I did not come because I couldn't hear, I came because I was having pain and ringing in my ear with dizziness. That is what I needed help understanding. He basically told me there was nothing he could do since I appeared ok and walked out of the room. Leaving me with questions of what do I do from here, do I just live with the pain and discomfort. I also have static with loud noises that are very bothersome and I wake up with intense ear pain sometimes. He brushed it off that I was probably grinding my teeth. I worked in the dental field for 15 years and I know the pain in my ear is not related to that. He did not care to offer any advice on next steps or walk me through other alternatives or offer vertigo testing for the dizziness and ear ringing. Did not ask if I had any trauma or changes to the ear, or problems with eye sight. He assumed since the hearing test was ok, that I was "fine" as he repeatedly told me and looked at me like I need to leave. I know something is wrong and he didn't address the pain issue. I have pain in my ear that is not going away and getting worse, I waited a month to see if it resolved and it still has not, which is why I went to see a specialist to begin with. He was very very dismissive and treated me like I was crazy. I have never seen someone so dismissive in a medical setting whatsoever who didn't seem to care to help the patients chief complaint. That was a waste of a copay and an hour waiting to be seen by someone that brushed me off and gave me 2 mins of their time with no help to go forward with.
I drove an hour and a half in the rain. I ran into an accident on the 288 ramp off of Hull street. I phoned the office to let them know that I would be 15 minutes late. I was told he would not see me and I needed to reschedule. I have never received treatment like this from any provider. That speaks volumes about Dr. Armstrong’s character and I will not reschedule.
Rudest most unprofessional doctor I have ever dealt with.
The first meeting of Dr Armstrong was in an ER from swallowing/choking on plastic/teeth,fillings & gum etc. A foreign object was found on my xrays in my throat area that were taken ,were causing the problems according to a radiologist.I could not swallow, speak, breathe,or talk and in complete distress. He did an EUD(endoscopic procedure)on me, and with doing so found no obstructing object(do not understand why he did not locate the foreign object??He said no materials were in my throat only ulcers in stomach which made no sense.Overall, he was an attentive listener, charming, compassionate, and he even said a prayer for me and my husband and his manners were exceptional.Glad he was there to help me.Aint life something! I had no idea he would make such critical and unprofessionaL comments in my medical records after my visit to the ER,ONCE I REQUESTED THEM.I was literally chocking and his comments on my appearance during an ER visit were totally unacceptable, almost like Dr.Jekyl and Mr Hyde.I did not know I had to look like I was entering a beauty pageant coming to an ER choking. How long have you been demeaning people???? Sounds like you need some prayers yourself sir.I have never heard of an ENT doing an EUD before.Aren't Gastroenterologists the chosen docs for an EUD????? I do believe docs are doing things they should not be doing,(not qualified or licensed to do), especially when you are out stone cold.Be as it may, I hope others can make a peaceful and sound decision if its ER related.I even got a $43,000.00 bill where my insurance paid $15,000.00 to HCA that I had to report to my insurance because they listed that I was admitted to the hospital when I was not .I had the procedure and left shortly after I told the nurse it felt like something was still stuck in my throat !! Pushed right out the door!Following week went to a different hospital with the same problem swallowing/choking and they did not do a thing either.Where are the respectful competent docs???ENT's?????Etc... If I could give 0 stars I would. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed at the service I received at this facility. My 2 year old son has had 9 ear infections since November, the last one resulting in a fever at almost 105. We have had appointments with other ENTs but none have had dates for the procedure he needs until late August or September. My son is at the point where two days after he stops antibiotics he gets an ear infection. I called this office and they said they had appointments for the procedure in July so I jumped on the next appointment for the dr to do a consultation. I get off of work 2 hours early, picked my son up for daycare and drive 35 mins to this office in the pouring rain to be told when I arrive I will not be seen. I will not be seen for an appointment I arrived ON TIME to. I walked in at 3:30 on the dot, and that was only because initially I parked on the wrong side and entered through the surgery center. When I made the appointment the Receptionist who helped me did mention she was new, but overall extremely sweet and helpful, she did not mention to me I had to arrive 30 mins early for my appointment . The second I walk in I hear “ is this her” and as I walk up to the desk the staff proceeds to tell me I need to be rescheduled because I wasn’t 30 mins early for my appointment. I received a text the morning of the appointment letting me know my appointment time was 3:30, no where in that text did it say “ please arrive 30 mins early for your appointment “. A women there so quickly jumped to say “ we are rescheduling her”, nothing else said. They were extremely dismissive. I’m just shocked that there was NOTHING they could do to accommodate my 2 year old son. The waiting room was completely empty. I have filled out paperwork at the previous ENTs and it did not take anywhere near 30 mins. I wasn’t given an option to fill the paperwork out quickly or I could have sat in the room and filled the paper out while the dr looked at my son. I called back from the car after leaving in tears of frustration and the women who spoke to me said she sympathized with me but there’s nothing they could do. I was told I could be rescheduled for the following Monday, my appointment was on a Thursday, how can I get off of work with one day notice? Now I have to find another ENT and push this procedure my son so desperately needs back even farther .I am disgusted with the lack of communication and compassion this staff had. I have worked in the hospitality/customer service industry for over 10 years and I would be ashamed if these were my staff members. If I could give 0 stars I would. Dr. Michael Armstrong is an excellent physician !!! He is the best !!!
