About Dr. Matthew Robert Brown
Reviews for Dr. Matthew Robert Brown
I wish I could give Zero stars. There is a reason why Dr. Matthew Brown is no longer in his own private practice. He doesn't listen to his patients!!! I have seen Dr. Brown for 7 years, including 3 days before he closed his practice on Ingersoll. My fifth and final set of tubes were a pair of permanent tubes (to never fall out), I've had for 20+ years. On many occasions he made remarks that HE did not like that I had permanent tubes at my age, I told him to just clean the tubes. Our last appointment, without warning, notice or numbing solution, he proceeded to pull my left permanent tube out causing severe pain and bleeding which lasted several days. He dropped my tube to the floor before I could see it. In my records, in our last visit notes he states that the tube was just lying in the ear canal. Where did the blood and pain come from? Now I have severe diminished hearing in my left ear. UPDATE:. Not 10 months after this tube was pulled, I ended up having another tube installed by another Dr. The hole completely healed up. If I could I would send that bill to "Dr." Matthew Brown for payment. I wish I could give Zero stars. There is a reason why Dr. Matthew Brown is no longer in his own private practice. Dr. Brown has always been very helpful and willing to listen when my kids have had a problem. He gets to the point and tells it like it is. We have been going to him for over 10 years and will continue to go to him. Highly recommended.
Please, I beg of anyone that considers this doctor to go elsewhere. He is a horrible doctor and surgeon. I am a very educated and young person. I went for a septoturbinoplasty from him in March. It was done to try and reduce my turbinates and help my septum deviation. First visit, he basically just listened to my symptoms and scheduled a surgery date, no imaging or x-rays. Surgery day comes and he hadn't even told me what the procedure was, I learned what it was called from my bill. I just went into the operation trusting that he knows what he is doing. After the procedure, I felt nothing get better. I went a little late to my post op, due to covid, and I complained of whistling from my nose, bleeding, and pain. He did nothing of it, he just brushed the symptoms off and led me out of his office. Four months later, I went to the University of Iowa, and they discovered two very obvious holes in my septum and other complications. Recently I went back to his office and complained of a recent chunk of hard price cartilage that dislodged from my nose, and why he failed to see two noticeable holes in my septum and how he failed to do anything about my symptoms. And this guy, a licensed doctor, gave the excuse that my nose was "dirtier than by buttcrack", and said that he didn't remember me complaining about any of these symptoms. He also admitted that he didn't even fix my septum, what I was charged for, because of bone in the way. As a reasonable doctor, he should have looked for that before he admitted me to this procedure, maybe some imaging or x-rays, or at least take the damn charge off for something he didn't do. When I came back for questioning about why my procedure went so bad, his excuses were mainly "I'm sorry to hear that" and "I've done this operation on thousands of patients". Now I am 19 and needing corrective surgery for what this lame excuse for a doctor failed to notice. I am well inclined with the medical field, and this doctor is a sad sad excuse for a doctor, he doesn't even deserve the right to see a patient. Please, if he is the last ENT on the planet, DO NOT SEE HIM, he has ruined my nose, shoved me into lots of medical bills, and hasn't taken responsibility for his actions. Dr. Brown knows what he is doing. Great ENT. He’s quick because he knows what he is doing. If you want an ENT to sit and bs/chat with you about nothing for 30 minutes go elsewhere. Thanks doc!
Destroyed my nose. Been to multiple doctors who have peaked in my nose and said, my gosh, did you use to see Matthew Brown? He should have his credentials revoked
The worst experience ever. Ordered for my wife the wrong CT scan. Instead of the throat CT he ordered sinus CT and we found about it accedently when my wife went to another doctor for the second opinion...!!!
Tried to explain to the receptionist my need for an appointment and was cut off asking for my date of birth. Could not even take the time to acknowledge my name. With that reception I said let's just forget it and her reply was why, I just asked for your date of birth. A poor first impression.
I unfortunately can not give him anymore stars. He does not take anytime to hear the patient or their needs. His bedside manner is poor. It makes me sad because his father was an amazing ENT and I went to him for years. His dad was compassionate and caring, followed through with his cares. Matthew just tries to get people in and out the door and has a “know it all attitude.” I use to recommend this clinic to everyone but now I wouldn’t send anyone here. Patients are more than numbers they are people and I don’t think he see that. There are several other ENTs the area don’t settle for this. I miss his dad. One the best ENT doctor, been going for 20 years.
First and foremost my visit with Dr.brown was worth the weight in gold he treated me with respect and was concerned about my right ear being I had skin cancer and had my surgery the nurse who took my stiches out was so much company she asured me everytime she had her scissors in her hand that she cared I gave them 5 stars
Had a Tonsillectomy done by Dr. Brown, he was very quick and to the point, and was always available to answer questions for me. His staff at the head office were also very helpful.
Awesome experience! I took my 4-year old and 2-year to Dr. Brown and he was exceptional. He provided professional service and our appointments were quick (which was much appreciated with toddlers). Great staff, doctor and experience overall.
He was excellent! Had tonsils removed and minor nose and ear surgery. Now I feel better than ever. Dr. Brown was very down-to-earth and easy to talk through my options. He listened to everything and had a different approach than Iowa ENT. I would highly recommend him!!!
I am not a patient of his, however, I work in a medical office where we do work very closely with Dr. Brown and his staff. I have never been treated so rudely and so unprofessional by a physician and his nurses. I can guarantee that I will not be referring anyone to this clinic as I feel your patient care will not be met. Where I work, we do everything in our power to make sure that every little detail is met in order to have the best outcome of your diagnosis and/or prognosis because that is what you DESERVE!!

