Marie R Callen

I have read some comments about Dr. Callen's attitude and demeanor. This is exactly what we experienced with her. Our son had been seen by an adult dentist with no issues, but figured it would be good for him to see a pediatric dentist. However, visits with her have not gone as well. You always think anyone who works with children would have the appropriate attitude and patience, but not the case with her. In reading comments from several years ago it seems people were very happy with her, but there seem to be more within the last year that have had the experience we had. Would not recommend.

Dr. Called and her staff have been our children’s dentist for almost 10 years. My oldest is 16 and his legs have long outgrown the pediatric chair. He’s sad that we had to find another dentist because he loves Dr Callen. Our youngest still has several years with her. The staff is supportive and explains every step of the process. They helped our sons work on problem areas to prevent cavities. We couldn’t be happier or ask more from a pediatric dentist.

Today my daughter was in pain. She was afraid. Instead of cooperating, they called her names. They didn’t let me help her and kept forcing me out of the room. They subjected us to pain and distress. I will complain to the state board.

Me and my son visited the dentist recently due to an emergency infection.After a 40 minute wait they took us back and started cleaning his teeth even though that’s not what I wanted to get. The doctor came and took X-rays and saw that there was an infection and had to pull his teeth out. She took my son by himself and said I couldn’t come back with him. 5 minutes later the dentist came out yelling in my face yelling that my son is rude and she refuses to work on him. I asked her what happened and she said nothing and neither did the other employees. I went back to get my son and he was shaking from fear while the doctor was still yelling at us as we left. I have never had any issues with my son, which is why this is a surprise. Once we got to the car I asked my son what happened as he was still in tears and shaking. He told me that the doctor was poking and hurting his mouth even though he was supposed to go on laughing gas first.He raised his hand to tell the doctor this and her response was to yell at my son for trying to talk. After that my son closed his mouth because that was the only way he could defend himself from getting hurt. The dentist got upset at this, threw her tools on the tray and stormed away after saying “What the hell!” Thats when she came out yelling at me and left my son scared. I’m confused as to what kind dentist that deals with kids everyday acts like this? It completely unprofessional for an adult to act like this in any scenario.I would not recommend this place to anyone. My son was left alone and scared when it’s her job to make kids feel good especially when they are already scared of dentists. We love dentist appointments! My kids are so bummed when it’s not their turn for an appointment. I have multiple special needs kids and the the staff is SO kind, accommodating and patient. Have you ever heard of kids and moms looking forward to dentist appointments??!? We highly recommend Dr. Marie Callen!

The quality of Dr. Callen’s pediatric dental practice is like none I’ve ever experienced. Her team is always so warm, friendly and amazing with my kids. The office itself is colorful, clean and safe (I would have said this before the pandemic and it’s even more so now). Dr. Callen herself is top notch! She’s the perfect balance of fun yet respectable for the kids and her level of honest, open, trustworthy and non-judgemental communication with me as a parent is amazing! Fantastic experience with the entire staff. We recently visited for the first time and were received very joyfully. Marie is an amazing individual and fantastic at what she does. These offices are also beautiful and colorful (who knew that a dentist office could feel as happy as a candy store). Did not like the experience today. Nurse and Doctor were making fun of 5 year old kid sarcastically. Will not go back here ever. To the Staff, ensure that you treat the kids in fun way rather than making fun of them.

My daughter and wife just came back from Dr. Callen's office in tears. My 5 year old just lost a tooth and was excited to go to the dentist, even though she has anxiety about doctors. My wife was not allowed to go back to the chair with my daughter to help comfort her. She sat through the exam but got scared when they tried to take X-rays of her teeth, and wouldn't let them do it. She wasn't trying to be mean or get attention, she's just an anxious 5 year old. As a pediatric dentist, I'd hope Dr. Callen would be more nurturing and gentle to encourage a positive association with medical situation. But, to "teach her a lesson" I guess, Dr. Callen decided to take our parenting into her own hands and very deliberately remove the toy from the bag they give to all kids at the end of the appointment. My children (ages 8 and 3) have been seeing Dr. Callen for six years. And in that six years, we have had NO tears or anxiety about the dentist! Dr. Callen and her staff are simply amazing!

The staff is always super friendly and professional. They celebrated my son when they learned he was no longer sucking thumb. Dr. Callen is super sweet and knowledgeable. You never have to wait too long and live love the child friendly/modern decor.

My two year old fell at the park and hit a tooth. We called and the office fit us in the same day. The staff was very friendly and helpful on the phone and at the office. Dr. Callen explained everything very well and my son was comfortable the whole time. He got to pick out a “prize” and he was (and still is) very excited about it.

