Dr. Michael Anthony Amaro

It has been a long time since my experience with Dr. Amaro, but it is one that I will never forget. I'm sure this was at least 7 years ago, likely more, soon after he took over the practice of Dr. Guilliams who was my previous doctor. Dr. Amaro inherited my file when Dr. Guilliams retired. At the time, I didn't have a primary care physician and I was having extreme difficulty sleeping, likely from stress at work. I had tried everything I could think of to sleep, but I started to think something was wrong with me after spending over 36 hours awake with no good reason as far as I could tell. So, I made an appointment to talk to him in his office, because he was literally the only doctor I had a history with in the city. I went into his office, him behind a big desk and me in the chair on the opposite side, and we talked. I explained to him what was going on, how scared I was, etc. I started to cry during my explanation. He cut me off. He said "I knew from the moment that you walked into this office that you were going to cry". I will never forget it. He began writing on a prescription pad. When I took it, I saw it was a prescription for Xanax. He didn't discuss any of the reasoning with me or talk to me, he just gave me the prescription and sent me away. I never filled the prescription and I never went back. Eventually, I did sleep. But, at the time when I needed help, Dr. Amaro not only didn't provide it, he mocked me. This man doesn't deserve to practice medicine if he treats people with this kind of cold indifference. He probably has no recollection of me. As I said, it's a moment I will never forget. First off, his staff has NO IDEA how to handle even the basic of information. They put my info in wrong so many times that I have had to repeatedly tell them how far along I was. AND THEN, he decides to retire around my due date and sends me to the down stairs doctors who don’t even take my insurance. And having to pay $25 for the receptionist for my personal medical records that she is too dumb to send over email, was the last straw. I had to drive from cypress during all the rain, 8 months pregnant because of their stupidity. I will be reporting them to my insurance and tell them exactly how they treat their patients.

Don’t waste you’re time.

Don't have anything nice to say about him and I don't want to get sued. But do a thorough investigation before using him.

Not helpful at all in anyway. Was my first time visiting this office, please look for pregnancy care elsewhere.

Long...extreamly long wait for women well exam...appointment at 1:30 and now...2:27 still didn't see Dr and they said im 1st patient after lunch break

The staff here is a horrible! Dr Amaro put my pregnancy at risk by prescribing medication I did not need. (Luckily I did not take them) if he doesn't stop an actually listen to his patients, what makes you believe the staff will?! DO NOT USE THIS DR!

Dr. Amaro is a great caring and compassionate doctor. This is my second delivery with him. Whenever I visit the office for prenatal visits the staff is very friendly and helpful. This doctor and his staff are equally amazing. He and his nurse (Christie) remember you, its like seeing old friends and Alex the receptionist does as well. I feel so welcomed at every appointment. I also felt like Dr. Amaro and his staff truly cared about me and my pregnancy/baby from the first appointment. Love this place and I will go here for any future pregnancies as well. Dr. Amaro became my pregnancy doctor for my second pregnancy around Jan. 2019 and it was the best decision I have ever made. I felt as if I had to write my experience, because it was so positive. He is so nice and made me feel so comfortable.. a completely different experience than what I had with another doctor from my first pregnancy. Throughout my pregnancy I had many concerns and he always made sure to make me feel at peace and understand many questions that I had. Now that I have had the baby, he performed the IUD procedure and the experience was very easy and painless! While I was going to his office in the beginning, there was a change in his staff/management. There is a big difference! I have seen bad reviews about the old staff but the new staff are so professional. They’re always so happy, kind and always made me feel like I was family! Numerous calls for appointments were ignored in December 2019 and the beginning of January. I called the second week in January and reached someone and made an appointment for a procedure, but I had to cancel the January 20th appointment because I did not give them my new insurance. I rescheduled for today and was told that I could not have the procedure because needed to fill out paperwork. This was the first time they ever mentioned paperwork and I explained to them that they should have informed me before today. I was told that I would meet with the doctor to fill the paperwork out and schedule the procedure for later. After waiting for one hour I had not been called to go back, I told them I had to leave and all she said was okay. I called back to discover that I was never scheduled for an appointment and it was somehow my fault. Horrible!!!

