Dr. Mark W Jalkut

Dr. Jalkut is an excellent surgeon and did a great job explaining everything to me and then removing my prostate. Do not expect any sense of urgency from him though. The biggest reason for the two stars is that his practice is horrible to communicate with. They have no portal or email available for communications to the doctor or PA. No one ever answers their phones. His "care coordinator" calls you back when she feels like it or many times it is ignored completely. They do have a portal for getting lab results but it is down most of the time. All that you can get out of them about it is that it is supported by a third party. No one seems to care. I am truly considering changing practices completely. It is ridiculously unprofessional. I have never encountered anything quite like it. Very frustrating!

Thoroughly explains your conditions and all ways of taking better care of your health. He does not rush when he is with you and answers your questions. Schedules follow-ups with you as needed. and lets you know you can come back earlier if needed.

Very knowledgeable and amazing bedside manner. He was caring, compassionate and laid out options, risks and concerns with care and honesty. The visit made me have complete trust in him with our decisions and healthcare

Dr. Jalkut is an exceptional doctor and surgeon. I ways diagnosed with low grade bladder cancer in 2008. Dr. J removed the tumors and treated my bladder with medicine. The tumors returned despite the treatment. Over a period of six years we attempted every treatment he could recommend. After six years of degrading bladder control and recurring tumors, Dr. J recommended and concurred that it was time to let it go. Dr J removed my bladder and constructed an external repository in an 8 hour Da Vinci surgery. The final biopsy confirmed the tumor had begun to invade the muscle in the bladder wall. Through this period, Dr J worked studiously to treat the tumors without needing to remove the bladder. His professionalism and that of his nurse made me comfortable that the decisions we made were the right ones at the right time. I will always be indebted to him for saving my kidney function and for his excellence in performing the surgeries as I needed them.

He is at the top of his field!!

I sought out Dr. Jalkut on the recommendation of a friend because I was discouraged and disappointed with the suggested treatment of a kidney tumor by a doctor at the Duke Raleigh Cancer Clinic. I am so glad I did; I knew within minutes of meeting the very personable Dr. Jalkut that I had made the right decision. My fears assuaged, I immediately made arrangements for surgery to remove the kidney with complete confidence that it would be handled by a physician knowledgeable and experienced in his field, as opposed to a doctor who would decide what to do when he got in there to look around. (Had I followed my instincts sooner I would not have had the unnecessary biopsy ordered by the Duke doctor which, unfortunately, could lead to the seeding of cancer in other organs.) I am only a week post surgery, but healing nicely, so feel comfortable saying that all is well and giving Dr. Jalkut the highest possible recommendation. Had a vasectomy on a Friday. Called the following Thursday in pain and talked to the nurse. She said doc might want to see me Friday and would follow up. No call Thursday night. No call Friday. Still in pain. Unacceptable.

I will recommend him to everyone I know in need of a good urologist. And I will leave a 5-star rating on every internet site available to do so.

I would heartily recommend Dr. Jalkut, ho took a lot of time explaining all the options and side effects and I recovered quickly and suffered no side effects.

Dr. Jalkut took out my left kidney two weeks ago due to a cancerous tumor. He did a fantastic job. I was in the hospital one night and recovered quickly. I am trying to think of something negative to say about him, but really can't. Maybe the office could do a better job of communicating. Would be nice if they had a functioning email system. If you are looking for someone to rub your back and say "everything is going to be alright" he might not be your guy. He is very professional and a "just the facts" kind of guy. A great surgeon that I would highly recommend.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and Dr. Jalkut took time to explain all my options and answer all of my questions and gave me his recommendation, which I followed, and 1 week after surgery I'm suffering NONE of the terrible side effects and ready to return to work tomorrow. I would recommend him to anybody in my situation!!! He's the best!!

Dr Jalkuut is the best doctor, both professionally, qualified, and personable doctor i have ever had.. I have had a slew of kidney stones, and no one else has come close to his abilities..

Dr. Jalkut is a highly competent physician. He puts the well being of his patients first in all matters. He has been my doctor for about five years and treated me for a number of ailments. I have found him to be caring as well as competent. I would literally trust him with my life. I highly recommend him.

I was told that I had prostate cancer and the first doctor I talked to really made me feel ill at ease with our discussion so I asked my PCP to recommend another doctor. I went to see Dr. Jalkut and he explained the procedures that could be done and each option. I felt very comfortable with him and had the DiVinci surgery performed by him on 1/18/12 and it was very successful and have been cancer free now for almost 5 years. I would recommend him highly to anyone that has any urology problems.

Does not have patient's interest foremost. I question his motives.

His internal lab uses a different machine and assay for PSA blood work that shows a 20% to 30% higher PSA than Lab Corp and other labs using different assays. A spike in my PSA was from his lab being higher than my history from other labs. Instead of retesting, he immediately insisted on a biopsy. 2nd opinion confirmed. I did not need a biopsy.
