Dr. Dwyer ensured I was informed and taken care of. He has great bed side manners and his work is amazing. He repaired my pectoral major and I feel great. I would recommend him anytime.
Patient Beware! I am here to inform you of my experience with Dr. Matthew M. Dwyer, MD. I had a fall on 10/31/20 and visited Dr Dwyer's office on 11/2/20. It was a last minute appointment so my initial visit was with his PA, Andrej J. Arquitola. They performed an x-ray on my right hand/wrist and the PA determined I had a fracture in the scaphoid bone in my left wrist. They issued me a brace and scheduled a CT scan at Baptist imagining. Shortly after the CT scan, I had a follow up with Dr Dwyer to provide the results, and he informed me there is no fracture. The pain must be coming from ligament strain and what the PA saw on the Xray must be some sort of arthritic wear and tear (laymen's term). He had me come back in two weeks for a follow up. In the follow up (roughly a month after the incident) I mentioned the pain is still constant and was limited to what I could do with my left hand. He continued to say it must be ligament issues and advised I take off the brace as I needed to get movement back to help with the recovery. Then said for me to come back in a month if the pain persists. At this point I left the office with getting absolutely no answers from Dr. Dwyer but knew something wasnt right. I did listen to him and didnt wear the brace in the event it was just me thinking too much into it and maybe I did need to just work it out. But after the next month came I decided it was time for a second opinion. Dr Rowland at TSAOG came highly recommended by multiple people so I scheduled an appointment with him in December. He ran his own xray and looked at the CT scan and immediately called out the fracture. He insisted we get a MRI to get a better look at that was scheduled immediately. The MRI furthered his diagnoses, but given he was now starting to lean towards surgery he wanted me to get another CT scan as the MRI was looking through a few bones and he needed to have a better look before putting me under the knife. I pushed back on CT scan since Dr Dwyer said that came back false, and honestly it cost a lot of money for the first one. He insisted given the criticalness with the scaphoid bone being fragile and prone to dying given the lack of blood circulation. I scheduled another CT scan with TSAOG before leaving the office. Once I got home I called the Director of Baptist Imagining as they must of misinformed Dr. Dwyer and I had to call in my complaint. The Director took my request and reviewed the results from her Radiologist. She called me back and stated her Radiologist did state there was no fracture but did recommend a MRI to be performed as part of the report. She shared it with me and that concluded that Baptist Imagine wasn't at fault, as it was Dr Dwyer that misguided me and stated there was nothing wrong, must be ligament issues, and to take off my brace to help with recovery. I did perform my second CT scan, and the results came back positive and Dr, Rowland insisted I have surgery. Surgery was scheduled on 3/2/21(4 months after my first visit at Orthopedic Performance Institute) to perform a bone graft, and place a screw in my scaphoid to help keep the bone together. The thing amount the scaphoid is that it doesn't get good blood circulation so I am having to use a bone stimulator twice a day for the foreseeable future to keep the bone from dying out and causing further issues Two weeks after surgery I received a bill from Dr. Dwyers office for a balance of $124. Given all I covered above I called to ask if they can credit the $124 and the office manager, Terry, stated she would speak with Dr. Dwyer. Terry called me back today to let me know Dr Dwyer will not credit the $124 as he believes he handled my case correctly. It's not about the $124, but rather admitting you made a mistake and correct the situation with your patient. I wouldnt normally post a review so detailed but given all I went through with Dr Dwyer I felt it is warranted. Patient Beware! I am here to inform you of my experience with Dr. Matthew M. Dwyer, MD. … More

I have now had two trigger finger release surgeries, by Dr Matthew Dwyer, I trust him completely! I recently has a minor issue with my hand and I want to make it known, that his PA, Andre J. Arquitola MPAS, PA-C was OUTSTANDING, to say the least, getting back to me with my concerns, more than once. I trust this team, and will always choose them in the future. Very, very happy with Dr Dwyer, his staff and overall his practice. I had a 10:30am appointment for hip/leg pain and I’m already out and it’s only 11:10am. He saw me on time, which it’s HUGE these days when some doctors have no respect for their patients’ time and you have to wait for 1 or 2 hours to be seen. The front desk quickly checked me in, I was then taken to a room to get an x-ray of my hip, then to the examination room where a nurse took my vital signs and did some screening questions. Dr Dwyer saw me a few minutes after and he was professional and courteous. He listened to my questions and answered them to my satisfaction. I’m happy with the treatment he recommended. During this COVID experience, you realize how a business is run, even a hospital. My 70yr old father had surgery and no one bothered to communicate with me knowing that I could not be there in the hospital. I do not live with my father and I work in the food industry, so I cannot have a lot of contact with him because of this pandemic. When I picked him up I had a plastic barrier between the front seat and the back seat because I wanted my father to be safe in case I was asymptomatic for COVID. The nurse who wheeled my father downstairs rolled her eyes and said "we don't recommend them sitting in the back". How would I have ever known that? When it came to filling his prescriptions, I was unaware of the drugs they were prescribing and they were duplicates of what he already had. I spent a lot of time investigating. When I picked my father up from his surgery I asked him for details. He was unaware. The doctor chose without consulting my father or his family. I wish I knew before.