I have been a patient for a number of years and have received excellent care from Dr. Armstrong and NP Becky and the Audiologist. I highly recommend them.
The office staff were always professional and friendly. Dr. Armstrong and Nurse Becky not only listened but were informative, kind and compassionate before and after my surgery. I'm thankful for Dr. Armstrong and that my surgery was such a success, with better than expected results.
My experience with Dr. Armstrong and the handling of my son ear problem and operation was amazing! I also had a excellent experience with Becky! I would highly recommend my friends and family to this establishment! My son had a previous doctor place ear tubes in his ear and unfortunately they were bothering him bad so Dr. Armstrong removed them and hours after the operation my baby was feeling better! The day of his procedure He eased the stress I had over the operation with his words and wisdom! Dr. Armstrong did a wonderful job my nose surgery. I am now very pleased with what I see in the mirror now and can also breathe more clearly.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Armstrong!
Dr. Armstrong operated on my teenage daughter to fix her prominent ears. She was extremely pleased with the final results of the surgery. We will definitely recommend him in the future!
Thank you Dr. Armstrong and the whole team at Richmond ENT and Stony Point Surgery Center for taking care of our daughter today! Her balloon sinoplasty was a huge success. She should finally be on the way to healthy sinuses and comfortable breathing. Everyone did a fantastic job keeping the whole experience happy and fun for our 5-year-old. They even said a prayer for a speedy and successful recovery. ?? We couldn’t be happier with our experience.

I normally don’t take the time to write negative reviews. There were a few off putting experiences that happened here. One, I was quoted incorrectly for self-pay and expected to pay a much higher rate at the front desk upon arrival. I was advised the policy is to pay more and if it’s less I would be reimbursed and if it were more I would be expected to pay more. This is not the same information I was given when scheduling the appointment and I let them know there was a discrepancy in information given. I went ahead and paid and waited to be seen. I also advised them that they had collected my medical history three times before being seen- initial over the phone appointment scheduling, someone called the day of and I had to fill it out again when I showed up to the office which was very odd to me. The front desk didn’t seem concerned that that had happened either. The lab technician was extremely nice as was the physician. When I was done with my appointment, I was advised that I was good to go and asked for directions how to get back to the main desk. I proactively stopped at the front desk to ask what I should do next, as I wasn’t sure if I was suppose to leave or stop there for check out. I didn’t need a follow up appointment and was told that I was good to go, but I had to inquire how much my bill was and if I owed more or if I would be reimbursed. The lady at this side of the front desk was nice and asked if I had my self-pay sheet (which that was the first I had heard of a self-pay sheet). She kindly went to the back and grabbed if for me, luckily I was being reimbursed and they voided my initial payment but again it was strikingly odd. It seems like there are some communication gaps between the front office, pre-screening over the phone and the medical staff. I had to ask a lot of questions and I don’t feel confident that had I not, I would’ve been reimbursed. Again, the doctor and medical staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Should I need to come back to see an ENT, he would be one I wouldn’t mind seeing but the inconsistencies coming from the front office definitely discourage me from returning. I unfortunately have to agree with the other negative reviews I have read about Dr. Armstrong - he is quite patronizing and lacking in bedside manner. He completely invalidated my concerns, talked down to me, and did not offer any help or guidance in regards to my sinus complaints. He suggested that my symptoms were purely psychological and then proceeded to, quite inappropriately, accuse me of being anorexic. Needless to say, it was quite an unpleasant and unproductive visit. I have since consulted with another doctor who was far more helpful and provided an actual diagnosis and guidance. It seems that Dr. Armstrong masks his ignorance with condescension. I highly recommend seeing a different ENT.
Improper diagnosis. Improper procedure that left me with daily discomfort. Had to find another surgeon to fix it the best he could, given the condition I was in. On a personal level, I found Dr Armstrong full of himself, always having a group of people following him in the clinic. Before the procedure, he prayed for it to be effective and I would have a good result. New doctor said the procedure Dr Armstrong did on me doesn’t work and many doctors stopped doing it. I am angry at myself, because there were a couple warning signs that I ignored. To summarize, I left Dr Armstrong in worse condition than I went in. I have discomfort every single day. I’m sure many patients are happy. I am not and I don’t recommend him.
