Mark E Flanum

Dr. Flanum is the consummate physician/surgeon. Very approachable and caring. Answers all questions honestly and thoroughly. He left me with a feeling of great confidence and is very trustworthy. I cannot recommend Dr Flanum enough. He’s definitely not your typical surgeon. He’s a real person who does his best and I feel lucky to have him as my surgeon.

He was very thorough, not focused on surgery like many other surgeons. He offered alternatives, and said I could wait. I was very impressed.

Dr Flanum is an excellent surgeon... Referred from Dr Adcox here in Homer. I'm a week after surgery and home. Big surgery, but felt very safe and knew I was in a excellent hands. For me, Dr. Flanum is the best. Maybe I've just been very fortunate, but everyone I have dealt with at OPA has been first rate. I have other surgeons at OPA as well. My opinion of them is the same. Best in the city, best in the state. And it's not just the doctors. It's the PAs, nurses, admin staff, and schedulers. I have zero complaints regarding OPA. These people have improved my life. My quality of life. Something I am very grateful for. I cannot say enough good things about them.

Dr Flanum is more interested in making money through unnecessary invasive procedures than helping his patients. He is a rotten apple.

As usual dr Flanum explained what was going on with me, and that he can take care of my problems. He is absolutely a great physician and has a fantastic sense of humor. He’s great!!

Incredible surgeon. Fixed a 20 year long problem, knew exactly what to do, and explained it very well. Surgery is ALWAYS the last option with him. I can walk without pain now. He's good at what he does, for sure!

Dr. Flanum is a kind, professional doctor. He takes time to answer questions and is interested in helping his patients reduce any pain they are experiencing.

He's kind, practical and down to earth and doesn't do "more" when it isn't really going to help with the outcome. I return to him when I need to know.

Dr. Flanum was very professional and I was impressed on how well he explained my MRI I didn’t feel rushed , he took the time to make sure my son and I understood my diagnosis.

It was my one year follow up since my neck and back surgery. He has been nothing short of a miracle. He has went above and beyond to help me in a time where I literally was losing all hope. His staff is fantastic as well. The first time I met with him I knew he would be the one I would trust to do the surgeries. Very knowledgeable, friendly, understanding and above all compassionate about his work and patients. Thanks to him my daughter has her mom back to go on adventures with her. Thank you!

My experience was with Flanum was good. He tends to talk and move quickly (due to schedule) but will take the time to clarify anything if needed. He's good about making sure everything is good on patients end. His sidekick, Mike, takes all the time you need to make sure you know everything possible about medical issue, procedures, timelines etc. Both were a pleasure to be around and I'm glad I went to Flanum.

Dr. Flanum is a real gift to Southcentral Alaskans looking for a competent and caring spine surgeon. He is a good listener. He develops multiple options for patients. All things considered, it is relatively easy to obtain an appointment. The surgical follow-up is excellent; I have never felt like I was being "pushed out the door" after my surgery.

Very professional and straight forward with how best to address patient concerns.

I looked for treatment of a herniated disc in Soldotna and was put off for several months. Dr. Flanum got me into surgery into necessary surgery very quickly, and was there for me again when I reherniated just a few weeks after surgery. I needed another surgery asap as I was unable to walk and in the worst pain imaginable. Dr. Flanum made it happen and I am now pain free and healing well. I owe everything to Dr. Flanum and his team.

There is no orthopedic surgeon in Anchorage who in my opinion surpasses the care, expertise and compassion of Dr Mark Flanum.

Dr. Flanum has a rare blend of academic intelligence, emotional intelligence and technical skill that make him an excellent surgeon. If you want thoughtful, state of the art advice, he is a great person to have on your healthcare team. In my case, it wasn’t clear if surgery was needed or not. He felt surgery was not the best option, and guided me down a non-surgical pathway.

Wonderful

Dr Mark Flanum,is a very good doctor.I feel this man is highly qualified in his profession.He has performed 2 separate spinal fusions on me.One fusion was a 2 level on my neck.The other was a 4 level on my lower back.Dr Flanum did both surgery with precision.My symtoms have been fixed.I feel his background in spinal surgery is over the top.I would also like to say.This man is curteous and has a very well bedside manner.I truly believe he truly cares for his clients.I would highly recommend Dr Flanum for any surgery.

Very friendly showed genuine concern for me as a patient. Regular visits when in hospital and periodic Visits to make sure I was pleased with his operation. Helped me when Blue Cross questioned coverage.