If they cannot get simple appointments correct, I fear to trust them with my medical issues. Just horrible customer service and now I am questioning my medical service. Now that I think about it, I never received anything from them telling me about my pap smear in October. I asked for my records and I was told I would be called next week once the system is back up. I am not holding my breath that I will get a call. Just sad and frustrating!!!

Rude staff

Dr.amaro is an awkward dr , will answer all your questions with one word and leave you still wondering what the answer was . Communication skills are very poor . When getting my first ultrasound it was vaginal he made me feel very uncomfortable , I asked him for photos and he forgot and had to keep re doing it blaming it on the fact that he didn't get no sleep . Staff is rude and unprofessional. Came in, on break, on time exactly 2:45 and left after sitting in the room for over an hour with no one to come in and give me a reason why I haven’t been seen. Got dressed to go back to work and I get told on my way out, “oh he has an emergency that happened 2mins ago” the staff can laugh and gossip in the hall but can’t take 30seconds to communicate with patients about wait time at 3:15 anyone could of came in and told me the doctor would be late and I would of made the decision to wait or reschedule. This was one of the worst experiences of my life! I debated on taking the time to post a review, but I received a bill. Every time I see or hear anything about this Doctor and his staff I cringe. I had a wonderful Doctor for 20+ years by the name of Dr.Rizk. Dr.Rizk, retired in Dec. 2017 and forwarded my records to Dr.Amaro's office. I needed my Well Woman's exam and I faithfully take them on time every year and didn't take the time to review Dr.Amaro's reviews (worst mistake). Annual exams are covered by insurance. I was able to speak with the doctor prior to the exam and explained to him how my menopause was coming along, but also shared I had experienced the death of my BF (suffered a heart attack) while we were on vacation. So to say the least anything that didn't feel normal to me I was on high alert. My mom had breast cancer, so I get mammograms faithfully. Exam was performed without a hitch. I was working out and explained that he would see in my huge file (Dr. Rizk) I am allergic to soaps, latex and if I wear my sweaty workout clothes I sometimes will sometimes get an infection, but my exam was done without a hitch. I left the doctor's and got my mammogram done on the same day. Next morning before I had to go to work I received a call from the doctors office and the lady from his office said, I needed to come into the office to see the doctor to get my results as soon as possible. I immediately asked can he see me today or can he tell me on the phone? She said, no. I knew I had signed a piece of paper that said I could be emailed my results. I hung up the phone and I started trembling. All I kept thinking was if he couldn't email or call me himself, it must be something bad. I had an appointment with him at 8am the next morning. I made my work appointments that day and honestly I can remember the drive to Prairie View and back home. I didn't eat or sleep that entire day. I prayed I cried until my ex-boyfriend picked me up to take me to Dr. Amaro's office for my results. I checked-in and they requested a $45 co-payment. We waited and the nurse (never met her) called us back in to her room ( not the doctor's). She told me that I had the beginning stages of a yeast infection that didn't show any symptoms. I was "floored"!!!! She handed me a coupon (that didn't work) to get medication downstairs pharmacy that was $100. I told her what the person said, the following day and how I thought I had cancer. She was like of course not we would have called you the same day. Needless, to say we left and had breakfast, because for 24 hrs I hadn't eaten. My ex thank god, but said this was horrible they took 24 hrs of my life to tell me about something I get more than most because of my body chemistry. I paid for medication 10x the amount if I walked into Walgreens. I can't express into words what I went through before meeting with the nurse and not the doctor. 30 days later I went for a follow-up and paid another $45. I spoke to the doctor and explained what had happened and he profusely apologized and said he would have a talk with them, because this was NOT the 1st time this had happened!!!!!!! Dr. Amaro, called up to the reception desk to ask that they refund my $45 and whomever was on the receiving end must have said, why, because he had to repeat himself 3x's. This was one of the worse experiences of my life. This year(2019) I found a REAL doctors office. I told the new GYN about my experience and she was floored, but knows my retired Doctor very well and couldn't understand why he would have referred his patients to Dr. Amaro's office as they have totally different bedside manners. The staff is horrible with attitudes. To send me bill for services when he did absolutely NOTHING. I feel like they didn't get money (out of pocket) so they made up a reason. Only the doctor who made the ultrasound on Friday was nice. I really missed my choice until my last visit. My surgery went well. Thank you doctor but the great appreciation goes to Jesus Christ who supported my pregnancy from beginning to end. If you are a patient who does not like to talk, you can go down because they are great dumb. The assurance of my friend who is pregnant at the moment has sent her down. Horrible Doctor, horrible staff!! The receptionist is very rude the Hispanic lady and after my 4th visit I got to see the doctor. The "nurse" is always rushing she doesn't take the time to talk to you or really see what you needs are. Worst experience in my life! The nurses are OK but the doctor is awful. He does not care about his patients, he just want the day to get over. He is the most cold human being. Don't go here!