Dr. Armstrong and his staff diagnosed and corrected my daughter's persistent breathing problem...permanently! During the initial office visit, he and his staff were kind, patient and professional in the diagnosis of the problem. Dr. Armstrong subsequently removed my 12 year-old's adenoids. He made my daughter and I feel at ease with the procedure and confident in his abilities. Highly recommend Dr. Armstrong and the staff at Richmond ENT.
Worst ENT & office ever! I wish I would’ve read the reviews before seeking treatment. They care more about their profit than their patients. They ran a whole bunch of unnecessary exams and still have not resolved my medical issue. They also do business as Advanced Otolaryngology, so when you see the name, run forest RUN!
Staff were very nice. I was a new patient and never got an opportunity to see Dr. Armstrong. I saw the FNP and a student from VCU. Both were very professional and pleasant. I was expecting the Dr to come in to greet me and examine me. Very disappointed...I made the appointment to see the physician. I would not recommend this physician.
Poor customer service. Both of my parents have been patients at this office for years. My mom had a Cardiologist appointment earlier during the day. The Cardiologist was running behind which put us behind for the ENT appointment. My sister called the office and told them that we were in route from Mechanicsville. She explained what was going on said we would be about 10 minutes late We got there 14 minutes late and they refused to see my Mom. They said she would have to reschedule. My sister was practically is tears and begging them to see Mom as she almost got a speeding ticket trying to get her there. The receptionist said we had to be there within 10 minutes of her appointment time. So we had to reschedule because we were FOUR FREAKING MINUTES later. This is the way they treat their longtime Loyal Elderly patients. No thanks!!! We will take our business elsewhere. Poor customer service. I did not have a great experience. I found the appointment very rushed and very chaotic. There was a doctor, a nurse , a med student and a scribe. I was asked many questions and then even asked by the medical student if i had Bell's Palsy because my smile was not even :-( I was also asked if they used forceps at my birth? This was all just very shocking in the delivery and did not seem appropriate or completely relevant for my visit. Then when the doctor looked at my nose he joked about a great nose for being under than 5'4. :-( :-( I did not have a great experience. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.. my only complaint is that they are way overbooked and there are times that you will have a {sometimes lengthy} wait (even w an appt)

Removed a fatty tumor from left side of my forehead. There were no scars after stitches dissolved. Dr. Armstrong and his office staff were personable and professional. Overall good experience
Very nice professional doctor and accommodating with appts. Even answers his own emails! Don’t understand some of the negative reviews about his personality. I found him easy to talk to, and funny! Will return!
While the staff is quite friendly and knowledgeable, Dr. Armstrong unfortunately made me feel stupid for even coming in and is highly, highly patronizing in his approach (I had an unusual spot for >month on my tonsil - not sure who WOULDN'T come in for that). I think his staff is afraid of him - you feel awkward for them and just want to leave the exam. I've never left a doctor review before--but felt compelled after this experience. 2 stars instead of 1 b/c staff is super nice and smart.
They said they called insurance for approval but they did not after calling myself. Set up! One month a owe 458 the next month 982 dollars never saw him that month! Will not work with you on payment not everybody has lots of money after paying 14 thousand a year on fixed income after not paying for insurance! So why you can't take 25 dollars a month you are not the only doctor that's got to be paid! Bankruptcy on America by way of health care cost!
Avoid unless you want to waste your time & money. This man was patronizing and arrogant. He basically told me my chronic sinus infections were all in my head (figuratively) even though I was diagnosed by several different doctors and made it clear that he was basically of no help, all while being condescending. If you want to feel talked down to & frustrated, he’s the guy to see. Otherwise, avoid.
I have only great things to say about Dr. Armstrong and Richmond ENT. My nose was broken and Dr. Armstrong thoroughly checked to find the exact area where it was broken. He knew exactly what he was doing and fixed the break. I felt so much better afterwards. I would recommend him and his practice to anyone. On another note, his office was spotlessly clean, advanced with the latest technologies, and most importantly, as a patient, I felt his care and compassion.