The is the best in class orthopedic physician in practice for the central Texas region. We is an expert on taking care of my old creaking knees. I wholeheartedly recommend you see him about your orthopedic knees.
I was a patient for almost 2 years. With severe knee pain, he said knee replacements were in the near future for quality of life. We started with multiple rounds of Synvisc in both knees. The pain never was better so surgery was scheduled for knee replacement. When we were scheduling I told him I had severe metal allergies, his PA said I needed testing but Dr. Dwyer said no it was okay. That just confirmed I needed a second(third) opinion. Thank goodness I found a wonderful orthopedic surgeon that ran new tests and X-rays, I have RA. Surgery was NOT RECOMMENDED. I was referred to a rheumatologist and started treatment. Surgery wouldn’t have helped, it was completely unnecessary. It was hard to find out I have an autoimmune disease but disheartening to find out after a few years that I was misdiagnosed and given medications that were never going to help. So caring, Happy, amazing ,I had a shoulder replacement and all is well now.
Dr. Dwyer repaired my torn archilles tendon. He did a great job and I am back to normal.
Dr. Dwyer was very courteous and nominative about the whole process. Dr. Dwyer treats his patients with respect and also listens to his patients. Thank you Dr. Dwyer.
Dr. Dwyer was very thorough in his consults, patient care, and advanced techniques. You would be hard-pressed to find a better surgeon to address your orthopedic issues. “A class act” ... always a professional.
I have been a patient of Dr Dwyer for over 10 years now. He repaired my Meniscus (had 3 others) and he did a great job. He also replaced my right knee and I am so happy with the work he did. He is NOT quick to cut and will use other methods to heel you before discussing surgery. GREAT Dr!!!
Couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of my hip replacement surgery. Over the several months of trying to make up my mind whether to have replacement surgery at all, I ran across 4 or 5 people who had hip replacements done by Dr. Dwyer and all of them had great things to say about him. They were right! Dr. Dwyer was not “quick to cut” like some surgeons; he was also very attentive and informative. My surgery was a breeze, recovery swift. I will not hesitate when it’s time for the other hip to be replaced! Couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of my hip replacement surgery. I love Dr. Matthew Dwyer and his nurses. Only problem I really have is the administration/front desk. This year it has been so difficult to get through on the phones, always the voice mail and never receive a call back. I have seen 3 or 4 receptionist at the front desk and they don't answer the phone. Question is WHY??? Since 2012 I am a patient and had great service from the front desk cause there was only two receptionists, I believe one was Christi and they answer the phones.
I have been to see Dr. Dwyer twice now for two different injuries. Both of my experiences were very pleasent. From scheduling the appointment to actually seeing Dr. Dwyer, everyone was very nice and helpful. Dr. Dwyer is very knowledgeable. He was very good at explaining what my injuries were, and both times he was spot on with his diagnosis. I have since moved to Austin, but I won't hesitate to make the drive to see Dr. Dwyer again. Having a Dr. that truly cares for his patients is worth it!
