Highly recommended. Dr. McCarter treated me for esophageal cancer. Throughout a six-month process, he was generous with his time and expertise and helping me work through the multiple decisions to be made. His staff in the hospital and outpatient practice were helpful and knowledgeable. On the tenth day, following my surgery, while I was still in the hospital, Dr. McCarter came to my room at 8 pm to tell me personally that the pathology report found there were no cancer cells present.

Dr McCarter and team provided me with excellent care during my battle with esophageal cancer and resulting esophagectomy. Highly recommended!

Had surgery, went in for check up everything seemed to be fine. Aproximatly 2 weeks after the surgery I began having problems. Called numerous times for Dr. McCarter to please call me back. Every time the call was returned by the nurse. I was told what I was experiencing was normal. After demanding that I get into see the Dr. I was told they could not do anything until they received a new approval from the insurance. I finally drove 280 miles to be admitted to the hospital thru the ER. I was then told Dr. McCarter would be down in the morning to see me. The following morning I was released without McCarter ever coming down. I was giving a prescription without him even seeing me. I finally made another appointment with a new Dr. only to find out that scar tissue from the surgery had almost complete closed the colon. I had been like tihs for three month. I don't know if it was the scar tissue or something that went wrong during the surgery but I know have permanent damage. I wrote the patient advocate board thru the advise of some of the University staff members, only to find that he is on the board. My complaint came back with the conclusion that he follow "standard procedure". The short of it is after the surgery I never seen this Dr. again. Dr McCarter was a wonderful surgeon for my husband, very kind, compassionate and knowledgeable. He always told us what he could do instead of what he couldn't do like the other surgeons we had talked to. He or his team visited us many times in the hospital before and after surgery and we felt like the success of my husbands outcome was largely due to Dr McCarter.