Look no further, you have found an excellent place for taking your kids to the dentist. This the first time we take our kids to the dentist and we couldn't be happier about the experience and how well my kids accepted their first visit to the dentist. The entire staff is very engaged making sure your kids feel happy to be there and the approach is very personal and open with them. From explaining to the kids everything to be performed during the dental cleaning to reassuring them at every moment and making it fun for them. Dr Callen’s office is consistently exceptional. The first time my daughter went there, she was so obstinacy, Dr Callen sat Indian style on the floor next to her to calm her down and earn her trust. Yesterday, we had to get a filling for my daughter’s first time (age 6). The dentist and hygienist were so friendly, calm, entertaining, and gentle that she didn’t flinch once. I mean who wouldn’t with the colorful waiting room stocked with toys, movies and books. The office is bright and whimsical and has fun stations for the kids to play at while they wait. My daughter had her “class bear” with her at her appointment, and all I hoped for was to snap a few fun pictures of her with the bear at the dentist so she could tell her classmates about that. I couldn't be happier to have Marie Callen and her team taking care of my children's dentistry needs! It was by chance Callen did our oldest sons dental surgery at Children's and we were so satisfied we chose a dental insurance she would accept and followed her to her practice to take care of them both from there on out. Her team is always so kind, greeting you with smiles and patience in any situation. They do an exceptional job in explaining to children of very young ages, exactly what they will be doing during their visit and with what tools they will be doing it with. Do not take your children here. This woman is nasty and unprofessional I went several months without posting a review and I just met someone else who had an equally awful experience w her. It made me wish I had posted the truth to the public. She is a horrible pediatric dentist. Go elsewhere. Your children deserve better.

I struggled with whether or not to post this, but I do feel that if my kids dentist did this then I would want to know.. We took Ronan to Dr. Marie Callen yesterday for fillings. Because he was a preemie his enamel wasn't fully formed making him super susceptible to cavities even though we work hard to prevent it. He also had varnish painted on to his teeth at the age of two to help. They were on the back of his teeth and a small one on the front of a canine. She told us that she would be using Silver Diamine Flouride to fill them. She warned us that there would be discoloration there but it would be tiny dots and nothing more. We weren't given a piece of paper or anything but we trusted her. I googled this to see what it may look like and it was indeed just dots so yesterday we went through with it. We noticed staining on Ronan's front teeth after but thought (again given nothing really) that it would go away as we went through our day and we were told not to brush his teeth. So, I didn't and the staining got worse. After the appointment. On the advice of another dentist we brushed his teeth but it's not much better. When we called her back we were told to bring him back and we refused. She yelled at Keith on the phone and then refused to take responsibility and told us we could "get a refund" and "write a bad review". My two-year old just had his first dental appointment ever and had a great time at Marie Callen Dentistry for Kids! The welcoming wait area with fun toys and games was inviting and the excitement of the wonderful staff made his first visit a positive one. I loved how he was shown each tool that was going to be used and allowed to touch and experience it first before it goes into his mouth. He was excited to talk about his visit when we were all done. My family had an appointment as new patients with Dr. Callen scheduled for this upcoming November. My daughter needed to be seen before then so I called the office to see if we could be put on some sort of cancellation list to be seen sooner, if possible. The staff listened to my concerns and got us in that very same day. My daughter ended up needing an extraction and she was very anxious and visibly upset to go through treatment. We are not the easiest patients, with my son having serious anxiety issues coupled with a bad experience from a family dental office years ago, we are high maintenance to say the least. Dr. Callen and her staff not only tolerate us, they welcome my son with open arms and make it their mission to build a strong, trust based relationship with him in order to rewrite his feelings of visiting the dentist. She and her staff explain each step to him before they do it and have given him a signal to use if he is feeling uneasy and needs a break. Dr. Callen and team are very through and take the time to make sure everyone is at ease and knows what to expect. As a first time patient, who needed a cavity filled for the first time, my daughter was fairly nervous. But as soon as we walked in the door she was treated AMAZING... and their work was beyond great! Every single person in their office work together to create an atmosphere that automatically makes you feel comfortable and able to leave with a smile on your face! (Even if it is numb ????) Dr. Callen, the staff, and the office are all fantastic; and would highly recommend this practice. My 2 year old daughter was not an easy patient, and still was happy with her first visit to the dentist. Excellent all round experience for our 5 year old little girl! Everyone in office is professional and made her feel comfortable.