Anyone know a good ENT? Dr. Brown missed the mark by a mile.
When I read those 'one star' reviews, I am wondering if we went to the same doctor. I, for one, give Dr Brown the highest possible rating. If there were six stars, that's what I would give him. Sign in was fine--no nonsense. And Dr. Brown MADE ME BETTER. 'Nuff said. Actually at this point I would place him as the second best doctor in Des Moines, a distant second to Jesus. After reading these reviews, I was nervous to see Dr. Brown. I kept my appointment keeping in mind that people usually only articulate bad experiences and so often good experience go unsung. My wait to be seen by the doctor was less than 5 mins. When I walked back, he walked in the room behind me. He was thorough and kind. I liked him, I would go back! We felt Dr brown was abrupt and rude. He gave us the feeling we were wasting his time. After my husbands hearing test he just said you have hearing loss so it is up to you what you want to do about it. That was it. What a waste of time and money.
Dr. Brown has one office where he is impossible to see. I was left to see a PA-C over and over again for the same reoccurring problem. When I finally did get to see him, he was short with me and dismissive. The problem was not solved until I went to another doctor. I would never recommend this arrogant man to anyone.
Don't go here.
I WOULD NOT recommend this Dr. to anyone. He was a sexist condescending jerk!!
This man is as obnoxious as they come. I was told by him that adults don't get fluid in their ears, so I wasn't getting the ear infections that I claimed I was - tell that to the other doctors that actually told me about the fluid and the ear infections and told me to see an ENT. He is obtuse and rude.
I think his surgical skills are probably ok, but the communication and customer service skills of him and his staff are all but non-existant.
My 91 year old father was scheduled to have his ears cleaned ultrasonically by a technician. The nurse took his blood pressure and it was 195/45. My dad asked Dr Brown if it was a concern and he said it must be a mistake, he could have cared less, and took less than 10 minutes to dig out the wax, not the correct way to clean ears ever!. This Dr does not care about his patients and my dad could have had a heart attack driving home....My dad went back to Calvin and the nurse took his blood pressure and it was over 200. I was in need of surgery and he was great to work with. I'd recommend him.
Great consultations. Dr. Brown sticks to the important topics and is direct on how to best help a person so there's NO misunderstandings. Thank you for all that your clinic does for me! Had a bad experience at another allergist and am thankful I found this one.
I was referred to Dr. Brown by my PCP. Dr. Brown's office was direct, courteous and helpful throughout my entire visit which extended to surgery. Dr. Brown was efficient in diagnosing the problem and providing solutions. I wouldn't change a thing about my experience with Dr. Brown and his staff and would recommend him to others.
Very rude and unprofessional. I work at a pharmacy and called to leave a message for him about a patient. Apparently, he was paged (never asked for him to be paged) and when I spoke to him on the phone he told me I was bothering him. Told me I should know his business hours and to not disturb him after hours and proceeded to hang up on me. I am a patient of Matt Brown and I will no longer see him and recommend to all my friends and family to seek medical attention elsewhere.

Dr. Brown is very quick and to the point,in but I’m not a person that loves spending hours in a doctors office. He answered all of my questions and corncerns regarding both myself and my son, and wait times are never long.

This place is BEYOND awful. The staff and especially Dr. Matt Brown. I simply called to get medical information regarding my step daughter, and the office COULD NOT give me a simple yes or no as to if she (stepdaughter) even still had both her tubes in her ears as I called to get her surgery scheduled the week before and was advised she did not have any tubes per the staff. As Dr. Brown returned to the office, he not only called me back to advise he had answered all my medical questions, but if

Dr Brown and his allergy staff are awesome! However, the gal at the front desk is rude and grumpy. I just called to see what time my appointment was today because I forgot. After I said ok, thank you, she hung up. No "good bye". No "we will see you at 1". She just hung up. When you go in there to check in, she looks grumpy, acts grumpy, she IS grumpy and rude! Find someone else to represent your office. Not the first thing people want to see when they want in.
I was looking for a consultation and instead all I got was "do you want tubes or not" and about 4 minutes of his time- during which he kept looking at his watch. If you want a consultation, someone to discuss and explain your options, Dr. Brown is not the right choice.
