Due to incredibly poor post op treatment, poor communication, and lousy advice, I contracted osteomyelitis in my big toe. After a year of trying to get my wound to close from a simple bunionectomy, I finally wised up and switched to a podiatrist who took the time and effort to fix the problem. On my last visit with McFarland I saw her and the new podiatrist on the same day. McFarland wanted to schedule another surgery a couple weeks out (after many failed surgeries to help the wound close and about a year of not walking on my right leg). The new podiatrist had me hospitalized that night so he could operate the next day. That sense of urgency made me aware of how poorly McFarland treated me. This doctor was able get me walking and the wound closed within a couple months. The damage was already done though. I had a few surgeries sporadically over the next few years because of pain and the stress put onto my second toe due to McFarland's negligence on the big one. Eventually we had tried so many times that, roughly 9 years later, the toe had to be amputated. I've probably been in an OR more times than I've gone to Six Flags. She was also consistently late to appointments, and always rushed to get out of them to catch up. Based on my experience, don't go to this doctor. If you already have, find a competent one quickly.

Dr. McFarland is great but you cannot get anyone to talk with you by phone. I have waited as long as 15 minutes from someone to get back to me after being put on hold and I end up handing up. I have called 5 times and no one ever got back to me. I am changing my DPM because of this. Poor office service. VB

This is that Dr. you can ask any questions to and she will respond with a clear and educated answer. Each time spent with her is focused on you and your specific problem. Her demeanor is that as you were speaking with your sister. She has a warmth in her personality yet remains exceptionally professional. It resonates that she enjoys helping her patients and providing her expertise. Thank you for helping me so I will be able to have a better quality of life in my senior years!

Always great. I have been a patient for many years. Sometimes there is a long wait. Usually due to a surgery. Whenever I am with the doctor I feel extremely comfortable with her advise. She is always looking for the best recommendations and very sincere. Once you ask a question be prepared to get her complete knowledge of the medication, illness, or a situation you are experiencing. I am a caretaker for my brother and I just recently referred him to her. He really liked her.

My first couple of visits were ok, although there was a bit of a wait. The most recent time, though, I left after waiting in the waiting room for nearly an hour after my appointment time without seeing the doctor because the staff wouldn't tell me anything and no other patients were in or out during that time.

She probably is a very good doctor, but her appointment management is terrible. A 2hr wait caused my husband and I to leave without seeing her.

The people up front are horrible!!! Absolutely the worst and unprofessional. The doctor was an hour and twenty minutes late, which is fine I guess, but I checked in and paid my copay and asked the one lady at the front desk if it was okay to step out since it was going to be two hours (there were two other people in front of me). The lady acknowledged it and said I should be okay. I get a notification on my phone from MyChart that my appointment was canceled. I head back in and find out that the nurse came out to look for me to take me back (again, I would still be waiting a considerable length of time), but the people up front said that they didn't know where I was or that I had checked in. They listed me as a no-show even though I had checked in and paid my copay. What?! I asked why they didn't call my cell phone and they told me that they weren't going to search all over the building for me. A simple phone call and I would have came right back in. This is absolutely the worst service I've ever had a doctor's office. The doctor could be fantastic, but I won't be dealing with that staff ever again so I won't know. Seriously unprofessional and downright rude about THEIR mistake. I'm sorry, I thought checking in was logged, especially since I had paid the copay and everything and was just waiting. What a lazy bunch of people with no consideration for the patients. I took off of work for this appointment and they didn't care. I thought stepping out of the office to get some fresh air would have been fine, especially since I ASKED the lady at the front if that would be alright. What a mess and how infuriating. It was my mom, not me.....she’s absolutely crippled my mother and had absolutely no idea what she was doing. Very disheartening & disappointing. Incredibly unfortunate. My mom’s foot now looks like something from Frankenstein & is unbelievably painful literally 24/7/365. I’m a nurse who dressed my mother’s foot every single day, yet she couldn’t ever order the correct creams or meds, wouldn’t react to pictures I sent & calls I made & my mom ended up with gangrene.

Whenever I visit I feel like I'm a pain in the butt. I really hate to asked any questions. I had an appointment today my right foot have tendinitis so I told her I would like to start wearing a boot so she said I have to wear it for 3 weeks but try not to be on it much so I ask the nurse what about me working because I drive a Metro Bus with air breaks she said she can drive she seating but I'm pressing down on paddle and breaks which transit breaks are not like car breaks and I'm driving for 8 hours which hurt after hours of driving. It's like she doesn't care any care

I can't imagine a more professional, informative and comforting doctor than Maria McFarland. She should be teaching courses in bedside manners and professional comportment to other doctors. Many kudos along with the five stars.

VERY COMPETENT AND KNOWLEDGEABLE PHYSICIAN!! HAD ME ORDER THE CREAM I NEEDED TO REPAIR MY FEET FROM THE MANUFACTURER NOT THE DISTRIBUTOR?! ?? EXCELLENT REFERRAL, INSTEAD OF BEING 100s OF DOLLARS IT WAS LESS THAN 50!! I APPRECIATED THIS!! MY FEET IN A MATTER OF A FEW VISITS WERE RETURNED TO THEIR CORRECT COLOUR... I RECOMMEND HER TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS!! ??

EXCELLENT PODIATRIST!! MY FOOT WAS BLACK FROM NECROSIS... ABOUT 1 MONTH MY FEET WERE BACK TO CORRECT COLOUR. I AM THANKFUL NOT TO HAVE PROBLEMS NOW!! ????????????‍♀️

The nurses here care for their patients genuinely and are so kind. 5 stars is well deserved. Most pleasant experience ive ever had at a hospital

Dr McFarland diagnosed a broken plantar plate. She gave me instructions on what to do for this problem. It has made an amazing difference in my life. I figure it has been broken for a very long time and has caused many problems. The doctor that looks after my knees, recognized the issue originated with my foot and recommended Dr McFarland. Dr McFarland did a very thorough examination and immediately saw the problem. She is a smart doctor with a great personality. I recommend her for any and all foot problems. Dr. McFarland's assistant is the worst I have ever encountered. She has a very bad attitude. Very Nasty.

During my visit to Dr McFarland, she was very happy thorough, compassionate, helpful and welcoming. She communicated with me, she was specific about our next plan towards better health,by giving me information, guidelines and making sure that I understood everything.

Poor. MA touched sterile instruments with her bare hands. I insisted that she pen another sterile pkg using gloves. After procedure Dr McFarland dressed both feet and gave discharge instructions. Then I laid on the table for 35 min waiting for help, No one came. So I got up & put my socks on & stood up & had to walk on a bloody chuck left on the floor from procedure to get out of room. As I hobbled down hallway, I saw the MA who was on the phone and asked her where to exit and she just pointed.

I've had consultations and 2 surgeries with Dr. McFarland, her team, and SSM DePaul outpatient surgery center. Every single incident of my interactions has been an excellent experience. Dr. McFarland communicates clearly, listens well, demonstrates excellent knowledge and judgment and is very thorough.
