Dr. Matthew G Buxton

I will recommend Dr. Buxton to anyone who needs a dermatologist! He was great--very personable, took all my questions seriously and gave understandable explanations. The office staff and medical assistant were all very professional and pleasant--I can't say enough about what a positive experience it was. And I waited less than 5 minutes to get in! You can't beat that!

I'll admit that I am very aware of how media and advertising affects our self-image and esteem. I studied it in college and I changed my lifestyle to cut out the *you're-not-pretty-enough-so-buy-our-product* type messages. They're difficult to avoid, but I find it's important to ignore these messages to have a healthy self-image. That's why I was totally disgusted by the messages plastered all over the walls at this office. I get that people want to look young and will buy products to do so, but do you have to feed into your patients' poor self image? Everywhere you turn is a little hint that you're not good enough! Open up those pockets, folks! You need better eyelashes and botox everywhere! I guess this is what dermatology is all about now. At least that's the impression I got from this office. And I'm not even going to get into the appalling session I had with the doctor. Let me just say, you can try harder. This was my first time seeing Dr. Buxton. His reception staff and nurse were pleasant and friendly. There was virtually no waiting. And the doctor himself was friendly, informative, and helpful. He answered my questions, attended to my issues, and had time for some extras on my dermatology to-do list. He handled it all with a pleasant, friendly manner. I have had a wonderful experience with Dr. Buxton. I am sad to see any negative reviews. He is very professional, personable and knowledgeable.

I have gone to Dr. Buxton for years. I have no problem getting in to see him. He is easy to talk to and most importantly, he knows what he is doing.

They always go great.

I saw Dr. Buxton today for a comprehensive skin evaluation, and he took time to answer my questions and address all my concerns. He was very friendly, patient, and made me feel at ease!!!

Dr. Buxton is gracious, professional and forthright when discussing one's medical issues. He has saved me from pain and suffering more than once. I consider him an outstanding physician.

The receptionist at the front desk was extremely rude this morning. She obviously needs customer service training. I will never be back!

Forget seeing this doctor if you're over 65. I've seen Dr. Buxton several times. However, I'm recently retired, and now have Medicare as my primary insurance, and an excellent BC/BS as my secondary. However, because I now have Medicare, they will no longer see me (unless I'm willing to pay all cash up front), because they don't accept Medicare, will not submit a claim for BC/BS. He might be a good doctor technically but is very rude to patients family members. I was not even acknowledged by the doctor and did not even speak to me after he was done removing tissue from a malignant mole. My husband may not be his love of his life but her certainly is mine and I deserve to be told what he did and what to expect.

This guy is a creep. Most likely the only reason why he's still able to practice in Lawrence is because there aren't many dermatology practices in town. I found his mannerisms to be otherwise fairly mild but on more than one occasion, he walked into the exam room without knocking WHILE I was changing out of my clothes and into my gown. NOPE. That is such a basic best practice in the medical field that I have to conclude that he doesn't care about his patients' sense of privacy or dignity.

BAD. If you want nothing but hassle, a doctor who's staff is rude and don't care that they don't take care of the tasks they are paid to take care of, then I guess this is your place. Would never recommend to my family or friends.

I have an actual skin disease that is affecting my overall health. Dr Buxton did nothing to biopsy, look under microscope, or actually diagnose. He was rude, said picking at my skin is the problem, and prescribed a cream that my pharmacist said is 50 bucks because it is not covered by insurance because it is made out of things found in any kitchen and contains no actual medication. Meanwhile, i have had to be referred elsewhere and if he had taken the time to actually figure it out, i would have less scars, would have been able to keep my job and be back to myself instead of it progressing this far, which turns out is affiliated with Lymes disease. My review is based on my experience from ~2 years ago. I had a skin condition and was referred to this practice by my physician. Dermatologist Dr. Buxton seemed distracted/disinterested. Spent less than a minute looking at my skin and told me this was a mysterious condition and there was no treatment or cure for this. Didn't bother to investigate further either. This is a really great office! They are always so helpful and get you in for an appointment as quick as possible. Dr. Buxton and staff are fantastic, my whole family has been to see them and I've sent many friends!

After waiting months for an appointment, the doctor was rude and condescending. He talked to me as if I was stupid when I am a person with a master's degree. He had no interest in finding out what was wrong with my skin and prejudged me without even doing any testing to try to determine the cause of the problems. My skin is in actual pain and I have no answers and have received no help. I would not only not recommend this provider, but would advise people who need actual help and want a doctor

Got right in to see the doctor, with no wait time. Dr. Buxton and his staff are very professional and courteous.

Great experience! I highly recommend Dr. Buxton! My son had itchy skin for 5 months and we tried everything to stop the itching. We scheduled an appointment right away. The staff were very nice and welcoming. No wait time for us. Once we explained our son's itching condition, it was a quick response from Dr. Buxton. He knew exactly what caused the skin itching. Awesome Dr! Very professional and did an amazing job at diagnosis and treating my systems. The staff was also very pleasant

I have seen Dr. Buxton for several conditions, he has done multiple skin checks on me and has seen my children for conditions as well. He has a very friendly staff, is able to get me in quickly and is a friendly doctor. He is thorough and takes him time.

Dr. Buxton treated me very good. But I am so sorry that the girl who take my appointment was so rude. Also when I called in to make my payment, once again she was the girl who answered me. She did not even had a greeting word. Unprofessionally and bad attitude: " Want to pay your bill?" " Name?" " DOB?" " Credit card number?" " Amount?" That was all what she had move her mouth to talk with client.

Staff is fine but make sure don't have anywhere to be the day of your appointment...been waiting over a half hour for a 15 minutes appointment.

I saw Dr. Buxton for the first time last week to find a cure for a chronic skin allergy/rash that I have been dealing with for years. The nurse seemed uninterested in any details about the history of my condition. Dr. Buxton came in and diagnosed me with something before even looking at my rash. He mocked me and raised his voice when I asked for more details about the diagnosis, then he handed me a brochure to read, and then he said I don't know what to tell you about finding a treatment. BAD!

Dr was condescending. Acted like I wasted his time. Desk staff acted like it was a real burden to get a receipt to me. Not impressed. Won't be going back.

I have only been to Dr. Buxton once but was very pleased and impressed with his approach and thoroughness to my issues. I will definitely continue going to him for all my dermatological problems.

I have gone to 3 dermatologists with no help, tried tons of pills and creams, finally I tried free state in Lawrence Kansas, Dr, bruxton took the time to listen to everything I had tried, took the time to look at my skin, was very gentle with my sensitive skin, and finally I have skin that is clearing up! I highly highly highly recommend free state dermatology, they got me in there busy schedule and took care of my skin and its great now!
