Mary performed a posterior L5 S1 back fusion. Prior to the surgery, while I did experience soreness and pain, I was still able to perform all athletic endeavors such as mountain and road biking, skiing back country and in bounds, running, climbing, hiking, yoga, Pilates, etc... 2.5 years later, due to extreme pelvic/sacral pain and nerve pain, I am limited to just walking. After receiving multiple second opinions, all said doctors agree I should have had an anterior fusion, not posterior.