By far I would have to say that this is probably one of the worst experiences I've had with any doctor. For starters he was very awkward and didn't talk much when I had my first appointment with him. The only good nurse I've met on his team was Cynthia and a Saturday ultrasound lady. Everyone else was rude to you for no apparent reason. They gave me results over the phone that everything was ok with my blood from previous testing, a week later I get a call saying I needed to come in and see the doctor I panicked of course as I am pregnant and thought the worst when I recieved the phone call. I go in to find out that they're repeating information they've already told me over the phone and the doctor had just "forgotten" about it. Then about a month later I go in for my anatomy scan and turns out I get false gender results. To my surprise what my doctor told me wasn't accurate I'm not having a girl I'm having a boy. Who does mistakes like this??? That just put the cherry on top of the horrible things I've experienced with this doctor so with all this being said save yourself al the pregnancy stress and look for a better doctor who communicates with his patients that also has a friendly staff!! Agree about the doctor. I have been going to this place for years when it was Dr. Guilliams and loved him! He retired and Amaro took his place. I always get Brandy to do my well woman. I finally met Dr. Amaro last year for the first time to discuss results. He barely said anything and I did all the talking. If I ever needed surgery or anything more or Brandy left, I would leave for sure. It's sad. You have all of these patients who depend on the doctor for guidance and he gives them nothing. Let me first say that I have no problem with Dr. Amaro, he's been my doctor for many years-15 to be exact. My issue is with the front office staff and the nurse practitioner. I went in for an annual exam (pap, etc). The nurse practitioner said that she would call in a birth control prescription for me. I called the pharmacy four times to check the status and to see if it had been received. Every time I called, they told me that they didn't have any prescriptions for me. So I called back to speak with the receptionist-who told me that it had been sent the day before. I asked her to have the nurse practitioner send it again bc it hadn't been received. Still nothing, my appt was on Wed and it is now Sun-I still don't have my BC. I know it's not the pharmacy bc I've used this location for many years with no problem. Dr.Amaro is a great Doctor. I miss his exceptional level of care and compassion! Wish his office still accepted my insurance.

Dr. Amaro had seen me from around age 17 up until my last pregnancy in 2008. My utereus ruptured during birth. He saved my life. He would always see me at the end of my appointments in his office when he could. The staff was always friendly and approachable. I actually had him as my primary and OB for a while. I would hate to see that such a good practice go down. Doctors are so busy that you really have to be involved in your healthcare and talk to them and tell them how you feel and what you need. This may change the experience. I know that he is a great doctor. There are some doctors that will not listen. In my experience, he is not one of them. the staff is rude, dr. was an hour late. The nurse stated that him being late was the "usual". he never spoke when he finally walked in.. Searches for my babies heartbeat for literally 30 seconds and says "yep I don't hear one" walks out and we wait for another 45 minutes for an ultrasound. I look out and he's on the computer in his office. @ the ultrasound he says "oh there it is" come back in 4 weeks. Very impersonal, dry, NEVER coming back.

