I went to this office for my annual exam. Two months earlier I had breast reconstructive surgery following a full mastectomy. While nurse Laura Cooper was performing an exam on my remaining breast, she commented that she “wasn’t impressed” by the surgery, which was performed by a board certified plastic surgeon who has an EXCELLENT reputation in Reno. She made another comment about my appearance which I cannot write here. It’s bad enough to have breast cancer and to endure the trauma of 9 months of chemotherapy, 6.5 weeks of daily radiation and a full mastectomy. To then have a medical “professional” negatively comment about my breast reconstructive surgery is not only beyond the pale, it is cruel and demeaning. Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY! There’s a reason this office has received so many negative reviews.

I just called the office to schedule a consult and what I need to be seen for they do not specialize in -but the very kind receptionist referred me to two doctors (and gave me their phone numbers) that do specialize in what I need. When it comes to having health concerns, good luck feeling cared for. I have called during the day multiple times and I get routed to the after hours. Good luck trying to get in contact with someone. If you dial another doctors extension, sometimes someone answers the phone and then you may get a response in return.

I don't recommend this doctor. Instead of prescribing bioidentical progesterone for fibroids she was recommending hysterectomy. After reading the book by Roger Mason: Natural Health for Women I learned more about women's' issues and how to treat them naturally without the butchery as this doctor recommends. I don't find her honest.

This was my primary women's health clinic in 2016, and my interactions with the nurse practitioners were typically wonderful. However, it feels important to state that this clinic DOES NOT practice trauma-informed care. The detached 'bedside manner' that other commenters have pointed out in Dr. Wellhoner was my experience as well, to the degree that this doctor can actually do harm when working with individuals who have experienced sexual trauma. If you have experienced sexual trauma, consider whether it will be ideal self care to visit a physician who will not always listen, respect your needs, or allow you agency in decisions surrounding your body if she thinks she knows best. I went for an appointment months ago. I had so many questions and concerns but the whole appointment felt rushed. I was charged $50 and didn’t get what I needed out of it. I decided to go back for an issue I have but my doctor had to cancel which is okay I understand. So I called to make sure my appointment was canceled (if you don’t you get charged extra) and the receptionist was a bit rude. Beautiful office, polite staff; option to use insurance or self pay; Dr. was on time, patient, good bedside manner, thorough: referred for pelvic ultrasound before conducting pap or ordering bloodwork. Looking forward to follow up appt.

I really want to give them a 1, but I'm trying to be glass half full today. While I think Dr Wellhoner is technically good, if she's not in a good mood at the time you see her, you leave feeling like you've been taken to the woodshed. It has been a nightmare to get the compounded prescriptions filled. She recommends a mail away service, but the staff never submit the prescriptions. Then you get in a loop with the mail away service and, in my case, after 10 days, I gave up and went with the local compounding pharmacy. Which still ran into problems in that her office didn't call in the correct prescription. Try some other practice. I really want to give them a 1, but I'm trying to be glass half full today. I've been frustrated with the care I have received here. Dr. Wellhoner seems competent but she is definitely rather brusque and does not have the warmest bedside manner. I can live with that if I still get decent care, but I have also experienced a total lack of follow up about literally everything from this provider, which in my opinion is not acceptable. It took me 2 weeks to get the results of a basic blood test that the lab said I should receive in a few days, and even then no one contacted me. I had to call the office to get them, and one of my thyroid test results was abnormal. I then had a thyroid ultrasound, and the technician told me that my thyroid was enlarged and heterogeneous. He said that my provider should receive those results in the next day or two and call me to explain them, as well as referring me to an endocrinologist. Well, it's now been over a week and I have heard nothing. I also still haven't heard about the nexplanon implant that was supposedly ordered a month ago to help manage my endometriosis... I was told the office would call to schedule an appointment for the insertion, but at this point, I'm not holding my breath. It seems like very poor practice not to follow up with patients in a timely manner, especially when there are abnormalities/ medical issues, but even for normal test results I can never remember it taking this long for a provider to get back to me. Lastly (this is more of an aside), I think it's ridiculous that in the intake paperwork, you have to pick the lab facility that is covered by your insurance, and sign an agreement saying that if you pick the wrong facility, it's your fault and you are responsible for all costs. Why would a patient know off the top of their head which lab facility is covered by their insurance? The office doesn't even send anything to the lab... patients have to schedule an appointment with the facility and bring the test form themselves, so it just seems like a pointless source of confusion and stress, especially because the paperwork makes it sound like if you pick the wrong lab it will be the end of the world and your house will be repossessed or something. It unfortunately seems as though there aren't many good options for medical care available to the women of Reno... it is a big letdown relative to other places I have lived. Honestly, I am only continuing to use this provider because no one else has any availabilities until August, but at this rate, it might take just as long to get anything done at the Women's Wellness Center. She is always patient, listens and makes appropriate suggestions. Her staff has always been the best. The office caters to women of all ages. Never too sterile.

Dr. Wellhoner is an amazing Dr. She saved my life in 2007. I was younger and did know the statistics of female health issues. I would have never made it if her and her nurse would not have taken time to explain to me that these things are serious and just because I don't feel it or see does mean it is not there. Thank you Dr. Sapphire and the Women's Wellness Center. The only down side is, everyone in Northern Nevada must have learned my secret, because I am trying to get in for an exam but it's taking me 2 months, 2other visits to the community health alliance, and still haven't been successful at getting a "new patient" referral. Since its been 10 years since my last visit. But if anyone knows me, I wouldn't be proactively seeking an appointment if I weren't terribly ill. I came to see Dr. Wellhoner because I was experiencing severe pain. She was insensitive and hostile to my questions and concerns. She was very rough while she was examining me. She displayed no compassion or concern. I have started looking for a new gynecologist.

I'm delighted that my new insurance will let me return to Dr. Wellhoner. I have lived in Reno for 11 years and she's the only Dr. I've truly liked. She's thorough and her communication mode suits me.