I am still dealing with severe stiffness in my hand that requires 5-10 minutes every morning to work out after a misdiagnosis by Dr. Dwyer which left my finger/hand in a splint for 11 weeks, 5 weeks longer than it should have been. This is much longer than a hand should be splinted in most cases because, even without an injury, it causes potentially permanent stiffness in the hand and fingers (as I learned during this experience). Backstory: I was referred to Dwyer by my GP for a broken ring finger at the outer knuckle BECAUSE there was knuckle involvement, definitely ligament damage, and potentially tendon damage. Dwyer reviewed the x-rays from my GP, said the bone placement looked fine, and asked me to come back in 4 weeks. He deferred any examinations of ligament and tendon damage until the next visit (rightfully so at that time). Note that x-rays only show bones, not tendons or ligaments (I learned this fact during this experience). When I returned, Dwyer was not present (to my surprise) but had left instructions for his PA to remove the splint if new x-rays looked fine and buddy tape my broken ring finger to my middle finger. The PA did so and advised me to begin using my hand to regain range of motion. I did so over the next few days. No examination was done for ligament or tendon damage. A few days later I noticed I could not straighten my ring finger under its own power, but I could straighten it easily with my other hand. This is called "mallet finger" and is typically caused by an impact injury (which I had) when the extensor tendon tears loose at the outer knuckle. I called Dwyer's office and after repeated attempts to reach him, finally was put in touch. He advised me to re-splint the finger and come in for an office visit. I did so, at which point he advised me that the treatment for mallet finger is to splint it for 6 weeks followed by nightly splinting for 2 more weeks. Because I had begun using my finger again on his advice via his PA, I had to start this splinting ALL OVER AGAIN. My final visit to Dwyer was in December, about 11 weeks of splinting from the original injury, when he advised me to stop the constant splinting and move to splinting at night only. I received a bill for this visit in March. When I received the bill, I called and questioned if they thought it was right to bill me for treatment required because of Dwyer's mistake. The office said they would check with Dwyer and get back to me. That didn't happen, and I received additional follow up requests for payment. Although I think there are likely grounds for a malpractice suit due to the stiffness in my hand (which I HOPE is not permanent but is still present 5 months after the splint came off), I have decided that it, and Dr. Dwyer, are not worth my time. I made final payment today, shortly before I started writing this review. If any of my friends or family asked me if they should use Dr. Dwyer for any service, tendon related or other, I would strongly suggest that there are other doctors in the San Antonio area that are better choices, and Dwyer is just not worth the risk. I am still dealing with severe stiffness in my hand that requires 5-10 minutes every morning to work out after a misdiagnosis by Dr. Dwyer which left my finger/hand in a splint for 11 weeks, 5 weeks longer than it should have been. Dr. Dwyer is a nice enough guy, but he is not the doctor I would recommend if you have any issue that potentially involves tendons or ligaments, or any issue that will potentially involve specific physical therapy or rehab. This feedback box is too short to tell the story, but basically he didn't pay attention to ligament and tendon damage for a broken finger, causing me to remain in a splint for 11 weeks (way too long for a hand), and resulting in long term range of motion and stiffness issues

Dr. Dwyer has been a fantastic orthopedic physician for myself and several of my friends and coworkers. I had a 95% tear of my supra spinitus and a bicep tendon tear due to a bonespur in my shoulder. It hurt so bad prior to surgery I couldn't even lay down to sleep without pain. He did a fantastic job in surgery and I'm now 100% with no pain. Awesome doctor and a great man!

Dr. Dwyer is an outstanding orthopedic surgeon. He is an exceptional listener. He always had a "can do" positive attitude. Not a trace of arrogance in this man.

Talked to Tina the nurse at office must say u can't find nurses like her anymore. Very happy with dr Dwyer he has been taking care of my knee and ankle . Pleased with outcome of surgery
Dr Dwyer is a personable man, however has left me with life-long problems. After a total knee replacement, he refused to listen to my concerns. Not only was my tibial component loose for nine months, but the implant was actually recalled due to that problem. He ignored my pleas and MRIs which showed a possible loosening. In addition, against my better judgement, because no other orthopedic surgeons in our town will give a second opinion, Dr Dwyer performed my second surgery. HUGE MISTAKE!