The worst part about it is i just found out I was pregnant and this was my very first apt for this pregnancy. Still on mine. Wish I could change him. I don't even know how I got referred to him. Nurses are SO RUDE. It takes about three weeks to get to see him after much complains to the nurses and when u see him, he doesn't advice , ask questions or answer ur questions. Very SLOW. Couldn't give me my due date too. I will just rate him as " doesn't care". Still working to see if I can change to another doctor because I wouldn't want him to catch my baby. THIS IS A TERRIBLE DOCTOR. IVE BEEN GOING TO THIS DOCTOR SINCE I FIRST FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT. He never shows concern, He is very unfriendly doesn't seem as if hes a people person at all. I promise ive never seen this man smile!! Every single appointment I attended literally had about a hour wait just for him to come in for no more than 5 mins. I feel this doctor is a rip off. ive had 3 different due dates and now im finally at one set due date because I went to the hospital and the date they told me was nothing near any of the dates they had told me. The date I received from him was a whole month off. Not to mention he's always out of the office and having other nurses taking his appointments for him, they treat you way better and show so much care toward you, to the point where I was looking to change to one of them. The tie breaker for me was my last appointment October 19th of 2016 I believe my appointment was for 4:30 MIND YOU I WAS THERE 15 MINS PIOR TO MY APPOINTMENT. ON TIME!!!! other patients as well as myself sat in the lobby for literally 2+ hours I know for myself I sat there 3 hours and I was constantly asking when will I be seen, the nurses/receptionist were so rude and kept telling me to sit and wait patiently . After about 3 1/2 hours of being there I finally got up to requested to reschedule. At that point I was told I would be seen in the next 5 mins and I asked what was taking so long and I was told that he had went to deliver a baby... Now being that im pregnant myself I understood he had to go , but it bothered me at the unprofessionalism that they didn't even have the courteous to tell his patients the situation at hand , so at that point we could all decided if we wanted to wait or reschedule... At about 4hours after my scheduled appointment u was finally called back into a room where I waited 20 more mins.. I got up in rage beginning to leave as I was walking out I seem Dr. Michael Amaro in his office at his desk "taking a nap" so of course I began to explain my anger , he woke up took me into a room listened to the baby's heartbeat for 20 seconds at the most ask me was everything ok then told me to go set another appointment for 2 weeks..... I left... Then on October 28thth 2016 I received a letter in the mail telling me that he will not no longer see me as a patient because I "raised a disturbance in his office" Which I didn't! now im 27 weeks which makes it hard for me to find another doctor because of the simple fact im so far along. With all that being said DONT GO HERE !!! SO UNPROFESSAL I have never experienced anything like this before. If YOU ARE LOOKING TO SPEND MONEY ON LESS THAN 5 MIN APPOINTMENTS AND DONT GET PROPER CARE YOU NEED BE MY GUEST BUT I DEFINATLY WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE, NO MATTER WHO AND WHAT THEY NEED DONE!!!! Only seen dr. once whole time I've been going for my pregnancy Some of the nurses are okay I think they show more concern then he do. When he came said hello and checked baby heartbeat and said I'll see you back in two weeks no conversation at all I had to ask was everything okay with the baby.Just can't wait to have my baby so I can be done with this office almost there couple more weeks.I just hopes he delivers my baby safely without any complications. Dr. Amaro is excellent at listening to your needs and concerns. He is the kind of Doctor that takes that time to ask how you are doing? Every visit is pleasant and the staff are friendly. I have been seeing Dr. Amaro for more than 8 years. He is a cool dr. I highly recommend him.

The most terrible experience. On my very first time meeting him he walked in the room said his name and told me to lay down and open my legs. Didn't explain what he was doing didn't ask me if I had questions or concerns, didn't even attempt to smile or make small talk. I will never be back. I couldn't imagine seeing such an unprofessional awkward doctor my entire pregnancy

Throughout my pregnancy I got to see Dr Amaro only twice! He doesn't spend enough time with the patient after a looong wait (40 minutes +) and he doesn't listen to your questions or gives you a chance to ask. I wouldn't recommend this Dr. He was on leave when I gave birth and I had no Dr to take care of me and this is not the first time he goes on leave during my pregnancy period. The front desk ladies are very rude too.