Scheduled an appointment with Dr Wilkes at richmond ENT, called the day before the appointment to confirm the location etc. Then I show up the day of the appointment and I'm told I don't have an appointment with the doctor. Instead they have me down as having an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner and not only that but it was at the OTHER location. Ridiculous. All I got was sorry and a shrug of the shoulders. Very unprofessional and disrespectful to people's time. I hope you’re good-looking and healthy if you visit this office... Dr. Armstrong, “Ya know? It’s just something you may have to live with. Like, you’re a slender guy, with hairy arms, and you have open Eustachian tubes.” Me: “Ok” Dr. Armstrong, “Yeah, you’re a slender guy, with hairy arms, a receding hairline, and open eustacian tubes. If that’s something you can live with, then great.” I’m not easily offended, if anyone knows their arms and head it’s me. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, but that’s probably the most blatantly disrespectful manner I’ve been spoken to at a doctor’s office. You’re an ENT. I came to you with an issue regarding my ears and hearing. Anything outside of that, especially discussing my appearance, is unprofessional. If I’m remembering this incorrectly, feel free to ask the two interns who were in the room as well. We drove 4+ hours round trip to come see you all and didn’t see the doctor until over an hour after my appointment time. Explain everything in detail. Great bedside manner.
My son is a patient in ENT from 3 years and so. We never have a problem. My son got ear tubes three years ago. Every six months he has check up. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Becky and Dr. Armstrong are amazing. I am glad to have them for my son's s doctors. Thank you so much to take care of my son!
I loved my experience with Richmond ENT, I got nothing but care and comfort during each visit. Amy the PA was great during each visit to answer ever question. I was never rushed. The office personnel always helped answer my questions. Dr. Armstrong was just wonderful! Very caring and compassionate to my situation espically during surgery. He took the time listen to my concerns and answer questions. Before my surgery, he took time to pray with my husband and I And not only for my surgery but also for my husbands (non sinus related) medical condition. I cannot express how great/blessed that made us feel. I highly recommend Dr. Armstrong to anyone! I loved my experience with Richmond ENT, I got nothing but care and comfort during each visit. Dr. Armstrong has been wonderful over the past year. He has taken his time to answer questions and make us feel comfortable with our decisions. Sometimes we have to wait longer than expected but that only shows he truly takes his time with his patients. I highly recommend him.
I would 100% recommend Dr. Armstrong. Last week I had a biopsy and I was extremely nervous. Dr. Armstrong not only put my nerves at ease, but he is a Christian. You can tell that he cares about his patients because he asks questions and listens to concern. I am so glad that I was recommended to see him for my procedure.
Would never see him again. I went to a different ENT and I’m glad I did.
Good luck even getting an appointment. I got someone on the phone, they asked me to hold and never came back on the line. Oh well.

A true healer. Dr. Armstrong has operated on 3 members of my family. He took my daughter's tonsils out, placed ear tubes in my son to help with chronic ear infections and just did a septoplasty on me last week. I am thrilled with the results of my surgery and am truly blessed to be under his care. They are a very busy practice and sometimes waits can be long but if there is a delay it's because he is spending time with someone who needs him more that I probably do at that moment. Thank you!
There are not enough wonderful things I can say about Dr. Michael Armstrong and his wonderful staff. They were successful in correcting a sinus condition that has been with me for almost 50 years The kindness and compassion was wonderful. Thank you so much for the help and hope you have given me
I had nasal passages that would block and cause frequent headaches. Many years ago another Dr. did surgery on one side & improved that, but I still got headaches on the other. About four years ago Dr. Armstrong did a sinuplasty on the other side and it became better than the side with surgery. I had to go in for a different reason recently and it reminded me how much this procedure helped & how easy. Instead of hospital time, I left his office after a very short time & went shopping!
WARNING DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR He butchered my wife's nose. The nurse acknowledged the deformity but Dr.Armstrong dismissed her and offered no solutions and now I am buying her a new nose and praying that his terrible work can be fixed. PLEASE WARN EVERYONE YOU KNOW
I was scheduled with Becky the NP, not Dr. Armstrong. I wasn't pleased with the care or the follow-up I have received.
I went to Dr. Armstrong for a face lift. He instead talked me into fat injections , something he was new with. It cost me over $2,000, and both my family and I (and my friends) could see no improvements whatsoever. I went back to him to discuss it, and he felt my results were good. (what else was he going to say?) He refused to refund any of my money. This was a total waste of money, I later went to another surgeon and had the face lift. I would never in a million years recommend him.
tried to secure an appointment and got an argument about insurance coverage. They promised to call me back and three days later no callback. VERY UNPROFFESIONAL.
When my grandfather was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, Dr Armstrong was our 2nd opinion, but immediately became our top choice for care. He was prompt to respond and take the case, very patient and thorough in his explanations, always available, reachable, and caring throughout the process (and into today). He is the type of surgeon and doctor every patient hopes to have when faced with hard health challenges. Words do not do justice to how grateful we are for Dr Armstrong - thank you!
