Mark J Kupersmith

Was referred to Dr. Kupersmith by another ophthalmologist and optometrist for persistent and debilitating double vision. Brought with me 3 published papers from research journals - one authored his own colleague - concluding double vision and other neurological vision issues could be caused by Covid or Covid vaccines. He gave the papers a cursory glance, laughed in my face, claimed one colleague was using Covid to get published and "no one with an Egyptian surname is doing any serious research" of another. Stated I was probably cross eyed as a child, despite me telling him I wasn't, and it had re-emerged as a mature adult. Dismissive, rude, asked me if I was still taking Estradiol (?! like that has anything to do with my double vision?), and hadn't read anything about neurological and ophthalmic conditions caused by Covid, 2 years into a pandemic. Unbelievable. There are now nearly 100 papers published in medical and scientific journals on the topic. Avoid this a$$hat.

Th doctor was patronizing, dismissive and generally argumentstive during the visit. The office staff were kind, helpful and patient. I will not see this doctor again if my eyes are falling out, and will advise others against visiting him as well.

He complained about all the decisions made by my other health care providers and went on several rants that didn’t have anything to do with my condition. He shut me down whenever I tried to explain what I’ve been feeling or other test results. He didn’t seem to care about what I was actually experiencing—only what he could perceive during his assessment. He was dismissive, sexist, and lacked compassion. I didn’t get to ask the questions that I came there for because he didn’t agree with my diagnosis and didn’t believe I really have a problem. I would have left in the middle of the visit, but I was scared that he would write something incorrect in my chart. I came to him for help, but left almost in tears. His staff was friendly and professional, but he has the worst bedside manner. Thank goodness I have other health care providers who are willing to listen to me and who actually believe me.

I just read 2 reviews that described my experience exactly. " The doctor himself was rude, dismissive and strangely antagonistic. He consistently interrupted me, mocked me " and "This doctor is incredibly impatient and was totally dismissive of all symptoms as my daughter tried to describe them. He was not at all interested in any of her medical history." I had come prepared with a chronological history of when I first perceived the symptoms of being slightly off balanced, and how by chance discovered that when I closed my left eye and only looked through the right eye, my whole body veered to the left. I had to beg him for me to show him this- he was not interested on a demonstration.I thought this explained why I was off balance, but needed to know WHY this happened. He told me he had no idea, threw my page of notes on a chair, saying "live with it, you are 75."

The tech running visual testing was visibly very sick (coughing and blowing her nose) and had to touch my face and be very close by for tests, I asked for a new tech. The doctor himself was rude, dismissive and strangely antagonistic. He consistently interrupted me, mocked me and implied that I had absolutely no knowledge of a condition I have been dealing with for five years. I will not be returning.

This doctor is incredibly impatient and was totally dismissive of all symptoms as my daughter tried to describe them. He was not at all interested in any of her medical history. He concluded that her symptoms, including a very visible strabismus of her left eye, were “all in her head” and suggested to us (and in his notes) that we follow up with a psychiatrist. My 12 year old daughter was devastated by this statement, as she was really hoping that he would be able to provide some answers, and possibly some relief from the double vision she has been experiencing. Just awful experience all around. But the office staff, however, was amazing! He doesn’t deserve them.

Had right eye looked at for neurological issues as referred. I am a female of color w/ years of chronic right side weakness & worsening spasms right side of face/ drooping eye. Staff was great but I'd give a negative rating to the doctor. 1. Impatient: did not take time listen to history or look at evidence. 2. Mental health BIASED - looks at meds you are taking and makes assumptions about mental health - does not give a change to explain. I've been on meds 14 years to manage mental health issues undiagnosed in childhood but I'm functioning well. He even used "all in your head" despite 7+ years of scientific eye tests proving the contrary! 3. Asked if diagnosed with "lazy eye". I said I don't know - I'm here to find out-my right eye droops and hard to keep open. (No access to health care until I was an adult and I've been busy working- being forced to address health issues now) 4. Provided a test report sheet - he did not bother to do half the tests and just marked the boxes normal!

Excellent doctor

He is a true professional and caring doctor. Most of all he is extremely knowledgeable, and is envolved in every aspect of his profession; from research to treatment. I've been his patient for the past 14 years, and am very pleased with the care he has given me. His staff his also very professional without being cold. The office is very comfortable and well managed. Wainting time is extremely reasonable. I pray that he doesn't retire any time soon and that he outlives me...
